St. Norbert has a very high Massey rating, so while they haven't done anything super-extraordinary, they've done what they have needed to do.

In the left coast bragging rights dept, someone explain how Chapman can continue to move up with the pack with victories over the likes of Southwestern (a Bible college) by only 13?  That school is 2-16 and yet I expect to see Chapman move up again?  That's not a good win, in fact, its evidence that it is possible to sneak into the top 10 without a quality win.

As much as I believe that Chapman does belong in the Top 25 rankings, I will be the first to admit that their current rank is probably a tad overstated. However, you can't take a victory over a "lowly" NAIA Division II as the reason why Chapman moved up in the rankings this week. Other teams in the middle of the rankings shuffle around quite a bit due to surprises. For example, Randoph-Macon's last two games dropped them from the top 10 because they were "bad" losses. This probably artificially "pushed" Chapman up. In addition, Chapman may not have a great SOS, but they keep winning and this eventually counts for something.

By the way, the fact that the margin of victory over Southwestern was 13 is no indication of a "bad" win. As the coach sees the post season approaching, he wants the bench to play more minutes in order to give them valuable experience, especially against opponents where the end result is meaningless. In this game, the bench played nearly 40% of the game. Had the starters stayed in, the difference would have been much greater, trust me!

Yeah, "float-up" is real.  That may be the hardest thing for a team to overcome.

Their fans are deluded into thinking that a team is better than it really is, when other teams, in hard conferences, are taking mid-season licks.

I trust you on the recent game result that Chapman could have had a bigger number.  I am not down on Chapman per se, I think that a SOS, OWP, OOWP evaluation is the "anti float."  I also think the subsequent posts got the message I was trying to convey and RT framed it nicely.

It is extremely possible to have a very good record and not be a top school, just ask the BCS committee.  ;)

Elmhurst is one the teams I've used for comparison this season since they've played 5 teams in the poll/receiving votes...

@ #4 UW-Stevens Point (beat EC by 8...up 9 at the half and led by 10 or so most of the 2nd)
vs #9 St. Norbert (beat EC by 2...EC led by 5 at half and for 16 minutes of the 2nd before giving up lead late)
@ #11 Chapman (beat EC by 15...led by 10 at the half and by 16 or so most of 2nd)
@ #23 Carthage (beat EC by 17...led by 14 at half and up as much as 31 in the 2nd)

vs ORV Ill. Wesleyan (beat EC by 10...led by 6 at the half and up as much as 20 in the 2nd)

Chapman handled EC fairly easily, as have all the above except St. Norbert.

The preferred deadline is barely over an hour away, and only ten ballots so far. :(

Any more in the pipeline?  (I'll hold the deadline, if necessary.)

If you can hold off until 7:00 Central, I may be able to get one more in...  I'm cooking dinner when I get home from work.

Fantastic!

Don't tell my wife, but apparently nagging really does work! ;D

Hopefully we will have a poll by later this evening with 13 voters. :)

Mr. Ypsi

I now have the expected 13 ballots in, but a (possible) error on one.  An otherwise highly ranked team by 12 posters was omitted completely; just checking if that was intentional or an oversight.

Poll will hopefully be coming fairly soon.

I have checked my message box, and apparently it is not I who did such a stupid thing (again).   ;)
