Congrats to Oglethorpe on their first win of the year. It took a while but the Petrels finally got one. I was at the games on Staurday and it is true that the weather was awful. The Petrels did play well however and, despite their record, I'm really impressed with the team. They've got some good young talent and if Oglethorpe can overcome its history of retention problems the Petrels could develop into a solid program. Chris Thompson is a good first baseman with a solid approach at the plate and freshman Brandon Steen's ability to get himself around the bases was impressive. The pitching looked solid and it was definately good to see some ERAs below six when I looked at the stats. If the Petrels keep up the positive work ethic that could cause some problems by the time conference play rolls around.

Millsaps bounced back with a 6-2 victory over Hendrix Sunday afternoon.  The weather was certainly non-baseball weather and each team only managed 5 hits.  I wasn't at the game so all I know is what I saw on the SCAC baseball page (box score and brief Hendrix story).

Speaking of Hendrix, it looks like they are really working hard to upgrade their athletics.  The basketball team and baseball team are young but seem to have a lot of potential and they are planning some major upgrades to their facilities that should help in building up their programs:  http://www.hendrix.edu/athletics/athletics.aspx?id=1933

I think you meant doubleheader... not double hitter.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

Millsaps took a 3-1 win over local NAIA rival Belhaven College.  The loss dropped Belhaven to 8-2 on the season and improved Millsaps to 4-2.  I didn't see the game so I'll just post the links to the box score and the story and you can see all that I know about the game:

Yo, Frank... The Millsaps boys are coming to SAT this weekend to face up with the TU Tigers.

What's your prediction?

I'm saying TU 2 out of 3.

Page will get ejected at least once, maybe twice and GW will leave with a <.300 weekend.....

Your predictions????

consultant

History,
I'll bite on the Millsaps vs. Trinity series......
Before my predictions, though, I will add my two cents about the Millsaps vs. Belhaven game from Wednesday night.....was probably my only chance to see Millsaps play this year....living on the west coast now prohibits my viewing of Millsaps' athletics.
Belhaven is a very good NAIA team who beat #1 ranked Delta State of the D II ranks earlier this year.  Good pitching ruled the evening for both teams.....Millsaps took advantage of minimal opportunities to win.  Millsaps pitched by committee with five or six different pitchers getting hill time.

As for this weekend.....
I say Millsaps takes two of three unless Millsaps wins both Saturday games, in which case Millsaps will win all three.  Millsaps' John Fox, if he can get out of the first inning should be dominant for the 7 inning game on Saturday.  John hit 94 mph on the radar gun repeatedly last night.  In the second game, Millsaps' Todd Kindler should keep Trinity hitters off balance if he can keep the ball low in the strike zone....if he elevates the baseball then Trinity might have a leg up in the nightcap.  Tal Hendrix will start the third game for Millsaps.  He looked really good against Belhaven last night.  He'll be good for about five frames, then the bullpen will be a factor late on Sunday afternoon.

Wetzel will hit over .300 for the weekend......with 2 homeruns.  But watch for left fielder Jaso Hadley and DH Scott King to have a good weekend, too.

As for Coach Page, who loves the umpires in San Antonio......he will most definitely be tossed at least once.  We had a nice talk about patience last night after the game.  He says he's been working on it for his trips to Texas this year.

I appeal to TrinitySID to let us know when and for what reason Page got the ole heave-ho.

I didn't see the livestat link the first time I looked on the Trinity site but they are up and running now.  Millsaps won the first game 9-3, had a 2-0 lead after the first in the nightcap.  Here's the link:

Millsaps finished up with 2 wins in today's doubleheader.  I think the second game was 10-4 or 9-4.  Kindler got the win with several innings of scoreless relief from freshman Tait Hendrix.

Consultant mentioned how well John Fox has been throwing this season.  In the 7 inning first game Fox went 6 2/3 innings with a no-hitter--gave up a single--left with runners on 1st and 2nd (a walked batter earlier in the inning) and Trinity got a 3-run homer off of the Millsaps reliever.

Consultant and Frank....  I yield to your wisdom!  It was clear today that Page is stacked, and Scannel is flat.  The Majors were ON... great pitching, timely hitting, great fundamentals.... if it weren't for two bad pitches (golpher-balls), they would have shut out TU twice.

Tu needs to sharpen up the pitching,,, get fundamental on O and D,,, and find some consistent hitting....  Tomorrow Bignal tries to salvage 1 out of 3...

Stay tuned...  Anyway, great job by the Majors today in SAT!

Trinity 4 -- Millsaps 2   Final

Trinity's four runs off four hits on Sunday afternoon were enough to defeat visiting Millsaps 4-2 as the Tigers salvaged the final game of a three-game series with the Majors.  Millsaps helped Trinity's cause by stranding 12 base runners during their 10 hit effort and by committing four errors.  Drew Bignall pitched 5 and 2/3 innings for Trinity and gave up two runs off seven hits to pick up the win.  Millsaps' starter Tal Hendrix lasted just 3 and 2/3 innings and gave up three runs off of two hits in enduring the loss.  With the victory, Trinity improves to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the SCAC.  Millsaps falls to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in SCAC play.

Just for the sake of curiosities on this board, Coach Page was very well-behaved this trip (as well as his last, I might add), and didn't even come close to getting run.

I was impressed with Millsaps hitters this weekend, by the way.  More so on Saturday than today, but overall, it seemed like they hit the ball solid in most of their ABs.
