Mr. Ypsi,

You have all the ballots from the last Posters' Poll, so your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to see which voter had the most teams in the Sweet 16 ranked on his Top 25 poll. I know that no one had Morrisville State, so 15 is the most a voter could have. I'm guessing that 12 or 13 is the winning number. May I have the envelope, please?
Probably won't be me... I only had 10 which includes Richard Stockton barely in at 25. I didn't have Calvin, Dickinson, Emory, Morrisville St, Virginia Wesleyan, or Wheaton.
I only have 5 of my top 14 still alive :o

So here's the deal.  I just looked back at my most recent ballot and apparently I had Purchase on at #22 and #24.  I didn't catch it and evidently Ypsi didn't catch it either.  The team I had first off the list (#26 essentially) was Dickinson.

I don't know if that counts or not.  If it does, I had 12 of the 16 (missing Virginian Wesleyan, Morrisville, Emory, and Calvin).  If it doesn't count, obviously I'm at 11.

The Calvin thing really bums me out.  I had them ranked early on in the season.  I thought they were very good.  Their conference season was less than impressive and I wrote them off.  Sad.

That being said, every team in my last Top 25 made the tournament, 12 of them are still alive and 4 lost to teams I had ranked above them.  I feel like 9 "upsets" is pretty good.

I caught that, but that low on the ballot the points are almost non-existent.  I decided to just drop the 24, move 25 up to 24, and leave 25 vacant.

Sir, mission accomplished, sir!

No one had Morrisville or Emory (or Dickinson, though I'll accept Hoops Fan's word that Dickinson would have been in at 25 if I had called his attention to the double-listing of Purchase).  And of course, there were 7 or 8 that were on everyone's ballot.

Most Sweet 16 teams on ballot, by voter:

12 - magicman and Hoops Fan (granting him Dickinson)
11 - 7express
10 - Mr. Y, frodotwo, Knightslappy, FCGG, sac
8 - smedindy

Well, I was a Staten Island true believer because I have fear and loathing of the elitist swine. Oh, wait, channeling HST.

But I didn't have any outliers, either. I had Witt and OWU in my final poll near the bottom.

Thanks Mr. Ypsi.  Plus K

As usual, the secretary will disavow all excuses such as,  I would of If I had known. A card laid is a card played. ;D I'm not good at sharing. :P

The real Top 25 poll only had 10 of their ranked teams in the Sweet 16.

Well, I'd like to have it up while people are still talking hoops, but no real urgency - the next season is, alas, a L-O-O-O-N-G way away!

I worked mine out this morning and submitted it to Ypsi.

I struggled with three placements:

Cabrini (I ranked them #21) - I saw them play at the Hoopsville Tournament at the beginning of the year and in the NCAAs at the end of the year.  Walton-Moss was not up to par at the beginning, but the team was much better.  My guess is that the addition of Walls mid-season messed up the chemistry.  I saw a disciplined, team-oriented game in November, but a gross, free-for-all by the end.  The other players clearly didn't know how to play with Walls (who isn't prone to pass).  The tourney results bear this out.  I think they could (should) have been higher, but the team they became was worse than the team they started with.

Brockport (I ranked them #15) - I think this team was better than 15th, but with their best player going out at the end of the season, they really didn't have the opportunity to prove it.  I just never know how to factor something like that into the rankings.

Stevens Point (I ranked them #1) - Yeah, I know they lost in the tournament.  I admit they're not national champs and they don't deserve the Walnut & Bronze.  The way Whitewater was playing, Point very well might have lost a rematch.  But we didn't get to see it.  Frankly, a two point loss to Emory was the only weak moment in the entire season - a season full of good teams on the schedule.  There was not a single easy team.  They dominated the whole year and, in the end, even Whitewater's run wasn't enough to overcome that body of work for me.

I'll try to have mine in by tonight, if I can't I'll definitely have it by mid-afternoon tomorrow.

Just sent mine in.  Since I missed the year end last year not sure whether you should grade teams on how they did in the tournament or the whole body of work??  I did mine towards advancement in the NCAAs, so if I was struggling between 2 teams, the decider was how far they advanced, so that's why I think I'll have a lot of outliers, especially at the end of the poll.  7 of the last 10 teams in the last poll were out by the first Saturday, so I put some teams that made nice runs (like Morrisville, & Dickinson) into the last couple spots in the poll, since those 20-25 picks will barely register overall anyways.

Sorry to disillusion your sense of being 'Mr. Outlier', but every single team you voted for has been named on at least half the ballots! ;)

We've now gotten six ballots (including a first timer); can we get to 9 or 10?!

I'll post one, but it'll take a bit (not likely tonight).

I was going to do one until I found out that you didn't bother to go to the Championship game and you were only three minutes away from the civic center. I know, I know, you thought the game was at 3:30 instead of 5:30...that's still no excuse. Especially when you consider the fact that it would have taken you 30 seconds to go online and find out the time of the game. Or better yet, check out the time of the game before you ever decided to go for a bicycle ride. I mean you are the #1 poster, in terms of time, online, (light years ahead of the guy in 2nd place) and you couldn't put in that extra minute to find out the info on the Championship game? ??? And this was the first time you made the trip to Salem? I'm sure disappointed in the leader of our Posters' Poll. :P I'm glad it was such a great game. ;D

Just kidding Chuck as I'm sure you had good intentions to please Mrs. Y, for putting up with the basketball stuff, and as you stated, you regret missing the game. The long hard winter that we in the northern latitudes experienced, was too much of a strain on the brain, especially when faced with temperatures that must have felt absolutely like paradise. I can see how the biking trails seemed like a good idea. I don't agree with it but I understand. :D
