Fun NJAC trivia fact:

Wesley started its football program in 1986.
That was their first season as D3 school. Previously they had been a junior college in the same league as schools like Chowan, Ferrum and Potomac State. The first season I saw record of when I was SID/coach was 1952 or 1953. They sent quite a few players to D1 schools at back in the day from both their football and basketball programs.

Ahh thanks.  Just saw the d3 record book and noticed they started at 1986...

Well I had a great time on the field with the Seniors and the other parents and at the post game game party. Thank you to all the Seniors.
Also congratulations to the team for making it back to the playoffs after a down year last year.
Now about the QBs, I just have a feeling Mullin will start Saturday, just my opinion. The players and coaches spoke very highly of Fry, he's definitely the future of Wesley but right now he's also still learning. Like that 20 yard TD pass to Simpson. I asked about that play because I said it looked like both receivers were going to collide with each other in the endzone Simpson said he just ran underneath the ball and came down with it. While it was a TD it was the wrong read, Simpson just made the adjustment in his route. This is the learning phase for Fry but then on the other hand he throws a 49 yd TD pass to Simpson and does everything right. In the playoffs we won't be facing TCNJ, CNU or Willie P so do we go with Freshman that's still learning or with Mullin and Morroco and hope they can move the ball ??
I prefer Fry based on what I saw yesterday. Man can sling it. He made throws that neither Mullin or Marrocco can make. He also showed some good judgement in pulling down and running for a first down on one occasion. Also something we have not seen in 10 weeks. Which touchdown are you referring to? The 49 yard pass had Simpson and Peele right next to each other. Fry rolled out on the 20 yarder and seemed to hit Simpson right where he wanted him.  I dont think that was a bad read at least from what it seemed.
Got my plays crossed. My mistake. It was on the 49 yd TD pass. The main receiver on that play was Simpson but he was supposed to run a fly route and cut out but when he turned his head he saw where the ball was heading and stayed underneath it which was the reason for him and Peele almost colliding. Even Coach Azz joined the conversation and told Simpson joking around...I said go out...out..out. We all laughed about it but again these are the little things Fry will understand with more reps.
Gotcha... either way that was a bomb. Itll come down to who the coaches think will give Wesley the best chance to win. If there is one position that Wesley handles well, it is the Quarterback position. The coaches will make the right call on Saturday, whether its Mullin, Marrocco or Fry, to give all those guys who've done all the reps at practice and lifted all the weights in the offseason the best chance to advance as a team.

Both QBs played really well yesterday, but that was CNU. I worry that the offense gets to stagnant with Mullin. They just have long stretches where nothing happens and that gets frustrating. Can't have that happen if they want to win any games moving forward.

If Mullin starts and Morrocco is to dingred to play then that moves Fry moves into the no. 2 spot.. In that scenario I could see Fry going in if things aren't going well. But there has been a time or two that freshmen have been given the reins if the coaches thought they were read

Fry played.very well. He certainly zipped a few and the turned around and put some air under a few others. He did throw one pass into the endzone that almost got picked by the safety he didn't see coming across from the opposite side of his intended target.

Not that I think it would matter, but it appears that weather will not be cooperating with Salisbury this weekend as there is a 70% chance of rain this upcoming weekend. Light Rain early afternoon and becoming heavier as we head into the evening. Good thing the game starts at Noon.

Early Scouting report: SUNY-Maritime helms from a conference that typically performs poorly against many of the other regional conferences. They were officially the "runner-up" within their conference and will be coming in with a 5-5 record, recently beating a formerly 7-2 MSJ team. Looking at the schedule, SUNY-Maritime and Salisbury share a common opponent in William Patterson. Salisbury recently beat WP 42-13, while WP beat SUNY-Maritime 35-0, I'm not the one to use the metric of common opponent to heavily, but in this case, I expect Salisbury to win this game easily, somewhere in the range of 66 to 7. I don't expect the first string players to play after halftime. I expect the defense to work on some of the varying blitz packages as SUNY-Maritime runs a spread option out of the gun. My expectation is that SUNY-Maritime will try to run a lot of RPO plays and defensively expect them to have 8 to 9 people in the box to try to stop the run and play man-to-man on the outside. I don't think SUNY-Maritime have the athletes or grunts on either side of ball to make this a game. Salisbury should be able to run basic plays and win the game, but should mix in some exotic formations and run out of those in preparation of following week. First thing first is to take care of SUNY-Maritime and try to avoid any injuries. Good Luck to everyone and safe travels to anyone planning to attend.

I'd expect Salisbury backups in here before halftime. Gonna be a bloodbath. 2nd and 3rd stringers have a good chance of getting into the post season statistics.

MAN, the weather will have no impact on a 1200 start time.  Salisbury should run it up early and then play the back ups the second half.  Issue there will be the shorter roster only allows for so many players so the game may really get ugly.

Great preview. I agree, I see Salisbury winning easily. Hoping the gulls pass this round with no injuries.

Quick observations on the Wesley-Framingham Game: Their only common opponent is Endicott at the beginning of the season. Wesley beat Endicott 20-17 and Framingham lost 55-27. Can't put too much stock into this because it was the beginning of the year for both teams. Wesley's running game has improved as the season has progressed, and the defense has been exceptional all year aside from the Salisbury game. I am hoping the good version of Wesley shows up and they can win the game by 2-3 touchdowns. If Framingham is allowed to stick around in the game, that will be a significant cause for concern. The offense will have to score enough. Consistency has not been the strength of the offense all season. I think who plays QB will matter on Saturday.

I think the Wolverines and Skyrats will win by comfortable margins this weekend!

Lol!  A little hostility towards our friends from Maryland?  Hehehe..... Wesley should have this game in hand IF they put their playoff helmets on.  If anything, Wesley does a decent job of focusing when it comes to the playoffs.....except that somebody always brings the kyptonite to the Mount Union games it seems.  Joe Callahan almost withstood it's power by throwing chunks of it at the MU secondary with 8 TD passes and over 600 yards of passing.

That Endicott game had all the makings of an upset for Wesley. 3rd straight game on the road right after the huge win at Del Val that went in to 4 OTs. The Salisbury game was 3 weeks away but I remember players talking about that game like it was the next one on the schedule. I'm thinking to myself, you have a bye week, then Rowan at home followed by the game at Salisbury but before any of those games they still had to play this one and when Endicott jumped out to a 14 -0 lead I was like here we go, their heads aren't in this game. Not taking anything away from Endicott but Wesley really was not focused on that game at all.

Wesley was down 17-0 at the half.  It wasn't looking good.

Drew Fry has been named the starting QB for Saturday. I just have a feeling that this kid is gonna light it up.

The right move here. Time to thank the hard work, then pass the torch.
