I have to wonder how the tournament will blow up the top 7, since only 1 of those teams will make it to Salem.

I think it might be the opposite.  There are much fewer chances for those top 7 to lose to a bad team.

I'm guessing that if no one in positions 8-11 wins the whole thing, the top seven may remain pretty well intact.

Good point. I think you're right. They will get re-shuffled a little depending on who beats who in those 2nd round matchups.

That could be, but what if Wheaton loses in round 2........still a top 5?

More than likely at least 2 or 3 of our fellow posters will vote 1-4 as the final four teams.  Most of these top 7 are still going to be within the top 10 I'd presume.

I hereby yield to the Elms doubters - SUNYIT??!!

Since Buena Vista was almost equally untested, I'm gonna have to think about that one (but please don't leave them out of the final vote JUST because they were not selected - every year the NCAA omits at least one top 25 team; it's tradition! :D)

Thank you. I was one of the Elms doubters. I know Gregory and Hoops Fan were also . 5 of us were doubting Amherst  as well this week, with good reason. Gwynedd-Mercy??

I think anyone can beat anyone given the right circumstance.

Gwynedd Mercy's been on my radar all year, they just didn't have any showcase wins for me to jump on them.  I don't think the Amherst lost was bad, in theory, but their poor play is going to be the culprit here.  Still, I don't think it was huge upset, at least not in my estimation.  (I actually called it on my bracket pick'em).

Mine's now in.

Lot's of South and Midwest region teams leaping up the poll at the expense of the NE and E regions.

Teams that fell from my ballot entirely: Elms, Amherst, Centre, and Whitworth

Teams that replaced them on my ballot: Wooster, St. Lawrence, Brandeis, and Franklin & Marshall.

Mr. Ypsi

Four ballots in and tallied so far.

The tourney blew a huge hole in our consensus.  The previous poll had 9 voters and only 32 teams named.  After four voters, we already have 35 teams named! :D

So with Elms quick exit from the tourney they drop out of the poll? They were #11 in last poll before tourney. They shot horrible from the floor in NCAA game and SUNYIT shot very well. I saw the second half of game and Elms missed shots. Simple as that. Don't think they should be bumped out of poll all together. Final poll should not reflect teams who got hot. Elms was 26-2 and did beat teams up. they did play weaker schedule but they did beat the teams by 24+. Same can be said for Centre.

I can see dropping Amherst because they were 25 but doesn't seem logical to take a 11 and 15 ranked team and toss them out.

I'll get a ballot in to you sometime this evening, Chuck.

Thanks to Mr Ypsi for providing a surrogate poll upon which we fans can pontificate.

Let me also add my thanks to Mr Y for doing this again this year.

While filling out my poll one thing really stood out, the first was just how much of a bracket of death the Wheaton Sectional really was.  It was quite a contrast to the "right side" of the bracket where 3 or 4 cinderellas's (ie not ranked) had great runs in the tournament (Bridgewater St., Farmingdale, DeSales even Franklin and Marshall).  The Wheaton Sectional was just too strong for a cinderella type to emerge.  Any of 7 teams could have come out of that sectional and I'd give just as strong a chance to come home with the big prize as anyone else.

I felt really good with my poll right up untill about #12. The last 13 or so spots was really difficult.  I had an awfull time finding a #25 that didn't finish with a bad loss in the tournament.  So much so I changed it after sending it to Mr Y.

Look forward to the results.

Maybe we should do a pre-season poll for 09-10  :P
