I'm going to take responsibility for at least one of those, although in looking at my ballot, I hope it's no more than one.  I think I did a pretty good job this year.

Your 23, 24, and 25 are looking pretty lonely still, after six ballots. ;)

Mr. Ypsi

We got off to a wonderful start - 7 ballots on Sunday!  Only up to 8 by now.  I said Tuesday at 6 (EST) was the deadline, so I'll stick with that, but I'm getting SO antsy to share what I've got! :D

Those were rough picks.  I actually had them at 27, 28, and 29, but a bunch of teams just above them had poor showings over the weekend.

I don't think they have to be on there, but I couldn't make a good case for anyone else to be ahead of them.

There's no saying that they are wrong, but after 8 ballots they are still lonely! :D

Even my 'lonely' #25 picked up a #24 from another voter.

There is a voter with a totally lonely #23 and #24 (though his #25 looks to be in the teens overall); you and he have the only 'orphans' so far.

On the other hand, you didn't have an 'orphan' at #8! ;D

Overall, I'd say you are all within the mainstream - and if there were NO outliers, where would new votes come from when someone lays an egg?! ;)

The other voter you are talking about is definitely is me.  I was not impressed by my #25 but voted them there to avoid further scrutiny, 2 losses to non-Top 25 caliber teams and no other really big wins to note was not too impressive in my analysis.  Their Massey is also really low, in the 70s if I remember correctly.

I've got Linfield sitting at #26; I'm sure that wouldn't have made things any better.

What kills me is that I'm the last person to include a team simply on name recognition and all three of those final teams are in that category (although not for that reason).

I really would have liked to replace them with a couple less known teams, but I'm not confident in the others just yet.  I need more games.

Ypsi,

Since the ballots are due Tuesday, should we adjust ballots to take into account Babson's win over Amherst?

You, sir, are a very perceptive voter!  Your #25 is being voted in the teens by 5 voters, #20 by one, and omitted entirely by (you guessed it) Hoops Fan!

While your 23 and 24 are barely on my radar, I'm not about to argue them as implausible.  (Same goes for HF's 23, 24, and 25.)  While the rules allow me to discount ballots, I don't go much beyond Caltech in the top 25, or 6 SLIAC teams in the top ten. :D  [This is NOT meant as a dare for voters to go silly on me! ;)]

hugenerd: just saw your post before hitting 'post' - NO, games by 1-10 only.  We'll probably ALL punish Amherst next week! ;)

That makes it F&M or Brandeis.  I'm guessing the latter.

Now I'm really starting to look forward to this poll.  It seems like teams have played fewer games or fewer games against common opponents this year.  I really would rather have not ranked anyone below 19 or 20.  It just seems like we're missing too much information at this point; much too much guess work.

It was actually the former, the latter didnt make my poll.  I was thinking of ranking NYU over F&M but put them just below in my 26-30 group.  NYU has some impressive wins recently, including over Lebanon Valley who beat F&M.  They also gave Wesleyan their worst loss of the season tonight (by 21 at Wesleyan) and Wesleyan has already played at Williams and Amherst.  I just couldnt justify putting Brandeis ahead of NYU.

I dropped Franklin & Marshall down to #20 and considered putting them lower for the same reasons as hugenerd. Plus I think the overall strength of the Centernnial Conference is down this year as compared to the past few years.

Mr. Yipsi I'm guessing my #24 gave your lonely #25 some company but I could be wrong. I dropped Amherst down to #18 this week and omitted Brandeis completely from my top 30. I'm interested to see what people did with Medialle. They are kind of like Mass-Dartmouth was in 2007-08. The Corsairs were undefeated and kept moving up the polls slowly from #23 in week 5 all the way up to #2 in week 10.  Sort of like the St. Peter Pinciple Greg referred to on the Top 25 board. They played a weak schedule in a weak league but the voters kept moving them up because they were the only undefeated team and as someone above them lost they floated up but it was with some reluctance as the voters were concerned over their strength of schedule. And rightly so as it turned out because they dropped 2 of their next 3 games, then lost in their tournament championship, and got beat in the only NCAA game they played by Coast Guard.

Medaille has a similar kind of schedule so I don't think their climb up the poll will be rapid and they may not stay undefeated as deep into the season as UMD did 2 years ago. UMD hit 20-0 before they dropped one.

Actually, your #24 is VERY popular (will almost certainly land solidly in the top 25); it wasn't until the 8th voter that anyone 'confirmed' me! ;)

You're right about Medaille - they are all over the place.

I'm also interested to see where Eastern Mennonite ends up in the posters poll. (And the real poll for that matter) I'm guessing I might have placed them higher than most, although it wouldn't surprise me if hugenerd had them up there as well, since he's touted them ever since they beat Virginia Wesleyan on the road back in November. I think they might knock off #1 this week. At least I hope they do because I'm picking them in the National Pick Em League. I've probably got Middlebury higher than most as well because I didn't penalize them but 1 spot for that loss to Colby-Sawyer, which I think was an abberation. (I prefer to beleive it was the hard-fought game my Plattsburgh St. Cardinals gave them 2 days before that loss that set them up for Colby Sawyer.) ;) ;D
