Yesterday afternoon, I met with Coach Yosinoff, and I asked him about Emmanuel's California trip.  The games were originally scheduled to be played in Puerto Rico this year, but were moved to southern California due to Hurricane Maria's impact on the island.  Emmanuel was instrumental in moving the classic to California and effectively was the host team for the 3 team classic with UW-River Falls and Dickinson.

Coach Andy Yosinoff said that if he had complete control over the schedule of the classic, Emmanuel would have played Dickinson first and River Falls second, but the travel schedule of UW-River Falls prevented that from happening.

He was very impressed with the quality of play of River Falls, and thought that they were just as tough an opponent as Tufts.  Different playing styles, though.

Coach Yosinoff has been very impressed with the development of Kayla Weaver and Mary McCarthy as players over the past few weeks.

So far, Coach Yosinoff thought that the 3rd quarter of the Emmanuel vs Dickinson game was the best quarter that Emmanuel played all season.  GNAC fans can still purchase the Emmanuel v Dickinson game on-demand for $5.00 on the Whittier College video streaming page and judge for themselves if they so wish.

He also asked me about my alma-mater, Brandeis, and we talked about the UAA so far.  I chatted about the newest addition to the Wash U family, Zeke Henderson.  In case you are wondering, Randi and Duez Henderson both played in the Big Ten for Iowa.  Wash U coach Randi Henderson is 6 ft 2, and Duez Henderson is 6 ft. 7.  This is in answer to a question that Coach Yosinoff asked me yesterday.

Anyway, back to GNAC play yesterday.  Regis escaped with a 4 pt victory at Norwich last night-- that was the closest game of the night.

Looking forward to watching Emmanuel take on Albertus Magnus next Thursday.  Olivia Bolden of Albertus Magnus currently leads the GNAC in scoring and rebounding.

2.). Emmanuel hosts Albertus Magnus tonight.  The Saints are 23-2 lifetime vs Albertus Magnus, but the Falcons have the top scorer and rebounder in the GNAC in Olivia Bolden.

I still can't believe that 3 women's basketball coaches outside of DIII reached the milestone of 1,000 career wins this season.

Yesterday, Barbara Stevens of DII Bentley got her 1,000th coaching win with a victory over Adelphi in Northeast 10 action in Waltham, MA.  Congrats on the accomplishment-- I went to some Bentley games during my student days at Brandeis.  First DII women's coach to get 1000 wins-- 5th overall in NCAA.

Meanwhile, no Division III coach has reached 900 coaching wins.  Andy Yosinoff has the most wins among coaches currently coaching at DIII with 795, and is scheduled to get win 800 this season.  Mike Strong of Scranton retired with 815 career coaching wins.

Halftime--

Johnson and Wales 44, Regis(MA) 28

Regis's conference regular season winning streak is 20 minutes away from ending.

The streak started in Regis's final year as a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference and spanned through all of the years of NECC membership.

Final

Johnson and Wales 77, Regis 68

Regis's D3 conference regular season winning streak snapped at 118 games.

The streak started on Feb. 8, 2011 when Regis won its last 4 conference regular season contests as a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  Regis then moved to the NECC, where they went 18-0 in regular season conference play for 6 straight seasons.  Regis won its first 6 league games as a member of GNAC before finally dropping a conference game today, Jan. 18, 2018.

Olivia Bolden had a double-double of 21 pts, 18 rebounds (9 offensive) for Albertus Magnus.

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda led Emmanuel with 21 pts and 16 rebounds.

Emmanuel coach Andy Yosinoff now has 796 career coaching wins.  The earliest that the milestone of 800 wins can be reached will be in the conference rematch at "The Nest" at Albertus Magnus on Saturday, January 27, 2018.

Shorter seasons is one of the biggest reasons DIII coaches don't get the same raw numbers. Along with the fact that the tournaments are as easy to get into as they are for DII and DI, thus no extra games to rack up wins.

Also, some of the best in women's basketball at the DIII level tend to move up divisions.

Thanks for the note on this -- I assume you remember when Emmanuel once held this record!

Indeed I do.☺

In case readers are wondering, Emmanuel had a streak of 72 straight conference wins from 2000 to 2006, which was the D3 record at that time.

For clarification, I believe you meant to say "the tournaments are not as easy to get into as they are for DII and DI."

Other than that, the reasons that you mentioned as to why it is not as easy for a DIII coach to get to 900 wins are well explained, d-mac.
