With Ferrum pulling out the comeback to win at home over NC Wesleyan - I've gotten my poll in.  From 13 on down there's even less confidence than last week.  If the champion doesn't come from that top 12 the world no longer makes sense.

North Park is good.  I've had them on the radar, despite iffy results.  I've just not seen enough from IWU to vote for them yet.

That deserves 1,000,000  ???......they are 8-9

IWU goes down to North Park and continues to vindicate my not having voted for them at all this season.

I gave in and put IWU towards the bottom of my ballot last week, in spite of the fact that the Titans have been far from dominant in CCIW play, simply because I ran out of teams that are even in the ballpark for deserving top 25 consideration. I should've shown more fortitude.

First, a lunar eclipse on the Winter Solstice and now this.

Who knows, da Bears may win the Super Bowl.

In any case, a sign of the end times...

Uh, Ralph, you do realize that NPU beat IWU last year as well, don't you? This is hardly the stuff of hyperbole. Yeah, it was an upset win, but hardly an epochal one.

Quote from: Mr. Ypsi on January 23, 2011, 01:57:33 AMWhile NPU has been reeling lately, I've always considered them a dangerous team.  I was out this evening and didn't see IWU play (if video was even available)

Lord love a duck, Chuck, Rob Berki and I have broadcast every NPU home game for the past two years. I posted a link to the video feed on CCIW Chat on Saturday afternoon:

That was last year. I'm talking about this year.

From a purely Carthage prospective, this team is just getting darn shallow.

Against North Park, they didn't get any rebounding out of Malcom Kelly or Nick Bauch, who have been the two hitting the boards the hardest.  I'm impressed with Bauch's play of late; more so than I was early in the year, but he only had 2 boards last night.  Kelly does crash the boards, but didn't do as much (maybe because of the foul trouble) and didn't have many against North Park.

???  Huh? Carthage hasn't even played North Park yet. NPU visits Carthage next Wednesday to end the first round-robin.

Let me remind those of you who will be staying at home this evening that Rob and I will be on the call as usual for tonight's North Park basketball broadcast, as the Vikings host Illinois Wesleyan. Tipoff time is 7:30 pm, and my live halftime interview guest will be John Born, head coach of the NPU men's soccer team.

Either Rob or I post the link to the video feed at least half the time, and I figured that we were wasting our time in doing so because everybody knew about it. And you still weren't aware that we were broadcasting IWU @ NPU?

Sometimes I wonder about you, Chuck.

(BTW, the game is now archived, so you may click on the link and watch it at your leisure.)

Quote from: Mr. Ypsi on January 23, 2011, 01:57:33 AMbut from what I've read (and intuited), NPU played a fantastic game on the same night that the Titans imploded.

NPU played very well, but "fantastic" is a real stretch. As I noted on CCIW Chat, the Vikings turned the ball over too much (19x) and didn't shoot all that well. The Titans didn't implode, either. I'm sure that it was one of their poorer games of the year, but I honestly don't feel that they're really a top-notch outfit to begin with. IWU, like a lot of other CCIW teams, has turned out to have more holes in it than most of us CCIW observers thought at the beginning of the year. The CCIW is Underachievement Headquarters for everybody who isn't either wearing Augustana navy blue or North Central crimson.

Quote from: Mr. Ypsi on January 23, 2011, 01:57:33 AMThey shot horribly from the field and were out-rebounded (by a smaller team) 39-25.

NPU is not a smaller team than IWU.

North Park is good.  I've had them on the radar, despite iffy results.

You must be talking about a different North Park than the one whose games I broadcast, HF, because the North Park I watch on a regular basis shouldn't be on anybody's radar. It should be on your Hubble telescope, at best.

The Packers beat Da Bears, so the NPU win may have been the concession from Olympus to the mortals in Chicago this week.   :)

My humble apologies, Greg.  I never read carefully enough and thought you and Rob did an audio broadcast.  (I always thought you had a face made for radio*! ;))

[There goes MY Christmas card! :P ;D]

Ralph, that was one of the more lopsided, down-to-the-wire games in a long time.  The Packers absolutely dominated the game, yet a third-string Bears qb I had never heard of had cheeseheads sweating right up to the final interception! :o

This must be some type of cosmic justice...all those cheeseheads will be sitting in Jerry's stadium.   :D

I think that most old time Dallas fans hate the Packers more than any other non-East Division team, and the Steelers run a close second!

Mine is in.  Ughh!

Rob and I are the first to tell people that there's two very good reasons why the camera operator never turns the camera around, even when I'm conducting an interview.

Being told you're better-looking than Garrison Keillor is like being told that you're more sensitive than Don Rickles. Not exactly the most ringing of compliments.

I'm not considering voting for them, but they've had good results against strong teams.  When you're talking d3 there is a sense of have and have-not.  Some teams have the talent to beat anybody, but few are able to pull it off.  I try to keep those teams with the possibility of success "on the radar" so to speak, as a way of judging how other teams are doing relative to them.  NPU is ranked 140 by Massey right now, amongst the likes of LaVerne and Nazareth; I still consider North Park to be a bit more formidable than those squads due to schedule and performance.  IWU should be beating NPU, but this loss hurts them less in my eyes than a loss to a similarly ranked team.

I am in.

As for North Park being on radar, you must have an AWACS in your house.  My radar looks more like my microwave oven and North Park is not a "Hot Pocket".

Seven ballots in so far, and people are obviously having trouble with the bottom third of the ballot.  38 teams named so far, and 9 are orphans! :o

MANY slots still in tight battles, so your vote WILL count. ;)

I probably added a couple orphans to that list.

New "real" poll out now.  I'm surprised at how many of the teams there I named.
