A 4 game series would test your pitching depth, I think the best way to do it would be to play a 7 inning game then a 9 each day whether it be fri/sat or sat/sun. That 4th pitcher would probably be the guy starting one of your mid-week non-conference games, or your top reliever. I know in the 7 inning games last year to open a series, a reliever was hardly ever needed for Carthage, I think only one time actually. But in wisconsin, in the cold weather, its tough to go a full 9, although having a week off after every start doesn't hurt.

That I dont know about. Its pretty hard to get an at large birth to the Regional. I would say whoever wins the Conference Tourney will get the bid, its unfortunate that they both couldn't if they were to go 1-2 in the Conference tourney but who knows, that's all up to the coaches I guess.

It is very tough to get two teams from the same conference into the tourney... if it happens, it usually comes from power conferences like the WIAC or CCIW. If rockford or Aurora can make a run into the top ten in the nation it would certainly help the other out for a second bid.

With the NIIC not having a Pool A bid this year, two teams will be tough, though it has happened before, as recently as 2000 when both Aurora and Benedictine got into the NCAA tourney.  Both had very good squads that year, with AU finishing 35-10 (after the regionals).

I was thinking of a more recent player than paddock, he was really good also, paddockhad the lowest era in the nation for most of that season.

uh i played with paddock and some very talented pitchers at aurora.  there were a number of guys as talented as josh.  i myself signed and played with the rangers and had a good rookie year but i screwed it up.  then you got matt deegan who holds the wins record at au with myself.  steve fike had a dominant year like 11 - 1, jeff ziobro was pretty dominant...  there are a list of great pitchers but those are the guys i played with personally.  yes paddock had that great year which amazed me but to say that no one comes close is outright wrong.  just had to chime in folks.  peace

Superstar...
Sounds like you are afraid that someone is going to steal your thunder. All I heard in your statement was "Me, me me..."

All of those AU pitchers mentioned were excellent.  However, only one has been named "National Pitcher of the Year."  Enough said.

big poppa - yes there were some "me's" in my statement.  i did mention the other pitchers who i played with that i thought were close to as talented as paddock also.  someone said no one came close to being as talented and that is not true.  just wanted to keep it real.  no one can steal what has already been done.

bodhi5 - pitcher of the year is obviously a tremendous accomplishment but it not the tell all criteria for judging talent.  there are too many variables to copare and contrast.

I saw Rockford split this weekend.
Rockford 2, UW-Platteville 7
Rockford 7, Westminster (MO) 6

Clarke opens on Tuesday

Talent means nothing without performance.  We all know of players who had "all the talent in the world" (sorry for the cliche, but it fits), but struggled to turn that talent into success.

Give a coach a player with mediocre talent and excellent performance, and he'll love the kid.  Give a coach a player with tons of talent and mediocre performance, and he'll be disappointed and bald by the end of the season (if we wasn't bald to begin with).  That, my friends, is keeping it real.

The NIIC does not have an automatic bid this season, because of the departure of Dominican.
The NIIC now falls under the Pool "B" bids.
7 Pool "B" bids for the 2006 season.
These schools that qual. for this are schools in conference with less than 7 teams, (NIIC 6 teams) and independent schools throughout the country.

Not having an automatic bid greatly reduces the chances of a second team getting in. One is most likely.

does anyone know the all time carthage vs. aurora record?  just interested in what it might be.
