Sportsfan,

Rape is a JC transfer. There are so many guys down in the pen that have not seen much mound time it is amazing. Most of these kids would be starters on most teams in the country. I watched a freshmen throw a pen at the end of the game to get some work in and he was better than every kid I saw from TLU in the game, seriously good looking kid. I would say that the bull pen pitchers are better than the starters just watching them...... so I just went and checked the stats.

I took a quick look and the starters have an ERA of ~2.6 and the pen has an ERA of ~1.8, which is typically reversed.  Good news is that there are even more kids you have not seen that could be available come Regionals, the bad news is that there are a couple of shaky guys getting the ball to start the game. ( shaky is a relative term on this team)

Middle of the order is back in gear and three games with no errors and some very good defensive plays so I would characterize the Hendrix trip as an anomaly.

That TLU team is a seriously good looking team, just does not have the pitching.

SCAC baseball championships now held at the regular season champ's home field, so in San Antonio May 2-4.

TU has gotten extended innings from their pen quite a few times this season, again this weekend with the lengthy stints from Rape and yesterday from Lauck.    Having the starters out so early is a bit of a concern.

So looking at the standings it looks like the following are should be in the tournament.

Trinity
TLU
Centenary

It looks like the final spot in the conf championship will be determined next weekend with Dallas @ SW'n. (Dallas is currently down 7-1 vs Schreiner)  Both should be coming in to the game at 7-8 so best of 3 takes the final spot.

Seeding won't be determined until all of the games are played, although it will likely be:

Trinity (given)
TLU  (if they sweep Schreiner)
Centenary (even if they drop 3 to Trinity, as long as SW or Dallas does not sweep...not sure about tie breaker)
SW or Dallas.

Love it that SW is back in the hunt! Great to see the program headed in the right direction.

don't see how TU doesn't win the SCAC.   They have dominant starting pitching led by Speer/Gray/Walker with a great pen lead by Turner/Flores/Rape/Tindall...it appears that the Hendrix weekend helped this team get things in order...time will tell.

TLU is done as far as a at large bid, loosing to Schreiner yesterday.  ::)

They will have to win the SCAC for any chance to go to Mc Minville.

UofD and SWern series should be a fun one this weekend for the final spot in the SCAC tournament. Both teams are pretty evenly matched IMO.

Trinity wins in 12, 4-2. Don't know details but an ejection and a bench clearing. Sounds like fun. Too darn bad that Centenary is in the dark ages without a video feed.

Southwestern beat UofD 3-2 in what looked like a great game. They need 1 win to get into SCAC tournament.

TU didn't waste any time today, scoring 4 runs in the first on their way to winning 12-3 in 7.

Southwestern is in the SCAC championships with an 11-3 win over UD.   Good to see them come back after last year's disaster.   12-26 doesn't sound like much but it is a whole lot better than 3-38.

Trinity took 2 of 3 @ Centenary. Lost last game 4-5. SCAC tournament set, TU vs SWern at 1:00PM May 2 with TLU vs Centenary. the second game.  Both Centenary and SWern have improved a lot during the season so TU and TLU better bring their A games.

TU should win the tournament, BUT it is college baseball so you never know. I am concerned about Trinity's starting pitching that has been less than stellar the past few outings, I have to wonder why more bullpen arms have not been used more. Last game starter gave up 10 hits in 5 innings. That is not going to get it done in a Regional.

I took a look at conference only stats and the starters have an ERA ~2.4 and if you take the top 9 arms they have an ERA of ~1.2. TU has plenty of arms but not sure why the pen is not being used more?

No baseball games for 11 days for SCAC teams. Not a recipe for keeping everything sharp and ready for playoff baseball. Maybe why Trinity has not advanced to the DIII NCAA Championship tournament,

This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

the tourney is actually a week later than normal, meaning it will be a week closer to the regional. If trinity wins the scac, maybe the shorter layoff will help come regional time.

SCAC_BaseballFan

how will Trinity look to stack up their pitching for the SCAC tournament? I would think Walker, Gray, Speer, but who knows what Scannell will do?
