Just for some context, two seasons ago my system led me to rank Mary-Hardin Baylor at the beginning of January, which led to similar (probably worse) vitriol sent in my direction.  MHB ended up ranked #17 in the d3hoops poll.

I'm not saying that either Carthage or McMurry will wind up ranked at the end of the season, but I do have a track record.  I am more than willing to admit that both of these teams could easily lose three in a row and fall right off the list, but at this point, in my estimation, they belong.  What they've done this far is deserving of a spot.  These rankings are in no way predictions of how we think the teams will finish, only what they've done so far.
Hoops fan, I had forgotten that you were working off a system for your rankings.

In the context of the Posters' Poll, please remind us often that your system is projecting your ballot.

As for Thursday's game in Belton, UMHB hosting McMurry, UMHB is 2nd in the ASC-West.  That is a tough venue for visitors, and there may be a component of "payback" involved.

In the 2007-08 season, #4 UMHB came to Abilene and lost to both, HSU and McMurry.

Cardinalpride,

I find that all of the posters really take it seriously and carefully. Hoops Fan is eccentric in his system. I would be too if I had time to compile my power rankings like I used to. There is an abject lack of 'homerism'.

The only 'homer' vote I cast is St. Thomas #1 from the start but that seems to have worked itself out nicely. Oh, and DeSales since they're helping out a client, but their 15-2 record is also another reason to cast a vote for them.

Greg, I doubt I'll have the opportunity to appoint you Senator.  Would ambassador to the SCIAC suffice? ;D

Given his affinity for slotting Carthage on his ballot, I think that HF would make a much more appropriate ambassador to the SCIAC. ;)

Carthage is #22 and McMurry is #33 in the Massey Ratings using MOV through games of 1/25. North Central is #23.

Yeah, this week is where I expect things to shake up considerably.  The ASC is tough on road teams, perhaps the toughest of any big conference in the country.  Probably every team below #15 on my list has the possibility of dropping out this week simply because we're looking at a whole bunch of schools with records that don't speak very loudly.

I was just in San Diego last week and, well, anything's better than Kansas City.

cardinalpride,

The 'high' votes for Carthage and McMurry are both from the same voter, who is 'eccentric' perhaps, but I otherwise value his input tremendously.  (And his admittedly overly high vote for Carthage last week DID immediately precede their take-down of previously undefeated Wheaton!)  So if you want to use 'nuts' as your excuse for not voting, he's only 12.5% not 25%! ;D

(Sorry HF - cheap joke, had to do it. :-[)

I make no pretense of a 'legitimate' poll in the same sense that d3hoops.com is.  We are all self-selected, not representative by conference or region (though I've tried! ;)); we just enjoy getting our two-cents out, then debating WHY we picked the way we did.

But while (as a retired statistics prof) I know all the limitations, I still think this poll is pretty cool (and not necessarily all that inaccurate)!  You're welcome to join us rather than take potshots.

Since its only 1 guy out of 8, I will reconsider!  I originally thought it was 2 or 3 out of 8!  ;D

Ok, so my top six teams won this week.  No problem there.

However, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 15, 16, 20,  and 21 all lost.

The problem is, even with the losses, neither 10 or 11 really deserves to jump up to seven.

Crazy week.

Mine is in.

Basically, a re-work in the bottom half.

The division is full of parity!  I have no problem dropping a team 5-7 slots, because the difference between those 7 teams is so small.  (Look how many "receiving votes" teams lost as well.)

On the top 25 board, I posted that Trinity bussed 236 miles from DPU to Centre on Saturday and played that night.  That is a real accomplishment.

In the ASC, UT-Dallas is very good.  The ASC-East is a slugfest this year. The match-up with McMurry and UMHB was typical UMHB-home court advantage.  The rematch occurs in Abilene on Thursday.

Just for the record, I submitted a poll for the first time this season. I was tempted to place Wash U in the #1 but left them where the real poll shows them - #2. No homerism on my part - I pulled Centre out of the top 25 - they didn't belong there anyway before the collapse against Trinity.

Thanks for joining.  I think that you are the first one from that part of the country, upper South and adjacent to the Great Lakes!

Mine's in. I threw a bone (pun intended) to one of the best stories in  D-3, I think. Going into this season, the seniors were 19-58 as a class, and now they're on top of the NCAC.

Yeah, you and I both slotted 'em in 25th - sic 'em, Terriers! ;)

Mr. Ypsi

We've already matched our season high of 8 ballots, so sac (hopefully) should put us to a new high.  Any newcomers, or returners from past years, want to help us to double-digits? :)

Several places are tied or within a point or two (including among the top 10), so YOUR ballot WILL make a difference (unlike New York Republicans or Utah Democrats :D).
