McMurry goes wire-to-wire in a comfortable 79-63 win.  Congrats Ralph!

Colorado is still 0 for the NCAAs after losing to UW-LaX 79-52.

TLU 62 ETBU 59. ETBU closed a 13(?) point deficit to tie, but could not close it out.

TLU vs McM for the 3rd time.

Also posted on the ASC website

I found great information on the ASC website about McMurry, HS-U and HPU and those great teams in the 2000's.

https://ascsports.org/documents/2024/7/14//ASC_Chart_of_Champions_07_1_2024.pdf

The ASC was at its peak. The HSU head coach was Julie Goodenough who went to Okie State and then Shanna Briggs. The 2000 HSU team defeated McMurry 62-60 in a classic in the Sweet 16 and then lost to Finalist St Thomas in the Elite 8. 2002 HSU lost to Finalist DePauw in the 2nd round. 2003 HSU lost to National Champion Trinity in the 2nd round. 2006 HSU made the Final Four.

As above, McMurry lost to HSU 62-60 in the Sweet 16 in 2000. The Tarra Richardson teams from 2006-2008 lost in the "Texas Bracket" which was frequently comprised of McMurry, HPU, HSU and Trinity. That winner was HSU 2006 Final Four, 2007 HPU Sweet 16, 2008 HPU National Champion, led by D3Hoops.com POTY Meia Daniels-Netter.

Tarra Richardson won the 2008 Jostens Trophy (think Heisman's for women's collegiate basketball). Trinity's Tara Rohde won the 2005 Jostens.

UTD and UTT have had their successes in the meantime. Let's see how far either McMurry or TLU can go.

That '03 natty was so out of the blue.  Trinity had never won a game in the NCAA championships, with two one-and-dones, the last in '96.  They'd gone 16-9 the previous season and were only 5-4 in the fall.  But Megan Selmon returned at that point and the team ran off a 14-game winning streak before losing narrowly to, of course, DePauw who as mentioned were the runner-up in '02.  That would be the last loss of the season.  They thrashed DePauw in the SCAC finals and after defeating Maryville at home in the second round (after receiving a bye) won four straight on the road to secure the only national championship in program history.

The following year the team went 24-3, lost in the SCAC championship final to (of course) DePauw, and were left sitting at home by our friends at the NCAA despite having that record and being the defending national champions.  The only defeat they suffered besides DePauw (twice) was a one-point loss at McMurry.

I'll be pulling for McM tonight.

Fond memories of that McMurry Lady Indians' L.I.B. upset of #1 Trinity on 12/29/2023, 73-72. Kit Kimbrell, the son of the legendary McM men's coach, Herschel Kimbrell, broadcasted the McMurry games on a local radio station that were subsequently streamed. I listened to the game broadcast thru the McMurry website on my 8K modem (or maybe I had a 32k by then.) After the game, I called someone at McMurry who took a picture of the scoreboard and sent it to me. I forwarded that picture to Pat Coleman who posted it on the D3Hoops.com website for the lead story that night.

Trinity came to McMurry wearing the mythcial Diva BeltTM.

Thanks for pulling for McM. IMHO, Colorado College likely was a #7 seed (#25 to #28 nationwide), but was UW-Lacrosse really a #12 seed?

#12 or a #10, the WIAC is just so strong.

This may not be the question you were asking, but UW-La Crosse was the 45th highest NPI team in the tournament, so a "high 12 seed."

Shows just how good an 11-loss team can be!

Ralph Turner

Yes, Scottiedawg.

A win over Bethel,   ...losses to GA by 3; to Hope by 3 and St Benedict by 3. The other 8 losses were to WIAC teams!

Such is the nature of the WIAC! They beat themselves up!

McMurry will face #5 Gustavus Adolphus (26-1) at 4pm CDT on Friday.  Winner of that game will meet the #2 Bowdoin-#8 Smith winner (and games will be held in Maine at Bowdoin).

It's going to be an unseasonably warm 47 degrees at Bowdoin on Friday, so you all have lucked out!

Bringing the early spring weather with them.    ;D

Google maps says it is 2065 miles from Abilene TX to Brunswick ME, 31 hours by vehicle. McMurry did not even have road trips that long in the ASC. (Abilene to Colorado College is 627 miles.)  :)

#5 Gustavus Adolphus 71, McM 58.
The game was tied at halftime and GA only led by 5 at the end of 3.
Kylie Flippin was 0-3 on 3FGA and Emily Holland was 1-7. (Shucks. Work interfered with my watching the game, so I am not sure how many 3FGA's were desperation versus cold shooting.)
That is a very respectable showing by McM.
Congrats and best wishes to GA.
