Mr. Ypsi

My heart says GM (for obvious 'underdog' reasons) and LSU (for 'above-and-beyond' response to Katrina, and a morale boost for all of Louisiana), but, alas, my head says Florida and UCLA.

Go Heart! :o

UCLA is not good enough.  Ben Howland is a miracle worker, but getting to the final four is hitting the ceiling for this team.  Give them another year.

Well, heart lost the first one - I think Florida will probably take the title, regardless of the second game.

UCLA is up 39-24 at the break.  Ouch.

With 10 to go, UCLA is up by 24.  They have been SO dominant, that I am no longer confident about my Florida pick.  Should be a heckuva final.

If you're a betting man, they usually bet with their heads and not their hearts, at least you have that going for you.  ;)  I had UConn, Texas, Pitt and BC, with UConn beating Texas.  Oops.

Okay - after last night (especially the second game) I think it's way past time for Billy Packer to give it up.

6 minutes left in the alphabet game (LSU vs UCLA) and he's talking about UCLA is paying the best game of the tournament??

Sure, they were up 57-34, but they had only scored 7 points in the last 9 minutes.  The funniest part was that just as he said that, they flash the turnover stats (LSU - 15  UCLA - 17).  It was almost as if the guys "in the truck" were trying to prove him wrong.   Not so sure the coach would agree that was all that great of a game.  Granted, the game was boring, especially  in the second half, but come on.

Has Billy Packer ever been good?  I mean the Nantz-Packer combo must have pictures of Les Moonves in a very compromising position in order to remain the #1 broadcasting team.  There were 16 broadcast teams in the first round and I'd say nearly half of them could have done a better job with the Final Four.

ANNOUNCING: THE 2006-07 POSTERS' POLL!!!!

This may seem a strange time to announce (with the boards virtually emptied), but the absence of much bball action is also a good time to figure out who deserves to be on your radar.

The procedure will be unchanged from what evolved last year - each poll reflects games thru Sunday, with picks due by 8 pm (EST) on Monday.

The first poll will be for games thru January 7; picks due January 8.

I hope that all 12 pickers from last year will return, and we'd love to be joined by some newcomers who follow d3 NATIONALLY (this certainly means YOU, DC and DHF, plus any others who go beyond just their own conference/region).

As before, I retain the right to ignore ballots that are obviously 'home-cookin' (though I have never exercised that right - it would occur only if your have 6 of the top 10 from your [mediocre] conference, or CalTech ranked #1).

But PLEASE doublecheck your ballot to be sure you haven't ACCIDENTALLY omitted a team you meant to rank - last year I 'checked' on about a dozen ballots (it is NOT going to happen if you leave off a team other posters think is about 22; but if you leave off a team everyone else ranks in the top 10...), and for those who got back to me in time, MOST admitted it was an error.  When necessary, I'll still check, but I won't be happy! :P

If we suddenly blossom to 100 pollsters, I might resign!  But I'd love to get up to 20-25 pollsters.

Poll selections may be sent to cabonney@netscape.net, but using the PM service (to Mr. Ypsi) is preferrred.

Thanks for the invitaiton, Mr Ypsi!

I'm in.  Can't wait to be vindicated once again for leaving a consensus top 10 team off my ballot only to have them lose mightily down the stretch.
