Little fun with common opponents chain

St John Fisher 52 Olivet 10
John Carroll 37 Olivet 12

Wesley 43 Frostburg 7
Frostburg 38 St John Fisher 14

So Fisher beat Olivet worse than John Carroll and Wesley crushed a team that crushed Fisher so with this fun chain Wesley > Frostburg > Fisher > John Carroll so Wesley > John Carroll.  No need to play the game.  8-)

I was going to mention the same thing with Olivet, but it was the first game of the season and somebody would see a fault in comparing teams 10 games later.....

Early look at the game stats for John Carroll and they are tough to run on.  Looks like Wesley will have to rely on the pass more this week, and they certainly have the ability to get it done, but they have to avoid turnovers especially interceptions.  Or maybe last week is a look into things to come and Wesley will be able to run the ball and control the clock.  This may end up being a lower scoring game than we are used to with Wesley.  It is a winnable game for sure.

What I saw were average offensive numbers against Olivet which indicates that Wesley's defense could have an opportunity to contain the JCU offense and perhaps give the Wolverines some additional opportunities.  The key is to NOT get behind early.  Yeah, Wesley is a second half team.  They always have been.  That can bite them in the arse if they lag too far back against an active and early scoring JCU offense.   Add a good number of mistakes and...... well that is my biggest worry.  I do expect a pumped up Wesley team to arrive in Ohio and one ready to play.

JCU is solid if not flashy offensively.  They're balanced.  I won't say much about the line other than they looked pretty good against Mount.  Mount did a decent job, but JCU definitely won the battle up front.  Take that with a grain of salt as this Mount D line isn't good by their standards.

RB:  They have a big play RB in Golphin (he hit for an 80 yd TD against Mount) and a little bit bigger back in Kukura who is good as well.  I believe he's a transfer from Kent St.

WR:  Howell has been the headliner at WR (and played well against Olivet) but it was James who looked better against Mount.  And as always JCU has a big TE that's a threat down the seam.  Coach Arth always seems to have one of those guys for his QB.

QB:  Moeglin is a first year player at QB (soph, but was injured all last yr I think).  Ironically, he went to HS at St. Thomas Aquinas which is about 15 minutes from Mount.  He's a gamer and a good athlete.  He was the best player on both football and hoops teams that went deep in the high school playoffs.  He's just one of those kids that has "it".  I wasn't surprised when he marched JCU down the field at Mount for the winning score.  His issue may end up being youth though.  Wesley is a big step up from Olivet.  But he has played against UWO and Mount so it won't be a total shock to him.

91, you are correct.  I know neither game is what Fisher was at the beginning of the season.  Shame for the injuries, tough to overcome when you lose the best players on offense.  Saw parts of the ECAC game and they looked disinterested which is bad when you are playing a team that is excited to be there since things have been down for some time at Frostburg.

Thanks Dr. for the insight.  This has the makings of a real fun game to watch.

Safe travels to those coming to the shores of Lake Erie  (sort of) for tomorrows game. If Wesley is able to limit their mistakes, I like their chances. In watching the Olivet-JCU game last week, JCU was much faster than Olivet, so it will be interesting to see a more evenly matched game in terms of team speed tomorrow.

playoff loses to UMHB, UWW, and Mount, John Carroll is not any of these, so Wesley wins.

Well, except that JC beat Mount.  This is THIS year, not history.

Despite the above, I think the game is a toss-up - good luck to both teams, and no (major) injuries.

Well Mount is not the Mount Union we have come to know historically either. I think that statement is more a testament to Wesley's playoff experience. Thus far, they have only been able to get KO'ed by teams from the upper echelon of D3. That said, its going to come down to the team that makes the fewest mistakes.

Samsies with Fisher in the past decade.  They've beaten Hobart a couple times, Rowan, Springfield, Union, Curry, Delaware Valley, Johns Hopkins and John Carroll.  Their losses have been against Mount Union twice, UMHB and St. Thomas.  The color purple is no joke.  John Carroll does not wear purple and that will be their ultimate downfall.  Wesley wins by 9.

Have decided to stay home and catch as many games as I can on the computers.  There are plenty of games that I am looking forward to seeing starting with the Wesley/John Carroll game of course.  I will be watching the Hopkins/Mount game at the same time and then when 100 comes it will be as many screens as I can get on the computers to watch as many as I can.  Johnnies/Oshkosh, UMHB/Linfield, Wheaton/NCC look like real good ones.  Will also be keeping an eye on Alfred.  The only games that I think may not be close are the St. Thomas/Coe and UWW/Whit.  Enjoy the day and safe travels to anyone heading out to a game.  Going with Wesley, Hopkins, Alfred, Oshkosh, UMHB, NCC, St. Thomas, and UWW.  Would not be stunned if Johnnies and Linfield though, and of course Mount could win.  Great second round this year.
