Maryville has been just off my top 25 from the beginning.  Their history makes them legit every year; they've proven themselves in the tournament so the odd schedule doesn't hurt them in my book.

However, this year, they just haven't had much of a schedule to put them over the top or into the poll.  They needed the Centre game, even if it was a loss, to correlate them with the rest of DIII.  Obviously some tragic scenario prevented that, but they are right there and will undoubtedly be a really crappy first round match-up for some unlucky conference final loser.

Smedingly,

As has been stated on here before, Maryville is riding a NCAA record 9 straight years with at least one NCAA tournament victory (they had tournament wins in 1999 and 2004 prior to the losses you listed above).  Not that it is at all relavent, but the 1999 win was against SCAC champion Rose-Hulman, who has since changed conferences.
As an ASC fan, I am amused by the Maryville fans.  They are loyal and support their team well, but they are also only 2-5 versus the ASC.  However, it makes for a good rivalry when it happens, which is more frequently than the ASC faces the SCAC in the post-season.  (The ASC is 3-1 all-time in tournament play vs. the SCAC.)

Ralph:  I am glad we provide you with amusement in a world where that is often scarce.  We, on the other hand, are not amused by playing and losing to Mississippi College at their dome every year.  Maybe we'll get a shot at them or someone else (MHB again?) this year in Tennessee.

Smedindy:  My bad about the SCAC.  I got confused because Maryville regularly beats them in regular season matchups.

Well that is true, I count a 5 game winning streak and 7 of 9.

About 6 of those against Oglethorpe and 2 vs Sewanee.  Not exactly the cream of the SCAC crop, but it is still 5 in a row and 7 of 9.

I am not amused by losing to MissCollege in the Golden Dome either.  The last time that McMurry beat MissColl in the Golden Dome was in the conference tourney in 2001.  :-\

The Choctaws are hard to beat anytime, but especially in Clinton!  MissColl is down a bit this year.

I think that UMHB wins this year.  They have clinched the host role for the ASC tourney, and I think that they will win the ASC bid.  That being the case, the only team that might get bussed into Belton would be Millsaps as an "A" or a "C" or Trinity TX as the SCAC Pool A bid.

I think that Murvil goes to Centre.  Good luck!

sac:  Maryville beat Centre once in 2005 and 2006.... Maybe we can do that again this year....

Sorry about the mixup in Maryville's that one time. I was getting stuff done to rush to a plane...

I think the Colonels would welcome the challenge if it should happen regardless of venue.

Rankings will undergo another reshuffle this week as 7 top 25 teams have already lost. Numbers 2,5,6,8,16,18,and 21, have gone down. Five more games on tap for Sunday, so that list may get expanded.

Just waiting for the Guilford game to finish and I'll submit.

There was a lot of movement on my list, but nothing too drastic.  My bottom two teams came off completely and one mid-level squad dropped to #25.

Plattsburgh, Centre, Wooster, and Stevens Point made the most pronounced advancements.

Mississippi College actually played at Maryville in two of their last four meetings. The Choctaws lost 70-58 in Tennessee in 2003. The Choctaws won 68-62 at Maryville in 2005 before winning the last two meetings in the "Golden Dome" 69-51 and 76-56. But the home team obviously has an advantage since both programs have great home records. Mississippi College has won 56 of their last 58 at home and I'm sure Maryville has a very impressive home record as well.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the two match up again this year, though the Choctaws will probably have to win the ASC tournament to get in. I doubt the committee would take a 21-6 MC team as an at-large should MC win out and lose in the ASC Championship game, but they did take a five loss UMHB team last year. You never know.
