I was just about to post about the weather delay at Sewanee when the Trinity webcast started up at about 10:20.  They say it has been raining off and on, start is now at 10:30.  It is very windy and very cold.

In the livestats it show that Hopkins will be pitching for Trinity and Fox for Millsaps.

In a WILD last few innings, Millsaps defeated Trinity 18-10 in game one today.  Game two will start within the hour....or so everyone hopes. It is raining hard in Sewanee with the tarp on the field.

consultant

It seems that if rain washes out a game two that co-champions will be declared......interesting what effect this will have on the automatic bid.

Millsaps has won four out of 7 from trinity on the year, but trinity finished with a one game lead in the conference standings.  Not sure what the tie breaker is.....

The trinity broadcast is staying on the air with updates....

Game two will try to get under way at 2:50......if not then...3:30.....if not then co-champions.....at least that is the news right now.

consultant

The rain will not go away in Sewanee.  Looks like no game two......official decision on what this all means is forthcoming.

consultant

Okay....no official word yet..... but from what I have just learned it looks like co-champions will be declared.  Trinity will take the automatic bid by virtue of winning the west with a 16-4 record.....Millsaps had a 15-5 record.

Not ideal, but the best call I think....can't argue with conference rankings....every game counts and all teams know it.

For Millsaps at least, kids have finals starting in 18 hours.....

The big question is WILL MILLSAPS GET AN AT LARGE BID?

consultant

It's official now.....

Millsaps and Trinity will be declared co-champions.
Trinity will receive automatic bid.

Millsaps will now play the waiting game for a couple of weeks.  There will be much posting about this in the coming days.

Trinity finishes the regular season and SCAC tournament with a 33-11 record overall and a 16-4 mark in the SCAC.  Millsaps finishes with a 34-11 overall record by virtue of playing and winning an extra game in the tournament and a 15-5 mark in the SCAC.

Let's now hope that Trinity and Millsaps can both win their Regional Championships (West and South respectively) and maybe get the chance to actually play this off "on the field" at the D3 Tournament in Appleton, WI?

Could it get any better than that?       :)

I get a South Region record of 30-7 for Millsaps.  (Corrections appreciated-- ETBU does not count.  Is it officially more than 200 miles from Jackon to Pineville LA for Louisiana College?)

I really think that they get a Pool C bid.

When the Regional Rankings come out this week, we can start to guess which schools get a Pool C bid.

The first thing to look at will be those team with a 30-7 record (.811) and might lose their conference's Pool A bid.

Ralph,
It's under a 200 mile trip from Jackson, MS to Pineville, LA but just barely.

Consultant, by 2004 Microsoft Streets and Trips less than 200 miles from Jackson to Pineville?

Then Millsaps is 31-7 (.816).  I think that they are in as a Pool C bid.

If 31-7 does not get them in, the tournament needs to revise its criteria. I say they are a lock.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

Hard to believe that Millsaps won't get a bid.

In other news, I think that Depauw's performance this weekend was good enough to win the SCAC President's Trophy  ... the first time since the '00-'01 season and only the second time in 13 years for someone besides TU to win the all-sports championship.

Baseball:  TU +15 (if co-champ points awarded)
Softball:  TU +10
Golf (M):  DPU +50
Golf (W): DPU +25
Tennis (M):  TU +10
Tennis (W):  TBD but likely net 0 (see below)
T&F (M):  DPU +10
T&F (W):  TU +10

Net DPU +40

Still one sport to be decided ... women's tennis, where "the women's tennis match was called with DePauw leading 3-1, due to travel conflicts for Trinity.  The SCAC office declared the two teams co-champions and the women's tennis tournament committee will discuss the outcome on Monday."
