Greek Tragedy

Nichols has Alectus listed as a grad student with Dottin and Ferebee as seniors. Curious if any are returning. W. Connecticut doesn't have anyone in their top 8 listed as seniors. Echeveria is listed as a senior for Endicott in addition to 3 grad students. I guessing Nichols isn't going D2 next year.

All three of those guys have exhausted eligibility.

Nichols lost a bunch of players, mainly Jones, Derring and frosh Ofcarcik. But they get Darrell Hardge from Eastern Naz, led them in scoring at 16.7 ppg. They also added Javon Flowers-Smith who was a CSAC rookie of the year at Keystone (24 ppg) before transferring to Oneonta last year. In addition, Jarnel Snow-Guzman comes in from Franklin Pierce, started 30 of 40 games the last two seasons. Lastly, Nichols welcomes Ryan Savoy, who played four years at NJCU, averaged 9.1 and 6.7 last year.

A Region 2 team that may be a bit under the radar is Western New England. Currently 9-3 and 5-0 in the CNE. Their only three loses are to very good teams in Brandeis (85-79), Keene State (83-78) and Trinity (60-57). Those three teams are in the top 45 of the Massey Ratings. They do have an impressive win over Ramapo. They probably won't have a high rating given that the league is down, but if they win their conference and get in to the NCAA's, it could be a team that sneakily makes it to the second weekend.

The talent has been there for WNE the last couple of year, they've just really struggled to play up to the level of their best opponents.  They'll get a big win and then drop an easy one shortly thereafter.  I agree, though, not someone anybody wants to play in round 1.

Greek Tragedy

Finally someone besides Nichols, although I've always enjoyed keeping an eye on them.

Marcus Montagnino is such a fun story. Plays club basketball at Xavier and transfers to Endicott as a grad student. Is averaging 22 ppg with 59/41/81 shooting splits. Leads the league in scoring. 7 straight "rookie of the week" awards and probably the odds on favorite to win CPOY.

Greek Tragedy

"Rookie of the week" for a grad transfer. LOL

At least name it "newcomer of the week."

Nichols RW game has been great. Nichols got up 14 in the first but Lopes has taken over and are about to win. Winner gets WNE. WNE likely the conference favorite to win the tournament but I like Endicott's odds if they can utilize the right lineups. They have the size and length and need to utilize it more to beat good teams.

Keenan hands down player of the year. Insane performance against endicott shooting 10-14 from 3, scoring 43 with multiple dunks. Verdile scored 19 on 5-7 from 3.

When was the last time Endicott has won a big game? I've followed for a while and the current scheme of small guard heavy offense isn't working. You give up too much on defense. And when there's no dribble penetration the 3 point shooters can't get looks. Very disappointing end to a year that looked promising.

You've got the best 40 min rebounder in the league on the bench for the final 11 mins of his career. You sub out 6'9 Kinney for 5'9. The best lineup for Endicott all year was the 3 big lineup rounded out with Kelliher and Boen. It was hardly ever utilized. Absolutely nobody could guard Keenan. Too much switching and leaving shooters wide open. Even leaving Gomez open for the middy. That's all that kid can do. And he got 5 open middies because we got sucked into Yardemians drives, when he's not even much of a scoring threat at the rim. Gulls have a talented bunch, but zero tricks ever pulled to win the big ones. Look around the league, WNE has size. That's why they always win the league or are right there. Look at the top teams in the country. Big. I will say, the program finally cleaned up a lot of interesting characters from years past who had walked all over authority, getting technical and throwing legitimate tamper tantrums mid game, punching walls, etc... Recruit bigger and stronger and you will get bigger and stronger results. And play those kids who are bigger and stronger who have college sized bodies.
