Great P.R. move by the college, but a terrible coaching decision for the college. They are still sorting out the mess of the previous two firings and cannot seem to make a good call since letting John Weber walk away. Don't expect Lakeland to make any move in the baseball standings. I know for a fact that there were a few other coaches who were VERY qualified for that job that were not considered.

What a mess at Lakeland!

Anybody have an update on the Lakeland situation and how things are going?

How does the Muskies team look this year?

Lakeland should do ok for the next couple of years.  Govek had two good recruiting classes that Thousand was able to keep, plus with what they have coming back from injuries or sitting out(outfielder schmidt) they should have a good year.

As a side note, after being a finalist for the Northland job, Govek was hired as head coach for Ashford University, a NAIA school in Iowa.  It's nice to see that things worked out for him.

BigPoppa

Nice to see Govek land on his feet. He is a great coach and an even nicer person.

If you had to build an all-time team from each conference school, who makes the cut for each school?

AUpitch104k, please start posting and we can merge the topics into the correct region and a new conference page when I confirm its proper location.  Thanks.  :)

Here is the Newly Merged Board.  All previous posts from the LMC and the NIIC have been saved.  :)

Aurora should run away with this league... thoughts? Any other contenders we need to know about?

Per NAthCon web-site, Edgewood and Concordia-Chicago are also expected to be in contention.

I'm awfully surprised Lakeland got picked ninth. This is a team who finished fifth last year with a super young team and took two of three from Edgewood last year (Edgewood only lost 4 in conference all season). They will be a sleeper this year. They have plenty of talent returning (only one season long starter was lost) and their pitching should be much better. Their offense is going to be their strong suit, though, and could make some noise.

How good is this conference altogether though? Edgewood, the LMC's best, slips to second because of Aurora. You have two World Series trips in the last five years (Aurora last year and Lakeland in 2002) and a near miss by Edgewood two years ago. Dominican won the tournament last year with a super young team, and the team's two best pitchers return.

This has to be the strongest out of any of the sports the NathCon offers.

Here are the full preseason rankings:

1. Aurora University (9), 118
2. Edgewood College (1), 102
3. Concordia University Chicago, 86
4. Benedictine University, 85
5. Marian College, 76
6. Dominican University, 75
7. Concordia University Wisconsin, 59
8. Rockford College (1), 48
9. Lakeland College, 42
10. Wisconsin Lutheran College, 24
11. Maranatha Baptist Bible College, 11

I think that Lakeland will fall into the #4-6 spot by the end of the season. Edgewood is a good #2 choice, but they will not challenge Aurora for the title. I think it will be a frew years before anyone recruits the players needed to knock AU off the top of the  conference.

I believe it was Concordia that won the NIIC tournament last year who has their top pitchers back after only losing 2 seniors.  Concordia did however lose two starters who are not returning to the team this year.  With a deep bench CUC is bound to compete in the NAC

The NAC actually has three D3 Series appearances since 2002.......Lakeland ('02) and Aurora twice ('04 and '06)

Dominican did win the LMC tournament.  Concordia Chicago won the NIIC tournament.  So  the original post was correct to a point.

Concordia loses first game to Wheaton 8-5 in Arizona.
