Mr. Ypsi

I have ballots from smedindy and KnightSlappy, but have been stalled with just the three of us all day now.  I'd be much comforted if at least three more showed up before the end of the day! 8-)

Working on it now.  We'll see how much research I can get done before the football game comes on.  If only they've put it on a channel I received I wouldn't have to tie up my computer watching it.

I thought the football season ended when Mount Union beat St. Thomas. 8-)

So did Notre Dame.

Hoops Fan, you CAN'T still be watching the 'game', can you?  Gotta see if Alabama can top the Bears' 1940 defeat of the Redskins in the title game (73-0)?

Nick Saban ain't George Halas (in either talent or relentlessness).  (I'll guess a final of 42-7.)

Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan)

No, I stopped watching the game at 21-0.  It was over then.  I've been watching "Charlie Bartlett" on one of the extra channels they send over the broadcast waves.  Features a teenage Cat Dennings, a strangely out of place Robert Downey Jr, a random cameo by Drake (pre-Drake) and staring the guy who plays Chekov in the new Star Trek.  Fascinating stuff.

Anyway, I managed to finish my scouring of every conference in about 3.75 hours.  I've got 77 teams on the list, roughly ranked, but needing some hardcore editing.  That's not happening tonight - hopefully I'll have a good Top 25 by tomorrow afternoon.  Hopefully.

I'm getting there... much tougher to figure out than the football poll. Can't we just have a national round robin with all 400 some teams playing each other once?

Well if FCGrizzliesGrad sent his in, then Ralph's and the one I just sent in makes three more and you should be "much comforted"  . ;) One of my goals is to make sure Mr. Ypsi stays in his comfort zone. I wouldn't want an uncomfortable Mr. Ypsi unleashed upon these boards. ::)

All in all about five hours of work for the initial poll (I don't spend nearly the same amount of time on any other, save for the final), but it's in and finished.  I don't think it will be too controversial, but there may be some outliers involved in terms of order and placement.

As for the "real" poll.  I think I left out only two teams.

Just quickly on my process - I search through each conference, looking at every team with 4, 5, or 6 losses or less (the number depends on the conference) and compile a list of teams that I can't yet rule out.  I try to rank them roughly as I make the list, but it's difficult given the volume and the time frame.  Also, my perceptions change as I go through and realize some teams are not as good/bad as I thought they were.

Then I start at the top and begin comparing teams to each other, placing them in position until I get 30 teams ranked in order.

Finally, I check both the Massey ratings and the d3hoops.com Top 25 poll and consider teams that are included in the Top 25 of either, but failed to make my initial top 30.  Hopefully that gives every deserving team a shot to be considered.

We'll see how it goes.

KnightSlappy

I just filled in all the MIAA teams from 1-8 then put in select team from the GL region to round it out (except for the PrAC, because never the PrAC). Easy enough.

smedindy

It took me about 20 minutes, really. No need for angst or sturm and drang about it. Is this team good enough? Yeah. What's their Massey? Oh.

My spreadsheet has about 75 teams on it. That's a good pool to start with.

Mr. Ypsi

We now have 8 ballots in and tabulated - better than I feared, though less than I hoped.

I'd like to put out the poll by the end of the evening.  If anyone plans on a ballot, but cannot get it in by, say, 9pm, please let me know.  A number of multiyear pollsters have not yet been heard from (I'm thinking especially of Greg, sac, and Greek, but also others) - c'mon and join the party.  Right now #1 and #2 are separated by precisely ONE point!

Mr. Ypsi

Last call for ballots.

Greek has brought us up to 9.  If I don't hear a request for more time, I'll begin typing in about a half hour or so.

It'll probably be up as soon as I go to bed tonight.
