This reminds me of the West Regional from 2012 where Linfield was left out and Trinity (TX) was the favorite coming into it. Interesting that Whitworth was the surprise team to win that year with a bunch of freshman. Now they are back as Seniors hoping to get back to the World Series.

concordia was the top seed that year, so not sure how Trinity was the favorite

Trinity did beat CTX in the regular season that year...but it was more of pointing out that many people that year would have expected Trinity to get by Whitworth.

it will be interested to see how everyone gets seeded...since the three teams in were not part of the last regional rankings.

I agree with you with that one, but that year Trinity was very thin on pitching, it basically was Lucero and Klimesh who threw 180 innings between them, and Bentz the pen/closer. They had other guys but they were very thin compared to now. Those innings are now spread out on 5 starters compared to back then. Klimesh came back on short rest. Anyway Whitworth got hot and that carried them through.

I think it depends on who wins the ASC title but I'll give it a whirl. *This could change in a big way if someone other than UTT or CTX wins the ASC

1. UTT or CTX
2. PLU
3. UTT or CTX
4. Whitworth
5. Trinity
6. La Verne

Trinity is finally playing the way they are capable of, and it comes at the right time.  They are pitching and fielding like a championship team and both were outstanding during the conf tournament. They are making routine plays like they should, and both the OF and Infield made some spectacular plays over the weekend that were game changing. The offense is also starting to hit, and while they still left too many baserunners stranded, they are having much better AB's and are scoring runs against top flight pitchers.

When they lost their second game to Centenary I actually thought it would be good for the team long term (as long as they made it through.....) as it would force them to play more games that required complete focus and execution offensively and defensively as well as getting all of their pitchers work in stressful conditions. Little did I know that this had not been done in 20 years! They came from behind in 4 of the 5 games over the weekend and there is nothing better in building confidence when you play games where it is "win or go home" and this really gets amplified when you are down late in a game This is really going to help them play with confidence come Regionals.

They have 5 legitimate starters with Grey, Tindall, Rape, Walker and Speer - all of them capable of throwing complete games, plus two guys at the back end of the rotation that can shut down a team. Grey has stepped up and is a legitimate ace that can go toe to toe with any pitcher they will face in game 1 of the Regionals. Turner and Griffith pitched 9 innings over the weekend and did not give up a hit.  Turner closed out the first game with the tying run on and Griffith came in the second game with runners on second and third with no outs and got two K's and a pop up to get out of the inning. They ended up losing that game, but it had nothing to do with the pitching. Either can close, both have big game experience and are fearless, and both can stretch out to 6 innings if they have to.

They have to tighten up a couple of areas - one is base running and I am sure the pitchers will be doing a lot of PFP the next 10 days.
I don't think you can put labels on teams as "favorites" in Regionals as all teams there can beat any team on any day, but the 2015 Tigers will be a formable opponent in Tyler.

So what will Trinity do between now and when regional's start? Practice, inter-squad games is my guess. They have already played 45 games so even if they could find someone willing to play they don't have any additional games.

Ha ha, there was a conversation about this same topic a few years ago on this board, so I'll give the same suggestion I did back then....Toga - Toga - Toga - Toga!!!!

Pssht.. they do that between now and the regionals and continue it during the regionals!! I remember the 2012 Regional in McMinnville and hearing from friends about Linfield girls bringing Trinity players they met at bars back to their places at night after games. Baseball all day and party all night.  8-)

BLD, they have finals this week so practice will be in between tests etc. They only have a week off now, it used to be they were off for 2-1/2 weeks or more and had to hang around campus when everyone else was gone and play inter squads, but now the schedule is much tighter so they should not lose the edge like they had in the past.   As soon as finals are over they will head to Tyler to practice....and maybe chase UTT girls, as they say every thing is better in Texas.  :o

I remember the year we won the Regional in Southwestern (2002) it seemed we had a month off until things started in Fox Cities/Appleton.

Congratulations, Trinity, on an incredible finish to a record-setting season.   In your first-ever appearance in the championships you were thisclose to making it all the way to the final round.  300+ teams would love to be were you are today.  I couldn't be prouder!

Congrats to Trinity for an outstanding year.  Props to the senior class of pitchers led by Speer and Tindall.  The junior class. Will get them back next year
