Sheesh... I was responsible for two orphans? At least they both got votes in the 'real' poll.

I'm usually either completely within range or a one-time outlier. This week, I was the low outlier on Chapman. But I'm slightly worried that I was only one step away from HF on UW-Whitewater, UT-Dallas, and Middlebury. I feel as though I'm the anchor guy tethered to HF on the cliff face of Outlier Mountain.

Hey, you're witnessing my massive comeback on the pick'em.  I may be more right than crazy this year.  Being close to Sager is evidence of that.

We're living in a crazy world when I'm the benchmark for prognosticating accuracy for two straight years. If I was a gambler, some burly goon from the mob would've broken my legs years ago.
In any case, your prognosications have been earth shaking, to say the least.   ;)

A general question to the board...

Has the OAC fallen so far back into the pack of mediocrity that its conference leader does not even crack the formal Top 25 and it receives only 2 votes in the Posters Poll?

It actually woke me up this morning. I thought that my upstairs neighbor had fallen out of bed.

Looks like it. The OAC has slumped this season in non-conference play, going 38-37 thus far. Last year it was 48-38, the year before a sparkling 54-29.

I still think John Carroll is a top 20 team, but they only seem to play that way once in a while - which makes it hard for them to be ranked until they prove their ability in the post-season.

As for Wilimgton, they've been on a bit of a free fall the last month or so.

The only other team I think is good enough to consider is Heidelberg and they've been a mess in conference play.

(Our 15th voter is nwhoops1903 and he passed the 'no homers' rule with flying colors - he put Whitworth right where they finished in the poll! :))

22 Carthage           58 (12,16,18,19,21,22,23,23,24,24,-,-)

I didn't have Carthage at 12 or Chapman at 8..that's for sure.  ;)

Just when you thought things were sane in the Posters Poll then EMU blasts Guilford AT Guilford DURING White Out night.
Wabash Always Fights!

Mr. Ypsi

We.ve commented on the problems of ranking teams with great records, but suspect schedules.  We've talked about up-and-down Brandeis.  Now we have EMU! :P

They lost to Southern Va., but avenged the loss big time.  They've split with so-so HSC.  They lost to mediocre Bridgewater. But they also have trounced then #1 RMC by 23 at home, and now eviscerated #1 Guilford by 27 AT Guilford.!  Deciding where to place them is likely to be the hardest feat this week.

Also, had Guilford amassed enough credit to remain about #3, or do they drop further?

dc_has_been

After a stomping like EMU gave them it will be hard for me to keep Guilford in the top 3.  Especially when I battled with who to have at number 1 this week with them and Williams.  For me it will be interesting to see how the week finishes to see who I'll have as my new number one team.

The difficult part about ranking the ODAC is the top 3 teams have really only lost to themselves.

Virginia Wesleyan has lost to EMU and Guilford

Guilford has lost to EMU and Virginia Wesleyan

RMC has lost to EMU, VWU, and Guilford, plus one loss to Washington and Lee

EMU is the crazy one. They've beaten the other three, but they lost Southern Virginia, Bridgewater (Va.), and Hampden-Sydney.

It's really tough to get a beat on this group nationally. All I know is Guilford and Virginia Wesleyan will likely be right next to each other on my ballot, and they'll both be relatively high.

Looks like I'll be starting from scratch all over again.  At least I have a lot less teams on the list now.

Colby losing on the road to Williams and Midd was one thing (even with both being blowouts); tonite they lost at home to Conn College, who has an overall losing record and was 1-6 in the NESCAC!  They may have just played themselves out of a Pool C.

This was a really tough week.  I did not replace any of my Top 25 (assuming Brandeis wins Sunday), but I did move some of the rankings around a bit.

I'm really not that confident in any team past #15 at this point.  I don't really think any of them are Top 25 worthy, but by default.

I agonized over my #1 for quite a while.  I think, despite the loss, Guilford is a very deserving team.  I also believe Williams is peaking and despite a schedule lacking a real top tier win, the fact that they've won often.  In a season when nearly every team has had at least one inexcusable loss - Williams' 5 point road loss to RMC seems the most excusable.

I am so glad we get to redo these every week.
