I have a hard time imagining an ODAC that is so "down" that they do not have a single team that is not at least Top 22 which is what I deduce from the balloting.

Yeah, but you're spinning the data to make it look like I "hate the ODAC". I have them with two teams in the Top 30. That's still good. What I meant is that they were at top 2,3,4 type league, and they're just not that right now.

The ODAC seems to have an abnormal number of losses to USA South schools.  Pretty sure they've mostly dominated that conference in years past.   Massey's index is also counting 4 or 5 losses to D1 schools that should have been exhibitions, so the league is probably a little higher ranked than the #14 conference massey has them right now.

By the way this little gem of a score happened last night.   Hampden Sydney 140 Patrick Henry 40...guh!! :o

Current Patrick Henry assistant coach and former North Carolina Tar Heel J.R. Reid was probably not impressed.  PH is a junior college so I have no idea why H-S is playing this game let alone counting it. ???

My gosh, that box score is full of win. (Or fail, depending...)

I especially like it (or not) that Hampden Sydney couldn't be bothered to get Patrick Henry's record in the box score. But a look at a roster shows they have juniors and seniors. I think this is the college built for home-schooled evangelicals, not a juco.

And of course, they spell Hampden Sydney wrong on their schedule. Yeesh.

Oh well wait, I guess J.R. Reid wouldn't have cared one bit as apparently there is also a Patrick Henry Community College.

Mr. Ypsi

I think the ODAC problem with Massey (in addition to the d1 exhibitions counted as real games) is that the bottom teams seem to have fallen back after several seemed on the rise.  Overall, the conference is not what it was (though I think considerably above #14), but I would match a top four of Va Wes, Randy Mac, HSC, and Guilford up against nearly any other top four.

Just to throw my two cents into the VA Wesleyan discussion... I will assume if they're left off the ballot then other teams in the top 25 left off would likely include (and I only looked at teams actually left off a ballot) Transy, Franklin & Marshall, Cabrini, Birmingham Southern, and William Paterson.

I was surprised to see everyone who made the top 20 was on my ballot... and then none in 21-25 were. Maybe I'm not such an outlier after all ;D

Because we often lack cross-regional comparisons, teams like MIT and VAWes, who have lots of talent back on teams that proved themselves in the tournament get an advantage from some people (me included).

We don't know how good a team is until they get well into the post-season.  We can only guess.  VAWes brings back a lot of talent; they've been winning games for the most part, albeit with some erratic results.

It's not like any other team is just lighting it up this year.  We lack a real front runner more than any year in recent memory.  It's all hit or miss.

I need to figure out a new way to vote.  I'm really dissatisfied with how things are going.  I think there's a lot of 4 and 5 loss teams in mediocre conferences who are better than the 1 and 2 loss teams in bad conferences.  I'm just not sure how to exactly tell which ones are real and which are pretenders.

I guess what I'm saying is, I wouldn't be all that disappointed if Ypsi decided to end the poster's poll run this year.

Hoops Fan,

A. Don't sweat it. It's just a poll and it's supposed to be FUN, not ulcer-inducing. So just relax.
B. I try not to use pre-conceived notions about 'good' conferences and 'bad' conferences.
C. I try not to penalize good teams in bad conferences that much - they can't control the conference schedule.
D. The more votes, the more voices.

I guess I'm saying that there's NO reason to be dissatisfied or upset. It's a fun little exercise and no one is demanding that you are perfect with your thoughts. Again, it's FUN!

Thanks for submitting a ballot despite your reservations!  I was afraid your were giving a 'farewell address', and I can't afford to lose any voters! ;D

Like smed says, relax and have fun!  Afterall, we aren't the 'real' poll, with millions of dollars hanging the balance!  (Oh, wait, this is d3, not the BCS! 8-))

No different than me or many of us I suspect. I don't think there are more than a dozen teams I am certain belong high in the poll. But maybe I'm missing some that should be higher. It's fun matching wits with all of us experts though right??

Ralph Turner

Mine is in.

There is lots of parity beneath the top 15-20.

This should be a very interesting tournament.

This year's UMHB team is very, very good.  They will host the ASC tourney this season.  I think that they might finish 27-1.

I think that the BSC wins the SCAC and no Pool C bid comes from the ASC or Trinity.

I still don't see how they can host a Sectional as a travel orphan.  Hosting a second round game might be possible for UMHB.

Mr. Ypsi

Good news: I received 5 ballots yesterday, a new Sunday record. ;D

Bad news: I received only ONE more ballot today so far.  I trust MANY more are enroute?! 8-)

After seeing the real poll, I'm not so upset about my own.  I still don't like the bottom, but what can you do?

AAARGH!!  WORST. MONDAY. EVER.

(In the PP; I'm sure I've had far worse in real life! 8-))

Still only 6 ballots.  Tomorrow IS another day (thanks, Scarlett ;)).
