CUW blew out ECSU, 13-7? Right on. Olla didn't even start that game, according to the ECSU box. Derrick Pankow struck out 11 in 7.1 IP for CUW.

Johns Hopkins destroyed ECSU today, so that takes a bit of shine off the CUW win. But still, who thought CUW would beat ECSU by six? Not this guy.

Benedictine upsets #12 Carthage today, 13-5.

WOW!!!  The NathCon has mananged to come up with some nice early season non-conference victories to start the season.  Should make for a GREAT conference race!!!

Edgewood beats Emory (Ga.) 7-6 down in Atlanta.  Good out-of-region win for the Eagles even if Emory isn't quite as good as they have been.  Game 2 underway.

Another NAC team gets the best of Carthage. Aurora wins 2-0 behind a one-hitter from Steve Salazar.

CUC's offense erupted for 35 runs in its' NAthCon conference opening doubleheader sweep today--Cougars' Rush (opener) and Isaacs (nightcap) each went yard once-per stats.

So, CUC is dominating at 17-3 and yet they aren't in the top 25 OR others receiving votes?

To me that doesn't seem right to me.

4/10 observations:

CUC splits with Edgewood, 13-15, 13-3. (Don't know how that will affect the Cougars' national standing).

It was Rockford's turn to be a real offensive juggernaut this day, the Regents scored more than 30 runs in an -in-conference sweep.

The team formerly known as CURF just hasn't shown Top 25 staying power.  CUC won the NATHC tourney last season and then went "2-and-BBQ", just like 15 other teams in the 2009 tourney.

We have 55 team NCAA tourney this season. Subtract 16 from 55 and you still have 39 teams that went farther than CUC in the tourney.

"Yeah but we were in a harder Regional," you say.

Well, if you are looking to fill a Top 25 bracket, you can take the final 2 teams in each of those 8 brackets and get 16 teams that are probably Top 25 calibre.  We get fooled by how big D-III baseball is.  There are 360 teams playing D-III ball.  As Mr Ypsi reminds us, the equivalent of D-III Top 25 Baseball for D-1 FBS football would be a "Top 8" D-1 FBS.

The thing that I follow for the regions is the Regional Rankings that will come out on April 29th.  Let's see how CUC does there.

I hope that helps.  :)

Point taken, but CUC's 2-and-Q should have an asterisk. The Cougars lost to Wooster and Heidelberg, two Top-10 teams heading into regionals.

4-11 fnals:

CUW sweeps CUC, 2-1, 3-1. (If this poster remembers, will look at the box scores on these once they become available.)

Rockford splits with Edgewood 4-10, 14-3 (WI Eagles put up a 6-spot in the 7th to take the opener, 4th inning on in the nightcap, Regent offense went into high gear again, per Rockford box scores)
