Weather going to play a major role in tomorrow's Wesley/Montclair game.  If the forecast holds they are calling for 1 - 2 inches of rain with 40 - 50 mph wind gusts.  Does not make for much of a game for the offense or special teams, and certainly not a fun game to watch in person.
Getting ready to head that way now... yikes!  :P

So..... Let me preface this post with the fact that I realize that Wesley's postseason chances are virtually nil, but what would need to happen in order for Wesley to somehow, someway make the postseason?

Say they win out. I know they need help (and a lot of it) from the rest of the nation. Has an 8-2 team ever snagged a Pool C?

Waterboy, the regional rankings will be interesting this week.  They will tell if Wesley has a chance.  They need to be ranked and ahead of Ithaca.  If Salisbury loses to both Wesley and Frostburg, Cortland loses to Brockport, Ithaca may lose to either Hobart or Cortland, Wesley winning out may get them to the top of the east board at the start of the poll C discussion.  If that is the case they will probably not be passed over 5 times and get in.  They will have a RR win over DelVal and maybe Salisbury, not likely to stay in if they lose twice, and a loss to Frostburg.  1-1 RR is good.  I figure the SOS will be around 500 so they may get in.  Need a lot of stuff to go their way, but you never know.

I can dig in a little more on this later tonight after I do a little homework, but wd is on the right track.  First step is to find the dominoes that need to fall in order for Wesley to be at the top of this region's at-large list.  Being first in line is 85% of the game.  Then you can branch out and see what's going on in other regions or what you want to be rooting for in other regions.

I think Wesley's SOS should end up north of .500 because DVC is a huge helper.  I'd guess somewhere between 0.520 and 0.530 at the close of business on 11/10, which is really about as good as you can do with just one OOC game.
So they aren't out yet.... that is slightly encouraging. Need to take care of business the rest of the way. Based on what I've seen from the ERFP results, the east is up to interpretation this season. Just hope that interpretation goes in favor of Wesley.

wesleydad,

Looking at the forecast looks like the wind will be there around gametime. Rain will be Friday overnight and into Saturday morning.

Today will be crappiest day possible for a Wesley rebound game.  It will be wet, windy and cold to say the least.  I am not looking forward to this one on so many different levels.  The last time Wesley lost back to back games was in 2003.  I am hoping that history doesn't repeat itself today.  Wesley is going to have to protect that ball and in the wet, and the Wolverines well.....lets say that I am concerned.  Any possible chance to get into the playoffs requires Wesley to win out, Salisbury to lose against both Wesley and Frostburg, another Rowan loss and a whole lotta losing elsewhere......

Forecast seems to show that the rain will clear out around noon. It'll still be cold and windy however. Hopefully the fact that it is Homecoming gives Wesley and additional boost as it seemed to give Rowan last week.

Yes, rain has stopped in SE Pa.  still windy and raw out there.  I will be watching on the computer, wedding to attend later.

Ice Bear

Rowan getting taken to the woodshed by Salisbury so far. From what DB watched Profs have been completely bottled up on both sides of the ball. Gulls look pretty good.
A long time fan of DIII Football!

Good effort by the defense so far. Burroughs having difficulty completing anything downfield. Missing guys. INT was high off the TEs hand.

MRMIKESMITH

Fumble by Wesley on the 1 yard line, this appears to happen every week for them...close game Montclair up 10-9...

MRMIKESMITH

Big runs by EJ Lee, Wesley driving...

MRMIKESMITH

Wow.... :o Missed FG...Montclair still up 10-9, both defenses are playing great...

wesleydad

Another bad loss.  Too many kicking issues.  Defense cant get off the field when needed.  The offense seems to have no flow to it.  Third loss due to a missed extra point, compounded by a missed 23 yard field goal that did not look close on the computer.  What could have been if someone just made a play.  Fumble on the 1 yard line added to the misery.  No excuses, just did not get it done.

Teamski

I have Never, ever, ever left a football game as utterly pissed off as I was today.  I had to really bite my lip not let out a string of profanities that would have had me arrested.   I am still in cool down, so I have to be careful what I type, but I am pissed!  Seriously.  Another one point loss the difference of a missed PAT and it was ALL avoidable.  The defense was perfect.  They played their game and the offense and special teams didn't.  I told the guy next to me at halftime that I was sure that Wesley was going to lose by a single point.  And sure enough they did.  Outrageous instances that lost the game for Wesley:

1.  4th Quarter:  Wesley stops Montclair short of the endzone.  4th down.  Montclair misses the field goal however Wesley jumps off side and boom, 1st and goal.  Result:  TD.

2.  Wesley drives right down the field trailing 10-9.  Beautiful.  They even get a pass interception in the endzone.  They have the ball on the 1 yard line and is ready to go up by a TD (with a 2 point conversion of course).  No problem right?  Nope, the QB fumbles the ball and Montclair recovers it at the 2.

3.  Finally, Wesley gets the ball back and misses their last chance, a missed 23 yard field goal with 3:06 left in the game and the rest is repeated history.

I hope that Wesley will start another QB to get him ready for next season.  Nuff sed about that.  So Wesley drops consecutive games for the first time in 15 years......

I have basically been pretty quiet this year. Everyone knows I'm a big Montclair Homer. I have never played completive Football but have played College Soccer when the dinosaurs roamed in the early 70's. I have been really disappointed in my Red Hawks the past 5 years or so. Nuf said. I think we were picked to win 3-4 games this year. I'm also very superstitious and OCD.  I hoped we could maybe win 5-6 games this year if lucky. I was at our 1st 2 games and said not so bad with the exception of big penalty minutes. Lost to Salisbury by 3 and Frostburg by 7 with a late TD pass towards the end of the game. If the Queen had balls she would be the King. The penalty minutes came down and we beat Wesley 10-9 today and are 6-2 and should finish 8-2 if we stay the course. I will put Montclair as #7 in my ERFP tomorrow when I vote. That being said we will not make the Dance, but we have definitely come together as a team and not a bunch of individuals. The future looks good. I'm proud of my Red Hawks and of course "Keep Pounding".
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Salisbury played its best game today at Rowan. The Defense turned up the heat all day and didn't allow anything. The offense finally looked dominate. I would say that Salisbury needs to get better on Kickoff coverage, almost allowed 2 tds, the last one didn't think the returner was going to come out. Would have loved to see a shutout after have two redzone stands after those big returns and a fumble inside out own 30. The FB runs really opened everything up this week. The defense continues to improve, I can't say that enough. Shockingly, there is still room from improvement for this team.

Montclair reminds me up FSU three years ago. They've built a very competitive team and hopefully they can continue the trend into the future.
