Mr. Ypsi

IF Guilford beats Randy Mac, I would certainly assume they'd take over #1 in the PP.  They were a nearly unanimous #2 this week.  Some voters might jump UWW past them, but the Quakers would probably prevail (after all, beating RMC would be nearly as impressive as beating UWSP, despite RMC's inexplicable home loss to Washington and Lee tonite).

I think Guilford's probably earned it.  I'm changing my process up and doing a full rating Sunday afternoon this week, so I'll know for sure then, but I'm not counting this loss tonight against Point much at all.

I think they can be the best team in the country and just not be able to get one over on Whitewater.

To clarify a ways back, when I say SOS - I don't mean the NCAA SOS, I mean Massey SOS (or something like Sagarin or Pomeroy).

When I wasn't out pounding the pavement and consulting, and being a Dad, I used to run some of my own power rankings. Not so much time now.

1, 9, and 10 on the top 25 drop a game tonight.  Anderson and Randy Mac lose on the road to decent teams while UWSP loses to a very good UWW team at SP's home court.
Still some huge games coming up for some top 25 teams.  Looks like the shake up has already started for next poll.

That's what keeps being a voter interesting! :P

As of today my ballot would read: 1. Guilford  2. UWW  3. TBD (UWSP?)

By Sunday, who the hell knows?! ;D

Actually, as noted elsewhere, RMC lost at home to W&L - the first time that's happened since 1959!

Whitewater wins 61-58.  Point retook the lead 58-57 with :27 but WW scores quickly on the next possession.  Matt Moses turned it over trying to make something happen with :09.9, but Point only had 3 fouls and had to foul 4 times.  Dustin Mitchell nailed 2 FT's with :03.4 and Moses' half court shot didn't fall.

So who's #1 now?

I think I'm just going to go ahead and award 5 teams #3 next week, and then resume with 6-25. Is that cool with everyone else?  ;)

Well I've had Guilford #2 on my poll for the past 2 weeks so now it's their turn to be in the catbird seat. Besides they were my pick in the survivors pool and though they didn't win it, I believe, they now have the longest winning streak of any team in the top 10. And,with the exception of Willie Paterson, the longest in all of D3. Of course that's all dependent on whether they beat Randy-Macon on Saturday afternoon.
Since their 71-68 loss at Virginia Wesleyan on Dec. 5, the Quakers have won 13 in a row.

I'll definitely go with the Quakers at #1 should they win Saturday. Really think it's a tossup between Stevens Point and Whitewater in my poll if Guilford goes down.  I'm not particularly bullish on Wash U at the moment.

So after this past week... Any of you considering new names near the bottom of the Top 25?

Not sure if I'll pull the trigger, but we'll see.

I would say Carthage is a good choice.  Colby may be another team to look at.

Also, after they beat WashU tomorrow, I think you could put Emory in there too.

UW-Stout 95, UWW 77 (AT Whitewater) - oopsy!

Well, I know #1.  Everything else is a mystery! ::)

I agree.  These weeks results are rather strange.

How do you justify putting Stevens Point ahead of Whitewater and then how do you not drop Whitewater after todays game?

Also in the top 12:

Middlebury loses by 15 at home.

RMC lost twice this week, including 4 of its last 6.

Anderson got beat badly by a team receiving no votes.

EMU takes a bad loss for the second time in 3 games.

I also think WashU is way overrated right now, but who do you replace them with?  If you have watched their games recently they dont look crisp. Also, none of those "big" wins they had early in the season seem that big anymore.  The highest ranked opponent they have beaten is #21 IWU, and they are sure to drop now that they lost by 25 to Carthage tonight.

I think there will be a lot of scatter in top 10 voting this week.  I am surely uncertain about how to order the teams.

Near the bottom of the poll, I think Amherst, IWU, Miss. Coll. will fall out.  That means a few teams will enter the poll.  My best guess is that Carthage will make it in.  I am not sure about the other two, I think Emory can break the top 25 if they beat WashU tomorrow but for the other spot, 3 of the 4 top ORV teams lost this week.  It is going to be a coinflip.  I think Colby, at 15-2, deserves a look out of the NESCAC, but there will definitely be some mixed opinions there as well.

Mr. Ypsi

Yeah, Colby has kinda snuck up on people.  They will definitely be somewhere in my top 25 this week, though with games @Williams and @Middlebury next weekend, they will either jump WAY up or fall back off the ballot! ;)

While I still have a nagging feeling they will be overrated, I imagine I'll go with Williams #2 (I already had them #3 last week, but UWW would have jumped them) - I can't find any real alternative.

Just 23 places to go! ::)

Captain Outlier will return this week.  After all the losses and mix-up combined with my lack of faith in more than a handful of teams, I went through my remaining 75 squads and re-ranked their entire seasons again.  As usual I weighted recent performance more highly than early season results.

What I'm left with is a list of 59 schools, the Top 25 of which will be wacky, when compared to the rest of the ballots.  That I am almost certain about.

Hopefully the UAA games tomorrow don't mess with too much.

So Whitworth and William Patterson in your top5?  How much more highly?  May I suggest 420% and put them at 3 and 4?   :D
