What's holding up the PP?  Is it my ridiculously unconventional ballot?

Mr. Ypsi

Ten ballots in, and past the posted deadline, but I'd really hoped for a new record!  One last chance - I'll start typing the results in about an hour.

Very interesting that WashU get 5 1st place votes, Amherst 3........and Amherst is #1

Whats up with Puget Sound not getting a vote?

Bottom of the poll is just utter chaos isn't it.

Mr. Ypsi

sac, I can't really comment on your first two observations without breaking 'omerta' on the poll!

The bottom was actually less fractured than I expected after all those low-end defeats - I'm accustomed to typing 40+ names!  (I do think Wheaton may have set a record for most votes without making the top 25 - they just had no specific 'champion' - note they tied CCIW colleague Carthage, despite being named on 6 ballots vs. 2.)

Washington not being #1 has that 4th place vote to thank.  But this Friday's game against UR in Rochester and Amherst-Bowdoin matchup on Sat. just might  give us some more turmoil at the top for next week's poll.

Anyone want to own up to that 4th place vote? Mr. Y knows but I'm sure his lips are sealed.

Yeah, I could tell ya, but then I'd have to kill ya! ;D

I am disappointed in my 'rebel' nature - every team I picked was picked by at least 5 voters!  I've usually got at least one 'orphan'. ;)

Mr. Y.

Never mind. Just discovered that Marty made it public knowledge when he posted his top 25 late Sunday night.

I didn't have any orphans either. Actually quite a lot of agreement between the 10 posters. Only surprise to me is how 3 teams UPS, Plattsburgh St., and MHB fail to get votes on all 10 ballots. They've been in the D3 poll all year so I think you've got to rank them somewhere on the list. But hey, everyone's got their reasons.

magicman

I thought Oxy would climb back into the D3 poll this week but they fell a few votes shy. And they just lost one of their top scorers last week, inside guy Joe Sasich for the rest of the year.

Well I was a bit suprised to see that Puget Sound actually wasn't on a ballot, considering that they have been in the Top 25 all year and only have 2 losses.  I can only come up with 2 answers.  The pollster is...

1) A Lewis & Clark backer and is still very upset about the UPS comback this weekend ;D.

or

2) A new pollster who just ins't familiar with UPS.  I would invite you to learn more about the UPS ball team on this website or at http://www.ups.edu/mbasketball.xml

All in all though it just gives us something else to discuss, and it doesn't really have any implications so no biggie...To quote The Dude, "That's just your opinion...man."   :)

Neither one.  It was me.  Like I said in a previous post, because most of my conceptions of these teams were shot to pieces over the last week, I decided to avoid looking at previous rankings and go back to the starting board.  I went through every conference and chose the teams that I thought deserved consideration.  I then went and ranked all of them (I think 52 in all).  Puget Sound's schedule and results were just not as impressive as they were three weeks ago.  I'm not in doubt that they'll move up eventually, but they aren't there yet.

In fact Ypsi sent me a message to make sure I intentionally left UPS, Plattsburgh, and Mary Hardin Baylor.  Plattsburgh was the only one I reconsidered and I may regret the decision to leave them off in the future.

The only difference between now and 3 weeks ago is that Puget Sound has 5 more wins and 1 more loss, their first against D3.  Granted the loss was at home (inexcusable) but Whitworth is a solid team, that might crack the Top 25 in the next poll.  At 14-2 Puget Sound did play some questionable teams, but they also did beat two D2 teams, and for what its worth UW-Stout.  Also I believe they are ranked 12th in the Massey and ofcourse 7th in the latest Top 25 poll...okay enough politicing :D

Mr. Ypsi

Now that Hoops has 'outed' himself, I'll add that his omissions probably made no difference in the standings (except for Puget Sound).  If he had voted UPS at least 21st, they would have passed Augie for 7th, but even a first place vote wouldn't have been enough to catch Cap for 6th.  He would have needed to voted UMHB at least 13th to pass Centre, or Plattsburgh at least 14th to pass UMHB.

smedindy

UPS is 13th in Massey and 77th in SOS. Those are pretty stout figures! Plattsburgh and UMHB are well below that. Here's a place where I'd use Massey to rethink.
