I'll get my poll in later tonight or early in the morning since I am driving home from the Centre game at Sewanee. Centre blasted Sewanee 82-50 for those of you who weren't sure where to place them.

Mine is in as well. I also have those same 7 teams as you do Hoops Fan but I couldn't place all of them in the top 13 spots. Only 3 are that high. Too many good teams that keep getting it done week after week that I have to respect. I know the UAA and WIAC are strong conferences but other teams with better records are also playing in fairly strong leagues. Anyway we'll find out in the next few weeks.

My Poll is in for this week.  I'm not quite as aggressive with the UAA and WIAC as some of you, but I'm not far behind.

Mr. Ypsi

Been stuck on seven ballots for several hours.  Later ballots will make a difference even near the top, as two teams are currently tied for 7th and several other spots (including 2nd and 9th) are separated by only one or two points.

It's easy to be aggressive with the WIAC.  They never get more than two teams into the tournament, so there's no way to prove the #3 team isn't as good as I say they are.  It's a cheap risk.

2006---Whitewater, Stout and LaCrosse all made the tournament.

I'll take my chances.  Which is much easier to say after two of the top 4 in the WIAC lost tonight.

This week's PP was 75% entered when my computer crashed!  (Static electricity? Who the hell knows?)  It's coming soon, I hope.

There was remarkable agreement (for the most part) this week - the top 19 got mentions 150 of 152 times (98.7%), while the top 23 got mentioned 178 of 184 times (96.7%).

While agreement near the top is not unusual, Rochester might have set a record for agreement so far down: 15th, with every vote between 13 and 17.  Except that record was quickly shattered by Virginia Wesleyan, who finished 18th with every ballot listing them between 17 and 19!

There were exceptions, however.  UMHB ranged all the way from 4 to 21, while UMass-Dartmouth was voted everywhere from 5 to off the ballot entirely.

All together, the mere seven teams who were ARV totalled only 34 points - 1.3% of the total points accumulated.

If a Puget Sound Logger falls in the forest does it make a sound?  I don't think the Men's Basketball Team would.  Amazingly they still have a chance to qualify for the NCAAs.

Ralph Turner

Now that McMurry Men are out of contention, I am rooting for the ASC.  Some of you have great expectations for UMHB.  If you have not seen my postings elsewhere about UMHB, they have sustained two injuries that reduce their options as they encounter tourney foes.

What made UMHB so strong early is that their top 10 players were a versatile assortment of strengths and talents.  They could answer various types of play.  UMHB season stats.

Ryan Burgart is 6'10" and a big traditional post.  He could counter the "big men" that you see in the midwest.  Michael Ivey is another 6'7" post, but the key to all of this was 6'7" Matt Dickey, a wing who could give inside support and had great athleticism when isolated on bigger players.  Dickey has a broken hand.

UMHB's front court is quick and very athletic.  The season stat sheet shows 11 different players have led in either game scoring or rebounding this season.  There were many interchangeable pieces in that front court.  I believe that the loss of Jason Wagner about 6 games ago was as devastating a single loss to UMHB as any one player.  Wagner was very athletic, with great quickness and  leaping ability.

Because of those two losses, UMHB is not as likely to advance in the tourney as one would expect from a #4 team.  If they do, then ASC basketball as a conference is even better than I think, and national parity is closer than we know.

I hope the ASC does well, but UMHB's chances have been hurt badly by those two injuries.

I guess I'm still the one holding MHB back.  Such a change from a year ago.

I'm also holding UMASS-D back, but not really, it's more like the rest of your are lost in dreamland somewhere.  I don't think they even get out of their conference tournament; they might not even make the final game.

Just for the hell of it, it should probably be pointed out that UMD beat UMBoston by about 1000 points last night... I'm not a UMD fan particularly and I know UMBoston had a horrible year but last night was an official waxing.

131 - 63

Seriously, if you know anything about the LEC just take a look at UMBoston's record and the scores of their games. How does a team that goes 2-24 manage to win 1 game vs. Maine Fort Kent and lose all other games all year except for against a conference leader in RIC? Pretty remarkably I suppose.
