2017 early returns...

CUC is 5-2 with a nice win over top-10 St. John Fisher... Aurora 5-0 and putting up over 10 runs per game... Rockford also 5-2... Lakeland won their first three in Florida but were swept by Hiram yesterday... MSOE already wrapped up their Florida trip going 2-6.

Edgewood (March 9), Marian (March 10) and WLC (March 13) have yet to open the season.

An early stumble for CUC but they appear back on track.  Even the HC knew that the third game of the season was suddenly a big game after starting 0-2.

One more week before conference games start...

Edgewood 7-2
Aurora 10-3
Concordia Wis. 6-5
Concordia Chi. 7-6
Benedictine 5-5
Dominican 5-6
Rockford 5-6
Wis. Lutheran 4-5
MSOE 5-7
Marian 4-6
Lakeland 3-6

Edgewood with a nice start, but hard to tell how good their opponents have been. One loss was in extras to Augustana who is like 10-1. Good test for them with Wheaton and Bethel this weekend... Aurora's offensive numbers are silly, video game type numbers... Virtually everyone else hovering around that .500 mark, with CUC and BU both playing a few ranked opponents.

Thoughts

Edgewood has 4 games this week against CUC and BenU to prove that they are going to be contenders this year coming up this weekend.

I still think CUC will be on top as the dust settles. They have played a rather rugged non-conference slate and the record reflects such. Still surprised that they are receiving votes still but like previously stated, the voters could be cutting the Cougs some slack with their schedule.

To a degree the same applies to BenU what I stated above. But splitting series with MSOE and Lakeland of all teams, is not how to start the conference slate.

This may be a bit homer, but I think WLC is showing that they may be better than the conference poll may be telling.

I don't know man. Currently 11th in team batting average and 11th in team ERA. I know stats don't tell the whole story, but that's tough to overlook.

Weekend Thoughts:

Edgewood got knocked down a few pegs by getting swept by BU and CUC over the weekend. Still think they will have a pretty solid chance of making the conference tournament.

We still have a logjam of teams at .500 in conference play. Will be interesting to see who will break through that.

That Lakeland pitching staff got rocked in their four games Saturday and Sunday and managed to get one win out of that. Giving up 52 runs (46 earned) in 36 innings hurts.

Tuesday-Friday Matchups.

Tuesday, 4/11

Maranatha (1-14) at MSOE (DH)
Wisconsin Lutheran at Carroll (5-17)
Concordia Wisconsin at #3 UW-Whitewater (16-2)

Wednesday, 4/12

Northland (3-11) at Lakeland (DH)
Benedictine at St. Norbert (14-6) (DH)
North Central (IL) (9-7) at Aurora
Dominican at Chicago (14-5)
Beloit (8-11) at Rockford

Thursday, 4/13

Marian at Ripon (5-16)
Maranatha (1-14) at Edgewood (DH)

Friday, 4/14

Illinois Tech (6-17) at Marian (DH)

How does Lakeland give up 44 runs in a DH?! And Edgewood allow 31?! These aren't national powers they are facing.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

Clearly the ball is juiced. But only the ones that Aurora and MSOE were hitting with. ;D
