GNAC Women's Conference update--

Despite losing at Rivier yesterday, Albertus Magnus officially clinched the #1 seed in GNAC South and home court advantage throughout the GNAC tournament-- thanks to the current second place team in GNAC South the Regis Pride also losing to Colby-Sawyer yesterday.

Albertus Magnus owns a 3 1/2 game lead over Regis in the GNAC South division.  The Falcons have 3 GNAC games to play before the tournament, while the Pride have 4 GNAC games left to play.   Albertus Magnus has the week off before they resume play on Saturday, February 11, at Regis.   Regis plays Lasell in GNAC play on Wednesday before facing off against Albertus Magnus on Saturday

Albertus Magnus clinched the #1 seed in GNAC South vs Regis on tiebreakers thanks to a 2-0 sweep of the University of St. Joseph (the current 3rd place team in GNAC South), while Regis went 1-1 vs the Univ. of St. Joseph this season-- the Pride lost by 6 points to USJ back in January.

Albertus Magnus also has home court advantage throughout the GNAC tournament thanks to the Falcons defeating both Emmanuel and St. Joe's Maine this season in crossover play.

Regis and USJ are battling it out for the #2 seed in GNAC South with USJ only having 3 GNAC games left to play before the tournament.

In GNAC North, St. Joe's Maine has a 1/2 game lead over Emmanuel for first place in the division-- the Monks have an extra GNAC game to play, which will happen on Monday when the Monks play in divisional play at Colby-Sawyer.  After Monday night, the Monks are heavily favored to extend their lead over Emmanuel to 1 game in the standings.

After Monday, the Monks will continue in divisional play at Anna Maria on Wednesday, followed by their big rematch at Emmanuel on Saturday.

Emmanuel hosts USJ in crossover play on Wednesday evening, followed by St. Joe's Maine visiting the Andy Yosinoff Court in Boston this upcoming Saturday.

If St. Joe's Maine and Emmanuel finish tied at 15-2 in GNAC play by the end of play on February 18, a coin flip will settle the #1 seed in GNAC North between the two teams.  Thanks to both of these teams losing to Albertus Magnus in crossover play earlier this season, the GNAC North winner becomes the overall #2 seed in the GNAC tournament this year, with the #3 seed being the 2nd place GNAC South team and the #4 seed being the 2nd place GNAC North team.

GNAC North update--

Final from Paxton, MA--  St. Joe's Maine 87, Anna Maria 65.   Monks improve to 13-1 in the GNAC North and set the stage for Saturday's big rematch at Emmanuel, where the Saints will attempt to split their season series vs the Monks and create a tie for the lead in the GNAC North at 13-2 in the division with 2 games left to play after this upcoming Saturday.

Final from Boston, MA-- Emmanuel 72, Univ of St. Joseph, CT 55 in GNAC crossover play.

Emmanuel improves to 12-2 in GNAC North, 17-5 overall.

USJ drops to 10-6 in GNAC South, 14-9 overall.   USJ will remain in 3rd place in GNAC South-- if that position holds the USJ Bluejays would be the road team at the 2nd place GNAC North team in a Tuesday GNAC quarterfinal on February 21.

The big rematch of the season comes at 1 PM Eastern on Saturday when St. Joe's Maine plays at Emmanuel.   A Monks victory on Saturday would clinch the GNAC North title for St. Joe's Maine and force Emmanuel to have to hold off Rivier next week for the right to host USJ in a Tuesday GNAC quarterfinal and a potential semifinal trip to New Haven, CT to take on Albertus Magnus.

If the Saints win on Saturday, that would create a tie for first place in the GNAC North with the St. Joe's Maine Monks.  If St. Joe's Maine and Emmanuel finish tied in GNAC North play with 15-2 marks by the conclusion of play on Saturday, February 18, there would be a coin fiip to detemine the winner of GNAC North with the winner of the coin toss getting a home semifinal game and not having to travel to New Haven until the GNAC title game.

Final from Weston, MA-- Lasell 57, Regis 46

Albertus Magnus had a bye tonight.

Regis drops to 10-5 in GNAC South, 10-11 overall, 1/2 game ahead of USJ for 2nd place in the GNAC South standings.

  With a 4 game lead in GNAC South over Regis and 3 games left to play until the GNAC tournament, Albertus Magnus cllinches GNAC South title and #1 seed overall outright.-- Albertus Magnus has home court advantage throughout the GNAC Women's Basketball Tournament.

Emmanuel 73, St. Joe's Maine 69

Emmanuel and St. Joe's Maine are now tied for the lead in the GNAC North at 13-2 in the GNAC, 18-5 overall with 2 games left.

If both the Saints and the Monks win out on their final 2 games, a coin flip will be conducted at the conclusion of GNAC play next Saturday, Feb. 18, to determine who wins the GNAC North title and the #2 seed overall. 

The #1 seed in the GNAC North would have a potential home court semifnal game in the GNAC tournament and not have to travel to New Haven, CT to face Albertus Magnus, the #1 seed in the GNAC South, in a Thursday Feb. 23 semifinal.

Final scores in GNAC women's action

In GNAC North action from Nashua, NH, the final score was Emmanuel 83, Rivier 61

In GNAC North action from Standish, ME, the final score was St. Joe's Maine 78, Elms 51

Emmanuel and St. Joe's Maine finish in a first place tie in GNAC North at 15-2 in GNAC play.

A coin toss will determine the #1 seed in GNAC North between Emmanuel and St. Joe's Maine.   The winner of the coin toss will have a potential home court conference semifinal on Thursday, while the loser of the coin toss will have a potential Thursday trip to New Haven. CT for a semifinal game at Albertus Magnus.

In GNAC South action from "the Nest" in New Haven, CT,  the final score was Albertus Magnus 82, Lasell 77

Albertus Magnus finishes at 16-2 in GNAC play and is the #1 seed in GNAC South.   Awaiting confirmation of the final GNAC field, but it also looks like Albertus Magnus is the overall #1 seed in the GNAC women's basketball tournament as well thanks to their head to head wins over Emmanuel and St. Joe's Maine earlier this season.

From the schedule pages of Emmanuel and St. Joe's Maine--

This afternoon, St. Joe's Maine won the coin toss over Emmanuel, and with that result, got the #1 seed in GNAC North.

St. Joe's Maine will host a Thursday semifinal should the Monks prevail over #4 seed in GNAC South Johnson and Wales (RI).

The quarterfinal game between St. Joe's Maine and JWU will tip off Tuesday at 5:30 PM Eastern in Standish, Maine.

Emmanuel is the #2 seed in GNAC North and will host a quarterfinal vs #3 seed in GNAC South University of St. Joseph (CT) on Tuesday at 7:30 PM Eastern.

Should Emmanuel win on Tuesday, the Saints would most likely travel to New Haven, CT for a conference semifinal against #1 seed in GNAC South Albertus Magnus.

In other quarterfinal action on Tuesday, Rivier (#3 seed in GNAC North) will play at #2 seed in GNAC South Regis, with the winner most likely travelling to Standish, Maine for a potential Thursday clash against the Monks.

In the other quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Colby-Sawyer won a tiebreaker with Norwich for the #4 seed in GNAC North, and will make the trip to New Haven, CT for a quarterfinal round matchup at "the Nest" vs Albertus Magnus.
