As far as weather is concerned, this is the best year I have ever seen.  Usually at this point, Wesley has already had several nasty windy and rainy games.  Not this time!  The game against Salisbury is going to be yet another awesome weather day;  partly cloudy with a high of 60.  Yes!   This Route 13 rivalry game will be one for the ages.  Wesley will have to play flawlessly to win.

Agree with the weather.  Completing our soccer season on Monday and the only weather was during week 1 canceling a scrimmage.

I expect Wesley to win this game.  Now, that being said realize that they will have to play a virtually clean game.  I have watched Salisbury a couple of times and I can not get a good read on them.  After watching Rowan, I have no idea how the Gulls gave up 34 points to them.  Wesley will have to prevent big pass plays, they did not do well last year and it cost them.  I expect Wesley to get in the 30's, can they keep the Gulls under that?

I know Wesley can stop the run if they get their tackling assignments down against the triple option, which they usually do by the 2nd quarter.  My concern is the open middle with the short crossing routes that is cleared once the defensive line is committed to the run.  The key is the secondary plugging up the passing lanes to give time for the line to get to the QB.  CNU did a pretty decent job for 3 quarters against Salisbury in dealing with the QB option.  Wesley will need a full 4 quarters to pull this one out.....for all the marbles.

...then all hell broke loose!  CNU was leading by 7 and SU had a 3rd and 15 from approximately the CNU 35...well, they scored on a long pass play, which deflated CNU and inspired SU...ballgame!  I think Wesley will be able to score quite a bit on Salisbury....

big week

Wesley wins.  The rest of the games do not matter much if that happens.  If they don't, then I hope Frostburg wins so that next weeks game means something.

Wesleydad,
Congrats on the convincing win over Salisbury....nice to peek at the right time.

Finally got back after an awesome game and some serious spousal support time afterwards (shopping)!  Wesley was absolutely on the ball today.  While the defense allowed 311 yards of rushing, it held Salisbury to 13 points into the 4th quarter when they allowed two garbage time TDs.  It forced key fumbles when it really counted and had the game in the bag in the 3rd quarter.  Falkenberg was outstanding.  He didn't panic and made key plays with both his legs and his arms.  His rushing gave Salisbury heartburn grabbing 1st downs when it looked bleak.  Shade and Baynard were on fire.  Very proud of the Wolverines for keeping their heads out there on the field.  Once again, they let the opponent make the mistakes. I wrote the team off after the two losses early in the season and others here on the forum felt I was being too easy on throwing in the towel.  How right they were!  Wesley earned this one!

Yesterday's game swung on the first 2 Gulls drives when they moved the ball at will, but did not get into the end zone and had to settle for 2 field goals.  Wesley comes down and scores to take a 7-6 lead.  Salisbury again moves the ball with ease and takes a 13-7 lead.  After that it was all Wesley.  The defense shuts the Gulls out until mid way in the 4th quarter and Wesley scores 37 straight points to win in rather convincing fashion.  A very nice effort, well except for special teams - have to clean that up, can not allow a blocked extra point and field goal.  Falkenburg looks better than earlier in the year.  I loved the double tight end formation.  Take care of Willy P next week and who knows, they may even end up with a home game in round 1 even with 2 loses.

Frostburg looks pretty good right now.  They have kept everyone, except for the loss to Wesley, under 20 points.  That is some pretty good defensive play.  I am not sure if they have a chance in pool C if they beat Salisbury next week, but they will have completed their best season in many a year, if not ever.  Congrats to them.

I fully concur!  I hope that if they take out Salisbury next week that as a single loss team in a good conference that they can land the Pool C bid.  They certainly deserve the invitation.  Their SOS will go up as well.  It is interesting that the top 4 teams in the NJAC right now are all add-ons.

Wesley re-enters the top 25 at 20.  Makes sense with the 2 loses.  In the end win this weekend and then a few in the playoffs to make this a good year after being 1-2.

A totally do-able goal. I think that Wesley has found the QB they are going to go with for the rest of the season after the win vs. Salisbury. The defense was also impressive, regardless of the let up during garbage time.

It will certainly be interesting to see where Wesley lands in the playoffs (if they beat WP). I think their two losses will put them on the fasttrack to Alliance... maybe round 2, with a first round game at Hopkins, Stevenson, or an E8 school? Either way, nice to see Wesley going from sweating bullets to back in the drivers seat in the NJAC.

Keep an eye on Frostburg and Salisbury next weekend. That game will be interesting. The Indians and Cubs play in the World Series, and there is the potential, with a Frostburg win, of a playoff berth for the Bobcats.....

Frostburg, unfortunately has little chance of a playoff berth when you look at the RR.  They are behind too many teams and a win over Salisbury will not move them high enough to get on the board.

@d3jason

I think they would be the at least second ranked C in the region if they beat Salisbury. Better SOS than St Lawrence and a victory chain over Albright (who lost to Salisbury and has 2 losses). They key is the Fisher/Alfred game. If Fisher wins, they are behind Alfred. If the Saxons win, they are probably the number one C. They have to beat Salisbury though.

jason, if you have not already done so check out wally's projections on the pool c thread.  looks like the loser of fisher/alfred will be the first up.  then if the projections are correct on the new RR, frostburg may be the next up.  he projects the loser to go in round 2 so if frostburg is on the board at that point they may have a chance.  it would be nice for them since they have made a huge turnaround.
