4/26 NAthCon finals:

Concordia-Chicago splits with CUW 9-10, 8-7 (In the Cougar win, a Walker 2 run HR was part of a 5-run 7th that put CUC ahead to stay; Pankow struck out Isaac with 2 Cougars on base to get the final out and assure a split for the Falcons---CUC PBP accts)

Benedictine splits with WLC  2-3, 14-7 (Warriors' Pollesch hit a 3-run HR, then Schmidt got the final 2 outs with the tying run on base in the opener; IL Eagles put up a 9-spot in 2nd to take command of the nightcap-Ben PBP accts)

Aurora splits with Marian  0-8, 12-1

WLCALUM83

4/28 In-Conference NAthCon finals:

Benedictine splits with Lakeland, 3-4, 4-0 (Muskies' Post hit a solo HR, then Phillips got out of a bases-loaded-no out jam in the 9th of the opener:  Benedictine's DePaul tossed a 1-hitter in the nightcap-Lakeland box scores-press release).

WLCALUM83

4-29 NAthCon In-Conference Finals:

Dominican sweeps Edgewood  1-0, 13-3

Marian sweeps MSOE  8-1, 13-4 (Sabers used a 4-run 5th in the opener, and a 7 run 5th in the nightcap to get the sweep. Mlodzik got the win in relief in Game 2, per Marian box score).

NAC Tournament field is nearly set.  There's a chance Marian could catch Aurora but I doubt it.  Looks very likely to be Rockford, CUC, CUW and Aurora.  Who gets what seed is up for grabs.  The NAC Tournament web site is up.  They'll have Live Stats and Live Audio for every game.

CUW dropped a game to Dominican today as well.  CUW won game one 12-0, but DU won game two 20-10.

Standings as of 5/1
Concordia Chicago  14-4
Rockford           13-5
Concordia Wis.     13-5
Aurora             13-5
-------------------------
Marian             11-7

Saturday
Aurora at CUW
CUC at Wis. Lutheran
Benedictine at Marian
Rockford at Lakeland

Sunday
WLC at Aurora
CUW at Benedictine
Marian at CUC

Rockford and Maranatha need to make a DH as well. No date has been announced, but MBBC does not play on Sundays so it won't happen then.  Monday I guess.

Standings as of 5/1
Concordia Chicago  16-4*
Rockford           15-5*
Concordia Wis.     14-6*
Aurora             14-6*
-------------------------
Marian             12-8

Saturday
Aurora at CUW (split)
CUC at Wis. Lutheran (CUC sweep)
Benedictine at Marian (split)
Rockford at Lakeland (RC sweep)

I think the four teams are set.  CUC and RC cannot drop below fourth place.  CUW has a sweep over Marian so they cannot fall below Marian.  AU split with Marian, but has better records against both RC and CUW.  AU is 1-1 vs. RC while MU is 0-2.  AU is 1-1 vs. CUW while MU is 0-2.

CUC will be the one seed if they can win just once against Marian tomorrow.

I'm totally new to the regional tournament inviting process. All I know is that  tournament champions who come from conferences that qualify automatically are "pool A", "pool B" invitees come from conferences that do not have automatic bids, and "pool C" are at-large invitees. (How am I doing so far?)

I guess I understand that the NathCon is supposedly quite a bit weaker than other Midwest region conferences. With that being said, is there no chance that CUC gets a pool C bid if they happen to beat Carthage on Tuesday (and get a little help if Carthage and other conference favorites win their conference tourneys)?  What would it take in the future for a team from the NathCon to get pool C consideration?

In addition, I seem to remember from reading the basketball boards that "in-region" wins are especially helpful. Does this hold true in baseball as well? Someone help me out here.

Welcome!

Yes, you are doing well.

Follow the regional rankings, and in your region, be better than the WIAC, UAMC and MIAC schools.

Here are 2 blogs from last season that went thru a fictional selection process to forecast the Pool B and Pool C bids.

Please look at the comments as well.

I am not sure that the NathCON will get a Pool C bid regardless of what happens from here on out. Your best hope is Aurora, but they need to get hot and many other teams need to collapse for it to happen.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

I totally jumped the gun!  Benedictine swept CUW so they get the #4 seed for the tournament.  CUW is out!

CUC clinched the #1 seed. Rockford will clinch the #2 seed with a sweep of cellar dweller Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday. That will leave Aurora as the #3 seed and BU the #4

Thank you very much for pointing me in that direction. As with the NCAA I men's tourney, "schedule tough non-conference competition and win some games and we'll start talking".

Hopefully CUC can seal the deal in the NathCon tourney.
