dan your right about the conferences from top to bottom, I never commented on that, but people dont say the e8 is that great while people are always saying how "great" the njac is.  I merely point out that its not that great as everyone says.

And Id never write off cortland.  Of course I respect their program, coaches, players and tradition.  But theres some good trashtalk material considering their last 15 years of off and on football.

acmob, Ithacas been in plenty of staggbowls, win or lose......rowans been in a few too, lose or ...........  yea we know the answer to that one.

I am a d3football fan, I like to go to games whenever I can.  Im sorry we havent had the chance to embarrass ourselves in games like rowan has, but Id never make an excuse.  And I dont think rpi would be second in the njac every year, maybe once or twice in the last 15 years but not that often.

Ithaca lost 48-0 to the best team in the country in 2001.  Id never make an excuse for that game, and I always give credit where credit is due.

The NJAC is top heavy.  It's impossible not to recognize how much Kean and William Paterson have brought the overall conference strength down.  Western Conn was a mediocre addition too, who's past successes were predicated on playing and beating New England based schools.

Buff State's addition may be more significant than people are expecting.  I doubt they can return to their mid-90s form, but they are rebuilding and still young at a lot of key positions.  My thinking is they will step in next season just a tad below Cortland and Montclair, and be a quality addition to the NJAC.

Jonny,

My take on the E8 vs NJAC is that it is a wash.  They are the 2 best eastern conferences, but on a national basis both rather mediocre.

My argument has always been that the NJAC is a tougher conference to win because of Rowan's presence.  And therefore it is far more difficult to make the playoffs as an NJAC competitor.  On the other hand the 1-2 punch in the E8 of IC and Fisher is probably a step above the 1-2 punch of the NJAC, which is Rowan and a revolving door of Montclair, Cortland, and TCNJ.  The bottom of both conferences is pitiful, just pitiful.

You'd have to pay me good money to watch Norwich vs William Paterson.

Dan, Im not too sure that you could say its much more difficult to go to the playoffs out of the njac.  a njac team that went 9-1 would go to the playoffs over an LL team with a record of 9-1 so the league doesnt mean that much for a pool C bid.

JO!!  Like, IC has never laid an egg in the Stagg Bowl ??? (63-0), (28-0)  RU hasn't been shutout in any.

That's hardly something to gloat about, considering Ithaca has actually won Stagg Bowls.

Not gloating Pat!!  Just stating that IC has got their butts kicked also in the BIG game.  And Ithaca did win a couple Staggs, but that was before the Big Purple era!

How do you post just a portion of a post?  Delete the portion you don't want??

JT

utah,

Of Ithaca's seven Stagg appearances, 4 were against an eight team playoff field.  The championship game has evolved.  Many D3 schools were virtual club teams back in the day.

The quality of D3 football is much better than in 70's and early 80's.

Yea, but JT you could make the ncaa field 8 teams now and the best team would still win the national championship.

And the quality of d1 and nfl football is much better than in the 1970s and 1980s as well.

And there were also some powerhouses/big schools (dayton) back then as well.

Thanks Pat!!

JU--  I got no more problem with you, however, don't be chirping that Rowan makes the "East" look bad.  RU nationally is the only threat out of the "east".  If some other eastern teams would step up, then overall the "Rowan" bracket would have alot more recognition as a "tough" bracket.  Right now, other than Rowan winning the NJAC, I'm more interested in seeing how the NY schools settle their conference titles.  IC can take care of business this week and the LL gang will settle theirs in the next eight days.

Good luck against C-state because beating y'all may be their playoff!! ;)

It has come to my attention both Ithaca and Cortland administration has frowned upon the argument I was involved in yesterday on this posting board.  I apologize for my response to Jonny Utah, and for involving myself in such manner.  The response was in haste and posted without appropriate care.

While my website is unofficial, what I write on my website reflects back upon Cortland football.  So too does what I write upon these message boards.  I do not wish to jeapordize my privledged access to team games in the future.  I have worked very hard to establish my website in as professional manner as I can afford to do on a limited budget.  I value the relationships I have established with the sports information departments from other schools, and the trust they have invested in me when Cortland visits their school for games.

I hope everyone will understand I am removing myself from posting on the D3football message boards.  I will let you know on occasion when game stories and summaries are available.  However I feel it necessary I stay clear of defending the NJAC, or the Cortland football program, as such responses can be unfortunately spirited on my behalf.

I have enjoyed getting to know many of you on these message boards.  My email address in in my user profile should anyone wish to chat in the future.

Sell out.  Rowan blocks the punt with 12 seconds left!

Ball spotted at the 21
