Anybody else have a couple teams with 5 or 6 losses who you think might really be top 25 teams right now, but you just can't justify it with their overall records?

I thought the losses last week helped to separate some teams for me.  I also evaluated the ODAC more than last week.  Ultimately 2 teams dropped of my top 25 and were both replaced by ODAC teams.

Mr. Ypsi

Well, I 'confess' to being the one voter for 5-loss Witt, but they've won 9 straight since their horrid start, including AT Woo.  I NEARLY cast a vote for 9-6 Carthage, now 3-1 in the CCIW with wins over Augie and Elmhurst this past week, but I haven't quite gotten past a couple of their really, really bad losses (but I note they got 7 points in the 'real' poll - somebody has noticed them).

Any others you had in mind?

Good job Mr. Ypsi

I thought we came up with a fairly good list. Seemed to agree on the top 7 pretty much. I had 24 out of 25 omitting Guilford in favor of Oxy. I also nearly picked Carthage on the strength of those 2 big wins. Brockport State with 5 losses also had me thinking but I'll wait until after this weeks games. They made it to the great 8 last year and returned nearly the entire team. Considered E-town but they've played a pretty soft schedule to get that guady 13-1 record.

Sorry about the extra i in your name yeterday. Didn't have my glasses on.

Casting a skeptical eye at Carthage, they beat an-above average Trinity TX team, but lost a very ugly game to a very, very average Southwestern on the Trinity court on the second night.  They look like "6-losses" to me, because they haven't put it together for a Poll.  (If they win the CCIW with an 11-3 mark, then as Bob Quillman noted on Hoopsville, that has historical context.)

If we are going to give Carthage some love after a long road trip, then the entire ASC and SCAC desire love for their road trips!

A 187-mile 3hr 20 minute trip from Carthage (Kenosha WI) on the north to Illinois Wesleyan (Bloomington IL) on the south is just an average intra-division road trip for the ASC.  (Please check the SCAC message boards for the on-going discussions about road trips in the SCAC.)

I think that travel is finally entering the consciousness of our fans as a major factor in team strength of "polling".

I'm happy with mine.

I have 24 of 25 and I may add the team that I "left off" next week.

You conformist! I'm trying to make sure the MAN doesn't keep my teams down! Heh.  :D

Ypsi, the Wooster-Witt game from this weekend was played at Wittenberg.

Keep an eye on Witt- they have two tough road games at Ohio Wesleyan and at Wabash coming up in the next two weeks...and they actually do still have to go to Wooster, in February.

The NCAC is playing tighter at the top than it has in past years: Games among the top four (Woo, Witt, Wabash and OWU) have been tight and hard-fought- much closer to parity in the league than in past years I think.

Man, I got to get this 'dyslexia' checked!  Already this season I've had about 3 scores reversed, and now I'm doing it with locations. :-[

True about the NCAC.  Most years it has been the Big 10 of the 70s - the Big Two and the Little ..., but this year I've got 4 NCAC teams in the top 8 in sac's GL poll.

I'm not going to cry for a team losing after a long bus trip.  They've been doing it for years with 20 year old kids, they (the school) should know how to handle it by now.

If your approaching a game like you'll lose because you sat on a bus for a long time, then yes you'll probably lose and its good to know you have a ready made excuse.

Then Carthage is just another run-of-the-mill 6-loss team.   :D

Mr. Ypsi

Yeah, lots of 6-loss teams have back-to-back wins over top-15 teams, and are in first place in a top conference! ;)

But, so far they haven't overcome my misgivings about some of those losses, Southwestern and East-West being the two most grievous.

I toyed with the idea of Carthage as well, but couldn't do it, mostly based on what I saw from them in their games against Hope & Calvin.  But they are on the radar, the wins over Augie and Elmhurst earned them that.

There should be plenty of debate as to the new #1 this week.  With the turmoil in the Top 25 (that can only represent parity),  Rochester held the B*lt and lost it to Emory.  Brandeis lost at home!

Part of the "Myth" of being #1 is defending the ranking against all comers.   Let's see what happens today!

Mr. Ypsi

This week is gonna be "fun"!  At least last week I was pretty darn sure who was #1 and who the top 5 were; this week I don't even have that starting point! ;)
