Yeah Whitman usually hits their peak/stride right about the middle of July during summer ball.

Whitman, the name makes me wonder...

Are they a great literary school or more of a yodeling cowboy institution   :D

Or a school founded be transendentalists... ;D

LogShow

It was actually named after the Whitman missonary family in good ol' Walla Walla, Washington.

Oh, now, for some reason, I have the great SCTV skit "Indira" in my head. Why? Because it 'co-starred' Slim Whitman...

I've finally found out why this poster's poll is invaluable:

Things are looking mighty good atop this Ursinius bandwagon and I now have proof that I've been a believer from the beginning.

Ursinus made the Final Four, but Coast Guard took out their main threats - Trinity(maybe?), UMD and Rochester.  Ursinus never faced a ranked team other than #21 Va Wes until Salem - and promptly got destroyed by Amherst.

I have nothing against Ursinus (and will probably vote them about 10th), but I hope no one goes overboard that they are a top 4 team.

My poll is in.  There's a minute left in the final, but things seem to have worked themselves out.

It will probably appal Hoops Fan (it certainly did me ;D) that our top five are identical!  Beyond that, we agreed on #9, and some others were close, but there were enough radical disagreements to keep us each from hara kiri. ;)

So, two ballots tabulated - I hope to post the poll by Monday night.

Mine is in. Hope we get a good turnout for the final poll.

My poll will be the actual NCAA placing, with 5-8 based on where the teams that beat them placed, etc. since that's what counts now.

That's rewarding teams for the NCAA's bracketing.  ???

Hey, it is what it is. You want a better ranking, win games!  ;)

Actually, I don't really like any post-season polling. The issue has been decided, in my mind.

With due respect, your ranking system (and we're doing polling, not ranking) is illogical.  Even #2 vs #3 is an arbitrary product of the schedule if they didn't play each other in a semi - afterall (as this year) they both beat #4 and both lost to #1; the schedule, not court results, determined which was #2.

And to determine 5-8 and 9-16 just by WHO they lost to (without even bothering with who they beat, how close the games were, etc.) is to compound the arbitrary rewards of the schedule-makers and pretend that it is a ranking based on results.  Not to mention the teams unfortunate enough (due to geographical matchups) to face a final four team in the first or second round - even if they took them to OT (e.g., Augie vs. Wash U), a season of accomplishment is ignored due to the bracket-makers schedule.

Well, you can discard it then. I've always done that, even as a kid, just for my curiosity in the NCAA and the Indiana HS tourney where a team would 'place', as it were. It's just how I rank teams at the end of the season when they have a tourney to decide the champ. To me, right now, #2 through #405 is moot.

He does have a point here.  There have been years where, in my opinion, the team holding the trophy at the end of the year has not been the best team, yet I would be reamed if I chose to put someone other than WashU at the top of my ballot.

I don't think his way is a good was of ranking teams, but we have to consider it as valid a way as anything else.  We give the tournament a lot of credit in picking a champion, there is at least a case to be made extending it to the rest of the field.

This year is a poor example, since the champ actually endured perhaps the toughest possible set of games in the tournament, but in d3 its conceivable an above-average team could get an easy road to Salem and then get lucky twice (either playing out of their minds or the opponents having off nights).
