Well, I can see Albertus. But someone is disrespecting The-BeltTM by not voting for CMS.

But isn't voting for CMS disrespecting The-BeltTM by bothering it with such frivolities as Top 25 polls?

You know, Hopester is just a few posts away from karma granting (and smiting) status. I'm surprised he hasn't been more aggressive this week with his posts. But I respect the self-restraint.

Some strange placements in this week's poll. ???

Such as?

RIC at #4. They didn't win their own conference tournament or regular season crown. I would think the voter that had them at #4 would have placed Eastern Connecticut in a higher slot, yet nobody has East Conn higher than #10.

UWSP at #6. 3rd in their conference regular season. Lost in the tournament semis. Lost to River Falls 3 times yet the voter who has them at number 6 places River Falls somewhere below Stevens Point in his rankings.

WPI at #11. Don't think a team with an 18-7 record deserves to be ranked that high. Hard to find a team (if ever) with that record, ranked that high.

I definitely need to be convinced of why those placements are where they are.

Perhaps he had specific teams in mind (he can answer that), but I suspect he was just commenting on the even higher number of 'outliers' (both high and low) this week.  We have a more eclectic (and opinionated) group of voters this year than previous years, so have had tremendous diversity in voting compared with before.  But this week may have been even more extreme than earlier this season (I haven't looked in detail, but it felt that way).

Some of the individual teams that jumped out at me:

CMS: 7 votes in the top 9, then 12, 20 and out.
Cabrini: 9 votes in the top 12, and out.
RIC: a 4, 11, two 24s, and 6 outs.
WPI: an orphan at 11.

Not saying any votes were 'right' or 'wrong', but they sure did vary! 8-)

(And just before I hit 'post', magicman DOES chime in, citing 2 of the same 4 examples I used. ;))

This was me again, pretty sure its been me all along.  Its the schedule that keep them out of my Top 25.

RIC #4  I don't have them #4 but I was surprised how well they ranked for me.  They've played a really good schedule.

Okay, I will 'fess up.  I am the guy who voted McMurry #25.

Yeah, we are only 20-8, but we have won 5 in row, including wins over Regionally Ranked HSU and UMHB in the conference tourney.

Sure, we have only a 24.4% chance of beating the #2 team Whitworth, but what would you expect from #39? (BTW, McMurry's 100-75 win in the first round over ETBU  in the ASC tourney was not submitted to D3hoops.com).  (How much that win impact our numbers in the Top 75, etc? Thanks.)

I guess that the strangest placement that I have had this season, but I just had to do it.

Go Indians, er, McMurry, uh, War Hawks!   :)

I considered McMurry.  I still had Hardin-Simmons above them, though and I couldn't quite get them in.  Maybe the final poll when some other losers have dropped out?

Ralph,

Thanks for the info on the McMurry/ETBU game.  Adding that game would roughly raise McMurry about 0.6 points, putting them at #34.  It would also raise their chance of winning to 27.2%.

But just don't double penalize teams for bad schedules. Some rating systems do.

HSU is good, and Matt Allison is the finest offensive player that we have had in the conference since Howard Payne's two time All-American Benny West.  HSU beat us twice. We just beat them in OT in the conference semi-finals, when it counted.

This one doesn't, we've been over that. :)

Since we're nearing the final poll... will the tournament winner automatically be #1?

Personally I doubt I'll have IWU at the top if they win it all (they weren't even on my ballot entering the tourney). MIT and Cabrini would almost definitely be #1 (since they were #2 and 3 before the tourney on my ballot) and UWW would probably be up there close (I had them #11 entering).

I don't require voters to place the champion at #1, though I believe they have always ended up there, and at least usually unanimously.

(If my Titans win it all, I reserve the right to disallow any ballot which does not have them #1! ;D)

(I wonder if Cabrini has made it on to sac's ballot yet? ;))
