Oh, I certainly don't mean for my comment to be misinterpreted as a dig at Chapman. The Panthers can't be faulted for being the recipients of the St. Peter Principle by me or by anybody else. You can only play the teams that are on your schedule, and Chapman's difficulties in filling out its schedule are well-documented -- and, as you noted, Elmhurst would've seemed like a great scheduling coup as recently as a year ago.

Nevertheless, the Chapman schedule is what it is. You can't get extra credit for good intentions.

True, but that means it is a guess as to how good they are, not that they should automatically be assumed to NOT be very good.  Who did Indiana State beat in 1979?  Who did George Mason beat a few years ago?

Well, GM in 2005-06 beat six teams in the Top 40 of the Pomeroy rankings. Of course, 4 of the 6 were in the NCAA tourney, but the CAA wasn't just chopped liver that year. Besides NC-Wilmington and GM, they had two top 100 teams and a Northeastern team that was in the top third of hoops teams.

In 1978-79 New Mexico State was in the MVC and 22-10 overall. That ISU team also beat NIT runner up Purdue (the NCAA tourney was just 40 deep and the NIT just 24 - so 2nd in the NIT was a good team).

The MVC was also well respected then, with deep tourney runs for several teams a recent memory.

Eight ballots in, and a flat-out tie for first!  Numerous other spots also up for grabs.  Your ballot DOES make a difference, so get it in. ;)
