Fifth place in the NathCon may sound bad but by the selection criteria it doesn't really matter. Conference finish isn't part of the equation so whether their first or tenth in their conference it is all the same in the committee's eyes. At least that's how the selection reads.

You can kid yourself that it doesn't matter, but in reality just look at the new regional rankings. Rockford and CUC have very similar SOS figures - CUC has a very much better regional record and they split thier games at Rockford,  yet Rockford is ranked ahead of them, only logical reason being...

No. 4 seed Aurora's Steve Salazar outduels No. 1 seed Edgewood's Scott Winters to win, 4-2, in Game 1. Salazar faded late, but Shawn Gorsline got out of a bases loaded, one jam in the 8th with only one run allowed.

Salazar with 10 K's and three hits allowed in 7.1 IP. Winters struck out seven in 9 IP. EC may have cost itself with questionable baserunning late.

Wind blowing out today in Madison Rockford. Thanks for the great live coverage, Edgewood!

Congrats to Aurora. Should be a tough out at regionals.

Not sure, but I'd think assistant coach Adam Smith(Carthage '98), would be the logical choice to step into those shoes.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

That's already happened, according to the Concordia website.

Adam Smith will do a great job at CUC as the head coach.  He has ten years under his belt coaching at the collegiate level after a great playing career at Carthage, and he has shown in two years how well he recruits.  Players will love his passion for the game and the intensity he brings, and I would imagine coach Smith will be at CUC for years to come now.

The news article has no details, but it doesn't sound good...

(I did get a chuckle at the user comment at the bottom of this article. Does the user know that the Duke players were cleared because the accuser was lying?  Apparently not.)

College sports and coaches are really all on thin ice, all it takes is an overeager assitant with the ear of the a.d. and support of some of the easily influenced players and your career can be out the window. Usually the turncoat falls flat on his face.

Goldengear what are you trying to get at here? I don't know the entire story, but it is pretty evident that CUC's previous head coach broke the law on numerous occasions, and it will be proven by overwhelming evidence in court.
