Iona - 21   Montclair - 14    OT

A tough loss, but the young kids played real hard. They will only get better. The score at half was 14-5 Iona. The D played well but the O struggled. The same in the 3rd. We blew some big scoring chances, but the same could be said for Iona. DeFont had a 46 yard field goal and with 2:30 left we scored our first TD to tie the score and missed the extra point for the win. In OT, Iona scored on a 25 yard slant and converted. We had fourth and goal on the 1 and looked like we got it in, but the ref did not agree. A tough loss, but a good learning experience out of D3. A week off, then Frostburg, and Salisbury. We should have a good picture by then. It was a lot of fun today.

As of now congrats to Cortland, Rowan and Willy P.

LET'S  GO  MIGHTY  RED  HAWKS  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats, Rowan.  Based on what I saw today, I think it's safe to say that the Profs will do very well this year....thoroughly impressive.  Maybe we'll figure out a way to beat you guys one of these days.  Until we meet again....

GO CAPS!

The Cortland defense was monstrous today.  They blew up every play Brockport threw at them.  Covella had no chance, I really felt for the kid.  It was a sack and hurry fest.  The Cortland defense is definitely faster this season, and the corners are a year older and locking down better.  The defensive front made it impossible for Brockport to run, which really surprised me.

Offensively Cortland was much better than in their 2 scrimmages.  They finished drives in the first half, rather than letting scoring ops go by.  Rickert ran hard and showed surprising speed...so far I like him better than Steve Davis because he doesn't bother dancing around before he hits the gaps.  Alex Smith at QB was a lot more confident than he was as a freshman.  He ran when he needed to, and threw some nice passes even if the passing game itself wasn't a statistical hit parade.

I actually think Brockport is going to be ok.  Their biggest problem seems to be on the offensive line.  Covella looked ok considering it was his first game, and he was constantly under pressure.  Good luck Port against Salisbury...take it to them!

I love it...nice work Rowan getting it done at CNU's barn after the steady dose of trash talking for that last two months from those clowns...

Congrats to all NJAC winners!
This will be my second season watching KU and I just found out this website existed.
My son plays for KU.  And I can say one thing that is drastically different then what I saw from a year ago, we have playmakers on both sides of the ball.  A little suspect up front on the O line and played some young kids on the Dline; but much improved personnel.  The defense looked solid for 3 1/2 quarters.  Forcing 5 or 6 turnovers and recording 5 or 6 sacks.  And changing the field position  quite often.  And stopped USMMA twice on 4 th down and late in the game we had them backed up on the 20.  4th down and 5-6 their QB throws an incomplete pass and our young FR. DE gets a Personnal foul for roughing the QB and gives them a new series.  At this point the score was 21-6 with about 4 minutes left.  As you can tell my son plays Defense. lol  We had to make it interseting and let up a late TD and scare late in the game.  But we won and right now that is all that matters.  The defense was running all over the place and very physical.  The looked good out there yesterday.  The score should of...I know could/should/would'a of been higher --- the O didn't take advanyage of the turnovers and field position.
Another positive was the O did not turn the ball over and the defense caused a bunch.
Roque looks more poised out there; not rushing his throws or more importantly taking huge losses on sacks.  Only sacked 2 or 3 times yesterday.  But the WR core has some size/speed and it showed.  Helping out AJ and giving him more confidence.
Well I hope to be on board here for at least the next 3 years.

Welcome YC!  Not too many Kean fans onboard, so you will be a great addition to pick your thoughts on what is going on with the team.

I really like AJ Roque.  That kid is a gamer.  Check out my website (link below) which covers Cortland State, and the NJAC.  I'll be in your neck of the woods in a few short weeks.  Should be a good game, as it looks like everybody in the NJAC could be competitive this season.

YC:

I echo Dan's thoughts -- it's very good to have you aboard.

There aren't many Kean fans on these boards so share us with your friends. :)

Just surfing during lunch and came across the Massey Ratings. For the NJAC :

Rowan-------------23
Cortland-----------46
TCNJ---------------85
W.Conn------------87
Montclair-----------95
Willy P-------------149
Kean---------------151

Rowan and Cortland are the top dogs. Rowan with a bye and Cortland vs TCNJ. WOW 2 tough ones out of the box for TCNJ.

Speaking of TCNJ, where are you Phil ?

Hope I can improve in my picks this week, I'm interested to see how we all did. My Red Hawks and Bridgewater killed me.

There's no way you can look at the Massey Ratings so early, it has Utica ranked over St Johns....give it a few weeks and then post how the schools are ranked.

I must say as we move into the second week of the season its pretty quiet in here. Nice to see a Kean fan aboard, now if we can just get some fans from West Conn and Willy P we'd be all set. Haven't seen any sightings of TCNJ and Phil either since the spring/early summer.

No surprise in the Massey ratings at least for the NJAC but E8 fan's right...its still the second week of the season, very early. I think outside of Rowan and Cortland, it appears the rest of the conference may be a dogfight. I think we'll know more after this weekend's two conference games with Cortland at TCNJ and Paterson traveling up to the WAC to play West Conn. TCNJ scares me because they played so poorly on offense last week (-24 rush yards total) and will probably be rilled up to turn things around. Plus, TCNJ's had Cortland's number of the last few yrs and Lions Stadium isn't somewhere Cortland traditionally plays well. Though, I do like the combination of Cortland's great run defense against a run game that got pummelled last week. Seven fumbles and five of them lost by TCNJ doesn't help the Lions.

West Conn against Paterson may turn into a shootout just because the Colonials defense has always been suspect and Paterson could have some momentum behind them after the win over a struggling Wilkes program last Saturday in Wayne. Mike Yackanin one of their top receivers last yr is now the QB so so long to Cristobal Rodriguez. And Kareen Moon is one of the well kept secrets of the conference. Though, Sheperis and Gonzales outside of Wright and Silva are the best receiver combination in the league.

I don't want to get ahead of my self since Salisbury will have  tough trips to Brockport, and CNU, but I'm looking forward to the Gulls/Red Hawks game in the "Bury.

I agree, although some ratings systems "seed" the teams with their previous power rating from the end of last season.  Those that do are the best to look at early on.  I am experimenting with my rating system, and think I will seed with last year's numbers, but I have testing to do.

Hi Everyone,

I realize that it is early with the Massey Ratings, but this board like John said was getting a little quiet and I thought this would stimulate a little conversation. I guess it worked. :)
