Middle of the 9th inning now in Waltham, MA-- CWRU 25, Brandeis 17

Brandeis down to their last at-bats.   CWRU is 3 outs away from the UAA baseball title and the AQ.

This game however has been wild enough so that it would not be impossible for Brandeis to score 8 runs in the bottom of the 9th to take this game to extra innings or 9 runs in this inning to win this game outright.

CWRU may clinch the AQ today, but I really do not like CWRU's chances to win a regional in the baseball tournament with their porous defense today.

Bottom of the 9th-- 1 out

Aronwald of Brandeis has hit a solo home run shot to make this game CWRU 25, Brandeis 18.

The next batter, D. Tambiscia, strikes out swinging.

Brandeis now down to their final out.

Next batter, D. Walsh of Brandeis, walks.   Brandeis still down to their final out.

Next batter, K. Lee strikes out swinging.

Ball game over!

Congratulations to the CWRU Spartans-- 2025 UAA Baseball Champions-- AQ to NCAA DIII Baseball Tournament

FINAL from Waltham, MA-- CWRU 25, Brandeis 18

  CWRU clinches UAA baseball title-- now 13-5-1 in UAA play--(.711 win/loss pct).   Guaranteed at least a .675 win/loss pct in UAA play with a record no worse than 13-6-1 in UAA play, while Emory and Chicago can only finish at best with a .650 winning pct should these teams finish at 13-7 in UAA play.  [/b}

The issue for CWRU isn't so much defense, it's pitching. The staff is young and inconsistent.

GO SPARTANS!!!!

Great to see CWRU win the first true "full table" UAA conference baseball schedule, clinch the championship, and become among the first teams to punch its ticket to the NCAA tourney with an AQ conference title.

Actually, CWRU is the first team to officially punch its ticket in the NCAA DIII baseball tourney this year with the AQ.

Sunday action now underway in Chicago-- The starting Chicago pitcher did not last through the first inning-- gave up 4 runs and 5 hits to NYU and Chicago has now called in a long relief pitcher from the bullpen.

Starting pitcher for UChicago only lasted 2/3 of an inning this morning.

The first relief pitcher out of the bullpen then got the third out on a strikeout to end the top of the first.

Middle of first at UChicago's Kyle Anderson Field-- NYU 4, UChicago 0

First game of a doubleheader-- Doubleheader scheduled for 2 7 inning games due to get away day for NYU.

Start time for Sunday's CWRU at Brandeis game has been delayed to 1 PM ET, but the game will now be played on the Brandeis campus at Stein Diamond.   Tbe 2 hour delay is to get the field into playing shape after yesterday's rain.   The game had initially been scheduled for an off campus 11 AM ET start at Yetten Field at Waltham High School.

1st game of the Sunday doubleheader at UChicago's Kyle Anderson Field has gone final.

1st of 2 7 inning games.

FINAL-- NYU 8, UChicago 3  (7 inn).

NYU improves to 8-10-1 in UAA play and gets their 20th win of the season.

UChicago drops to 11-8 in UAA play-- 25-13 overall.

Game #2 (Final game of the 4 game series) in approx 30 minutes-- Senior Day festivities for UChicago will be held before the start of Game #2.   We will see if they can complete this game before NYU's mandatory get away time.   It seems that the time to stop play so that the Violets can get to the airport will be no later than 4 PM CT, 5 PM ET.-- since this doubleheader is scheduled for 2 7 inning games rather than 2 9 inning games.  The UChicago PBP announcer has yet to announce by what time the second game of the doubleheader must end play.

The UAA Baseball Code of Conduct as it relates to Sunday games states that any UAA doubleheaders played on the final day of a  3 day weekend are played as 7 inning games if the get away time is fewer than 7 hours from the start of Game #1 of the doubleheader.  If the get away time is more than 7 hours after the start of the doubleheader, then the games are played as 9 inning games.  Since today's doubleheader between NYU and UChicago is being played as 2 7 inning games, then it can reasonably be deduced, that since Game 1 started at 9 AM CT/10 AM ET today, then the get away time is no later than 4 PM CT/5 PM ET.

In Atlanta in the bottom of the 9th, M. Sicoli of Emory has just hit a 2 run homer to tie the game vs WashU at 4-4.

Emory can win the game with 1 more run-- extra innings will be played if Emory does not score another run this inning.

Update--  Emory's winning run is now on second base-- still nobody out.  Halloran with the potential winning run on second.

2nd update-- Emory now has the bases loaded with nobody out.   A single advanced Halloran to third, and an intentional walk has loaded the bases.

Ball game is over!   Liu's hit brings in Halloran to score, and the Emory Eagles come from behind to take the final game of the 4 game series vs WashU, 5-4.   Emory scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th while not getting a single batter out.

FINAL-- Emory 5, WashU 4.

Emory finishes the regular season at 12-8 in UAA play, 26-14 overall.

WashU finishes the regular season at 10-10 in UAA play, 25-15 overall.

Emory and WashU have no non-conference games remaining to be played over the next 2 weeks.

Both Emory and WashU will now be watching the updated DIII Baseball NPI reports via the NCAA stats site over the next 2 weeks to see if each team will secure one of the 23 at large bids to the NCAA DIII Baseball tournament when DIII finishes regular season play on May 11.  An updated report is scheduled to be up Monday morning.

While we wait for the remainder of UAA baseball play to go final today, here are the remaining non-conference games left for UAA baseball teams to play over the next 2 weeks.

Emory, WashU, and UChicago are candidates for 3 of the 23 at-large bids at this time based on the national NPI rankings through games of Sunday, April 20.   An updated report reflecting games played through today is scheduled to be released no later than Monday morning.

The 2025 UAA Baseball champion and AQ-- CWRU-- has 2 home non-conference games remaining at Nobby's Ballpark.  CWRU is scheduled to play Baldwin-Wallace this Tuesday, April 29, and is scheduled to finish the regular season vs John Carroll next Sunday, May 4.

WashU and Emory have finished their regular seasons.

1.)  UChicago has an away game vs Concordia-Chicago scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 to finish their regular season.

2.)  NYU finishes their regular season with a scheduled home Senior Day doubleheader on Staten Island vs Mount St. Vincent on Thursday, May 1.  The Violets then are scheduled to play an away game at Scranton on Friday, May 2 to conclude regular season play.

3.)  Brandeis finishes their regular season with 2 home games in Waltham, MA-- vs Amherst on Tuesday, April 29, and their Senior Day game vs Curry on Wednesday, April 30.

In Waltham, MA-- CWRU is now leading over Brandeis, 11-1 after 4 1/2 innings.   Brandeis has the bottom of the 5th, 6th, and 7th to cut into this Spartan 10 run lead and to prevent being run-ruled out in 7 innings.

deiscanton

Brandeis did not score in the bottom of the 5th.  In the top of the 6th, CWRU has just hit a 2 run homer with 1 out to extend their lead to 12 runs over Brandeis at 13-1 in favor of the Spartans.

Brandeis now needs to score at least 3 runs in the 6th and 7th to avoid having this game end early on the 10 run rule.
