Sucks that a 29 win team didn't make the tournament, Rockford got the shaft

Next year will the winner of the NAC get an automatic bid?

knarocky22

Last year Augustana was 31-10 and didn't get a bid, so a 29-win team not getting in isn't that much of a surprise.  I wouldn't exactly say that Rockford got the shaft.

schedule better teams....and hope the good teams on your schedule do not play bad...AU an off year that ends up hurting Rockford among others...the problem for a pool b or pool c in this conference is that there are too many weak teams in all sports.  These teams take away chances for strong opponents.  The conference should split to a north/south and reduce numbers of conference games.  This way a team can schedule better in-region opponents and have a better point total and make it.

Rockford did not get the shaft.....they did not score enough points to be selected on the criteria for at large bids.  The AU softball team did not make it and they had a better record.  With them it was the same weak teams.  Some games are worthless on a schedule and some games can actually hurt your total even if you win.

the AQ will come into place after next season.

Concordia-Chicago and Edgewood had golden opportunities to bolster their chances as well. Had the Cougars beaten both IL Wesleyan and Carthage, and Edgewood swept its' games against WIAC opponents and done better in the NAthCon tournament, prospects for an NCAA bid would have at least been slightly better, IMHO.

Concordia-Chicago also had a chance to beat Augustana but let it slip away in the end.

I guess next year someone needs to win 35+ games to get in the tourney.

Then finally in 2009 someone can get an automatic bid.

Yeah, those losses at IL Wesleyen, Carthage and Augustana hurt.  Especially since CUC was up on IL Wesleyen early and should have taken Augustana.

Carthage was a different story though.

Still would have been 2 more quality wins nonetheless.

I call CU-Chicago the first NAC automatic bid team in 2009, mark it down. (unless of course they win 35+ next year)

Conc-Chicago looks to be a solid program for years to come, but I do have to wonder about the coach, I love defensive adjustments as much as the next guy, but the guy is awfully close to making a mockery of the game. He spends half the game with the second baseman on the wrong side of the bag or without a right fielder, it seems to backfire much more than it works for him.

Somehow alot of baseball minds for 150 years have determined that other than the very odd circumstance such odd shifts don't make sense, but this guy in River Forest must think he is capable of reinventing the game.

CU-C's skipper seems to argue about 5 times a game on the average as well.  I think he just likes the attention.

As far as postseason bids, all edgewood had to do was win out their last two conferences series, both of which were at home.  They had enough quality wins and were in the tournament numbers wise they just did not get the job done at the end of the season.  But if you look at all the predictions from 2 or 3 weeks ago edgewood was there.

Props to Rockford's Fabian Gomez and Tim Rowe, and WLC's Chris Glasel for making d3baseball.com's All-American Team!  :) 8)
