Crap.  A lousy seed. Wesley has to go through Johns Hopkins to play Mount Union in the quarterfinals.  Wesley really hurt themselves this year with that loss.......

-SKi

Not really.  If you cant beat Johns Hopkins than you are not winning it anyway.  I see no issue here.  Just wish they were not in the Mount bracket again.  Shoot out with Framingham which they should win.  Go to DC and beat Hopkins.  Then Mount.

Not DC, just 45 minutes up the road, may come up from D.C. to watch that. Wesley has Framingham State, which is going to be fun to watch, I think Framingham can keep it close and if Wesley sleeps like they did against Salisbury, may be an upset...Framingham State has a solid overall team, but gave up some points early in the season and I can see Wesley capitalizing and putting up numbers.

Wesley should be able to handle Framingham, and all things considered it is a pretty okay draw if you are a Wesley fan. The potential JHU-Wesley game will be interesting. Obviously, the defensive woes are a problem, but I think Wesley's offense gives them a chance against anyone in the nation.

The potential rematch with Mount Union is looming (as long as both teams get there). I don't see Mount having much trouble until the quarters at least. I am wondering if it is becoming a mental thing for Wesley against Mount. In last years game, it felt like some guys just quit. If it is mental, how do you circumvent something like that?

I think if Wesley makes to face Mount Union they are going to have to run the ball and become more balance.

thought some of them quit before the game even started.  flat pregame and got worse.  If cortland scored 61 on Framingham than I figure Wesley will get plenty.  Can Framingham match scores?  Not likely.  They have played teams close in the recent years so they can not be taken likely.  I am ok with Hopkins.  Again, need to outscore them.  I also think the Mount thing is mental all around.  If they get that far I hope they throw caution to the wind and go for broke.  You never know how it will go, but challenge them with what you have.  Make them stop you.

Wesley's biggest problem imo is undisciplined play that they can get away with in the regular season but not when they play a quality team like Mt. Union. The silly penalties including the plethora of personal fouls game after game are inexcusable in my view and is something that is on the players. Also, shoddy special teams play has been an issue.  Wesley has as good skill as anybody in America but they will get smacked down by Mount Union if they don't clean up these issues.  I also don't think Johns Hopkins will be a walk in the park. I'm not optimistic about advancing past Mount but I hope I'm wrong and will gladly eat crow if I am.

I am not worried by Framlingham State at all.  I am worried about JHU, though.  Remember, Wesley had to win it's last game against JHU on a miracle drive with 58 seconds to go in the game.  This year's team does not have the defense that team did.  Wesley's offense is awesome, however, it depends on big plays to win games.  Therein is the problem.  Wesley does not control the clock.  As mentioned above, the running game has to work to keep the opponent's offense off the field.  For Wesley to even to get to Mount, they have to win the clock or outscore the opponent.  This didn't happen with Salisbury State, a program that was once considered having a slow, methodical offense.  In the game against Wesley, they were able to put the ball in the air when they needed to.  As good as Wesley's offense was, it could not overcome a lacking defense.  Wesley's defense has got to find a way to sort out it's secondary.  They MUST contest the receivers at the line AND stick with them if and WHEN they will slant or cross.....because they will.   Nothing hurt more this year than seeing a corner back up to 10 yards and seeing what was going to happen a mile away:  the receiver simply cut in for the free 10 yard pass.

My exact point.  Wesley now hits Mount in the quarters instead of the semi's.......

Wesley didn't have an over abundance of personal fouls this year. Most of their penalties have been holding calls that are usually called when Callahan goes out of the pocket. The linemen get locked  in and then Callahan changes direction and the D linemen pull away and  they caught when they don't release fast enough. He seems to like going to his left and then he circles right, Just one mans observation after watching all year

I will give you that Wesleydad. Point well taken. I was having flashbacks to 2014 with all the personal fouls.

I guess as fans, we are allowed to look down the road at potential match-ups, but I choose to stay focused on Framingham State. I hope Wesley's D can find a way to put some pressure on this QB without having to bring 5 or 6 people. They are used throwing the ball around pretty good and seem to use a bunch of backs too. The only key I see on paper is the QB, get to him, and then let the offense do what they do.

Please do not be worried about Framingham State, they would love to play spoiler to the Wolverines...Do I think Wesley will win? Yes, but don't get it twisted that the Rams will just bend over and lose 70-21. Now, looking at the game, this game can either be a high scoring affair early on or late. If there is low scoring, it would be something in the range of 38-17 in favor of the Wolverines.

Nobody will be taking this game more seriously than Wesley.  That is for sure.  I speak as a fan..... Anyways, it is interesting to note that this is the first time Wesley has faced Framlingham State since their only meeting back in 1995......

These are fun facts.  One of the cool things about the playoff system is that you get little nuggets like this - schools that have never played one another, or have only played once or twice in the long past, or even occasionally old rivals that haven't played in a long time.  I loved it that we (CMU) played at Wesley in the playoffs.  Not the result, sure, but the experience.  It gave me an odd kinship to the Wesley program as a former foe, and lets me fondly watch Wesley highlights on the Play of the Week and remember "I was at that stadium!"
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

There is a reason most of the New England schools have only played Wesley once . The before  Wesley was a top ten program they still pounder those schools. Have things changed? We will see Saturday
