How do you get into the poll?

I wish you had asked this about 10 weeks ago!

The standards are mentioned at the beginning of every season, but, bottom line, I have no standards! :P  I seek as much diversity as I can get, and reserve the right to reject ballots that are clearly too 'homerish' (but have never so far rejected a ballot).  I seek voters who honestly follow ALL of d3, not just their team/conference/region.

Is there one of these for football? I'd like to get into that one.

The "fan polls" in football are regional in nature, but they work.  There was a North Region fan poll in 2011.

As for standards, I have always wondered about the "standard deviation" for Mr Ypsi.   :)

I believe Mr. Ypsi to be an above standard deviate.

The 96 Rowan team was a legitimate champion as they did play by the rules, just as the WI schools played by the rules when redshirting was allowed.  Fans of other programs may not have liked it but what these schools did was legal. The big difference maker for Rowan that year was the late Roscoe Harris (RIP) he was a monster, one of the best big men I have personally watched.  And one hell of a nice guy.

Quote from: Mr. Ypsi on March 20, 2012, 11:30:58 PMI have so far never felt a d3 champion was unworthy of also receiving the #1 vote, though I might have made an exception in 1996 on ethical rather than athletic grounds - all true d3 fans believe the title game that year should have been Hope vs. IWU, rather than the Prop 48 transfers for Rowan!)

Not true, Chuck. I don't consider what John Giannini did to be an ethical violation. He scrupulously obeyed the rules when he brought those Prop 48 players into the Rowan program. How can he be blamed for taking advantage of a perfectly-legal loophole that he didn't create?

The fault was with the NCAA for leaving open that loophole in the first place. not with Giannini and Rowan for using it. Frankly, I've always been surprised that more schools didn't take advantage of it. If they had, Rowan wouldn't have appeared to be such a glaring outlier.

Ok, I know all about what happened and that the rule was changed to prevent it from happening again, but can someone fill in the details for me?

Was it that with Prop 48 those guys sat out a year, so they had an extra year of eligibility and they used it in d3?

That is basically it, I believe under Prop 48 underachieving students got a year to get their grades up to par and then 3 years of eligibility at a D1 school.  They then could play another year at a lower division school or I believe in grad school.  Not to sure about the grad school though.

I'm at work, so I don't have my ballot on me, but it's a bit out of sorts, as befitting Captain Outlier.  I don't mind if Ypsi wants to post it for me.

6. Cabrini
7. Amherst
