Oh I like it, Brockport receiving votes on the posters poll!

Mr. Ypsi

pgo4,

This is the fourth (of 7) week they have - they even tied for 25th in the first poll.

pg04

Oh that's even better...this is the first week I've noticed the poll lol.   :-[   Is there a similiar thing for the football board and how are he pollsters decided on  :P (Question city!)

Mr. Ypsi

Please be sure to understand we are in no way competing with the d3hoops.com poll - that is the 'gold standard' in polling.  We're just a group of posters who want to stick in our two cents - anyone who follows the national scene is welcome to join in (though I normally don't allow new voters after the second week of polling, to assure some continuity).  To maintain some level of credibility, I reserve the right to ignore any ballots which are obvious 'home cooking' (though I've so far never exercised that right - voters seem if anything to bend over backwards to avoid conference or regional bias).

My original intent was to stimulate conversation by comparison with the 'real' poll - why do we see 'x' as higher (or lower) than they do?  That hasn't really happened, but there have been some interesting conversations within the poll itself.  One on-going example is Hope - most of us have them in the top 10, one hold-out didn't rank them at all until recently, and still has them 24th.  But he makes an interesting case for his vote.  This week 5 of us have UW-LaCrosse in the midteens, while 3 left them out entirely - should the strength of schedule and quality of wins outweigh the fact that they have a LOT of losses?  Obviously, our views differ!  The poll has also brought our attention to some teams that otherwise may have been overlooked - one voter will 'champion' them, and, if they keep winning they WILL get respect eventually.

So far as I know, no one is doing a similar poll in football.

Thanks for the response.... I wasn't assuming you were competing (Pat and the gurus have all the inside info  ;)) I just think it's a good idea, and this is the first I explored this area.  If it isn't done in this way on the football boards I may consider doing something of the kind.

Keep up the good work y'all

I want to take this opportunity to thank Mr Ypsi for his conducting the Posters' Poll for another year.

I think that the Posters' Poll has helped the serious fan to look behind the scenes in a way that does not compromise the integrity of Pat's Top 25.  The issues that we are debating are similar to the issues in Pat's.

This week, I threw in Wheaton, John Carroll and Lake Erie.  The Wheaton vote is to acknowledge the perennial strength of the CCIW. My vote for John Carroll is my acknowledging that the OAC standard-bearer is almost always Top 25 calibre.  I give Lake Erie a chance, because they have persisted with the schedule that they have mastered.  After considering whom they beat in the sub-regionals, I may vote them much higher next week.

My Top 25 are in the Top 30.   I left off ONU and UPS, because I got tired of their losses.  I have not given DePauw enough notice, altho' I wouldn't have ignored their winning the SCAC tourney next weekend.

My vote next week will acknowledge the conference tourneys.  I may consider 4-6 teams that are not on this week's ballot, because I believe that there is only about an "inch worth" of distance between #22 and #26 or even #31.  ;)

I finally had it with Puget Sound and Johns Hopkins, I've been oversold on PS for awhile, at one time I was their highest voter.  But they've been slipping on my ballot for awhile I believe.

I've been trying hard for 3 weeks now to get an OAC team in the poll, but my best candidates keep losing right before I want to vote them in.......arrggghhhh!  So I have a spot reserved for the OAC tournament champ next Sunday.

My new teams I tried this week............Occidental (not really new but I forgot to vote them in a couple weeks ago and on the advice of my Western D3 source they should be ranked)  Brockport St. (why not or why) and Centre.   But the last two are really hanging by a thread.   LaCrosse and Wheaton are knocking on that door.

I see a couple others joined the DePauw bandwagon.  Really anyone from 20-25 is pretty tenuous on my ballot.

Do to a clerical error on my part........I will only be ranking 24 teams next week.  Apparently this is what I should have been doing all along. ::)

Sorry, sac, I don't count ballots from people who have the intelligence to work for the NCAA! ;D

Best joke I've seen anywhere on the board about this one, sac!

Are we doing a poll? Or is everyone still on selection hangover?
