Wesley's defense salvaged the first half with two key interceptions that kept Wesley from going down 21-7.  Burroughs came back into the game and the offense closed out the half with a TD.  Flat play for sure.  Another example where turnovers are killing the Wolverines.

The Westminster announcers scared me in the first half by stating of all things, that Frostburg State lost to Western New England 37-10 (or there abouts).  They even mentioned that 'Wesley fans will be happy about that.'   I rushed over to D3F to see what the hell they were talking about and Frostburg was up 14-10.  It must have been a hoax or something like that.  Weird.  No, Wesley fans would NOT be happy with a first round bow out by Frostburg State!

A complete pass to a defender by Burroughs with the ball returned deep into Wesley territory..... a couple plays later, Westminster goes up 21-14.  A microcosm of the season..... Two interceptions and 1 fumble by Burroughs so far......

Wesley's Defense is saving the day.  4 interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Well Wesley pulls it off 42-34 over Westminster.  Wesley won this game because they won the turnover war.  Wesley had 4 turnovers for the game vs 5 for Westminster.  I am relieved to see Wesley close out the season with a win.  Not a pretty one, but a win nonetheless.  Congrads to the Wesley players and coaches for not giving in after some really sour turnovers earlier in the game.  The Wesley secondary did give up some big plays, but they ripped off 4 interceptions that really changed the course of the game.  Onto next year.

Good luck to Frostburg next week.  I wish we could have swept the day alas Salisbury didn't get it done against Alfred which looks to me a let down game after last week's loss.

Back from Westminster. Good to see the Wolverines end the season on a high note. 7-4 looks a lot better than 6-5.

Not too pretty of a game but, Wesley's offense was able to get back to its high powered self, putting up 42 points (even with 4 turnovers). After they scored the gap touchdown, I think that was pretty much the game. I wasn't too concerned, even though Westminster would draw within 8.

For as much crap as Burroughs was given this season, it was nice to see him make some big plays in this game... and man, I'm going to miss Cappadonna Miller. Always one of those guys who, you can tell, is having fun all the time out there.

I'm not going to use that as an excuse, but Salisbury are what we are. You live a die by the option and when you can't do that, same old story. There is a reason why we only beat Wesley once in the last decade or so. Over the year's I've come to the understanding that even when we have the talent offensively, it will not be enough to win the BIG games against equal or better talent. It only gets you but so far. I think the current administration are pleased with being good and would rather be a consistent .700 or above team rather than the year's prior to the implementing the option when we were below .500.  At this point you have to be 100% committed or not at all. So this re-run from the last 10 year's is a common theme. Yes, I'll get my hopes up and say we have a chance to win some games, but I know that in any game we have a chance to lose it because of the option and its characteristics. Salisbury could not have ask for a better defense this year. Even though Salisbury has a good amount of the team as a whole coming back next year, it is going to be the same theme unless there is a coaching change or coordinators step up and decide to do more.

I thought Salisbury could make a run in the playoffs, losing to Wesley killed their chances. It would have been nice to put two from the conference into the tourney, especially if Frostburg was put in one bracket, and Salisbury in another.

JT2,

I'm not sure how that draw would have happened. It would have resulted in one of the two teams most likely playing a road game in the 2nd round. As I aforementioned, I think we could have made some noise, but at the end of the day, Salisbury was going to be Salisbury and I'm not sure which team/coordinator would show up. Looking back at the season, the option was only effective against 1 or 2 teams (Frostburg and maybe CNU) with a winning record. Otherwise the defense was at the Volition of offense and having to get a shutout each game. However, when your offense can't sustain drives, it wears on a team, especially against good competition. I will continue to root for them like no other, but just being a realist at this point regarding our ceiling, if we had made the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprise if we loss 1st round or made it to 3rd.

Well, well, well... not many here would remember JT 1.0. Welcome back JT. It's been a while. The old NJAC just ain't what it used to be... I miss the days of Jersey City State games; Ramapo breaking every NCAA rule in the book; and the biggest game of the year either being Trenton State v. Glassboro, Trenton State v. Montclair, or Glassboro v. Montclair. But time marches on... as does my retreating hairline.

Phil:

I have a collection of D3 paraphernalia in my office including the football from the TCNJ/Montclair State game where we met. :)

The good ol' days of TCNJ football, Gordon! I've got an honorary varsity "T" letter in my office. I remember taking the bus up to Ithaca College for the Lions' first NCAA playoff appearance in 1990. When I left my place the temp was in the upper 50°s – which is what I dressed for. By the time the first quarter was over in Ithaca it was snowing lightly. Since I hated sitting down low and struggling to see the game, I sat on Ithaca's side of the field – around the 50 yard line at the top of the bleachers. An older couple took pity on me, since I had been shivering for much of the first quarter, and shared their blanket and an umbrella. The three of us talked the entire game – which Trenton State won. Turned out that the couple I sat with were the President of Ithaca College and his wife. Considering I live about an hour+ from Texas A&M and in Big 12/SEC country now, I know that it's only in DIII where I could have possibly had an experience like I did that day in Ithaca. One of my favorite football memories...
