Pat,

Not for nothing, but I think that you editing my message, which was intended, not as slander, but as humor, was completely unfounded.  This for one, is a message board, and my views or opinions, for what they are worth, should be allowed for all to see.

With our first amendment rights, and this not being a communist country, I think your George Orwell, 1984 - Big brother editing of my post was unjustified.

I am a PROF fan, and if I make jokes or comments about an old coach from my school, they should not be edited to your liking.

This post pattern forum, not just the east region, constantly has posters posting theirs views, and opinions, not necessarily based on facts, and I feel that my comments were removed unjustly.

Tough. There's a Terms of Service for a reason. If your posts stay within them they will not be edited. End of story.

Please read the text of the first amendment and tell me how it applies to this site. If so, I look forward to the congressional salary which apparently I have been unjustly denied all these years.

Regardless of how you intended your post to come across, there will be people who don't see that and will assume you meant malice.

Interesting article about Major League Soccer building a stadium in the 'Boro.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/mls/2006-03-16-rowan_x.htm

http://www.nj.com/news/gloucester/index.ssf?/base/news-1/1142586993179950.xml&coll=8

Will this have any effect upon the Profs Football Team?  A 20k+ attendance stadium would allow the move to 1-AA would it not?

One article says it is soccer specific, but the other says that it will be for the use of other sports besides soccer.....

Quote"It will be of interest to people across the country because it's a new model for state colleges and how they have to pursue public-private ventures," Cardona said.

Ummmm, somebody please inform Mr. Cardona that schools like Montclair have a number of years under their belt with this "model" as they host the Yogi Berra Museum and a minor league baseball team from the CanAm League. Camden has minor league baseball as well. This "model" is simply a way to generate a revenue stream while creating a top notch venue and recruiting tool for the college. On a smaller scale the athletic centers at Stockton and Paterson do the same thing. TCNJ's athletic complex plays host to the majority of NJSIAA soccer and football playoffs as does its Aquatic center for swimming. So this is hardly a new model. State colleges realized long ago that they could create excellent facilities if they are multipurpose and generate revenue from outside the college community.

As for Rowan having a grander plan to move to 1AA ... I wouldn't be surprised, but I wouldn't hold my breath either. As I said above, the creation of facilities like this are becoming more the norm as state schools move to upgrade or replace their athletic facilities. If they're smart they'll do what Rowan, Montclair and others have done/are doing. Make a multipurpose facility that generates income from multiple sources and you generate recruits, income and positive PR about the college campus. It's a no-brainer.

Now we have several rumors to address about the future of the NJAC. Montclair and Rowan might want to move towards 1AA as both want to almost double their student bodies – while TCNJ has been rumored to be talking with the MAC about a move. It would be hard to imagine an NJAC minus Rowan, Montclair and TCNJ – the core members of the original conference.

Phil,

Cardona was the President of the SGA when I went there.  He's was quite a bureaucrat then.  We used to call him Mr. Soundbite.  It always sounds really good.

However, the stadium would be nice deal.  Can all the sports make that kind of move up?

I'm kinda sentimental... I like DIII.  Jeez we'd be competing with KC for recruits.   ;)

Knightstalker

There have been grumblings coming out of Ramapo about moving up to D-II or D-I for a few years also.  I think that may be part of the reason for the Bradley Center.  NJIT has now moved to D-I.

Montclair State has hit an all time low. Read the front page of the MSU web site : Montclair State Discontinues Wrestling for 2006-2007.

Well done Gerra and Pennington, you guys also hit an all time low!!!!!!!!

I can't wait for someone from MSU to call me for $$$.

This is the biggest bunch of CRAP I have ever seen.

Hello : Wonder why the fan support SUCKS ?????????????

Hey Phil : What do you think of this one ???????????

Can't wait to see the new turf on Sam Mills Field this year. Yea Right !!!

I'm too angry to continue.
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Dave,
Go to the top of the page in the NJAC basketball room and you'll see my reaction. I posted the morning I read it in the Ledger. You got the sanitized version from the MSU website – there was an article that spoke of athletes jumping ship because of an inept new coach, lawsuits and finger-pointing. There's a lot of happy horseshot going on in upper Montclair. The hilarious thing is that they financed an athletic team with donations that amounted to several hundred thousand dollars ... for a sport that takes 15k per year to run. Maybe an official at Red Hawk central might go on record and tell us where the balance of the donations were redirected. As I suggested previously, they should take the 200 grand and put a PR firm on retainer. Lord knows they need it.

JT

If I was that guy who donated 50K, I'd want it back.

phil

If I were donating 50k I'd have the University sign papers which stipulate how the money could be used – including a full refund should the college decide to kill the program within a couple years of the donation. If this guy didn't do this – shame on him.

Henry Rowan was a real pro when it came to drawing up ways that limited the use of his 100 million at Rowanboro State.

patcummings

Well...the Rowan master plan gets more detailed...

A $1 billion complex...including a 10,000 seat football stadium

Seems lofty...to the point of confusion.

QuoteWhile Rowan is seeking a builder, MLS will spend the next four months searching for a team owner.

The 20,000-seat stadium will not be built if a team owner cannot be found, Cardona said. If the stadium is not built, the Rowan West project will go forward on a much smaller scale.

Two schools of thought:
1. LOL finding an owner to locate in the 'boro (can you say "proven track record")? This will not help revitalize downtown Glassboro. Remember the Garden State Race Track? Glassboro is not Hoboken and Camden isn't even Newark.
2. South Jersey legislators have been "pining" (no pun intended to the locals) for the state to help build showcase facilities of this kind in their backyard for ages. They've gone so far as to tie up legislation and promise "Yes" votes for other proposals in return for help in getting projects like this done. This might finally be "THE ONE". Unfortunately I didn't see a convention center included in this plan.

At any rate, it should be interesting to see this play out. It's good PR for Rowan and could be quite a venue if they can find the investor in four months (big "if"). I just can't see the local Glassboro businessmen rallying around a plan to build a small city away from THEIR small city.

Even if they don't find the MLS investor, they have done a shrewd job in creating a buzz and positive PR for the college. If anyone from Montclair State's crack administration is reading this, you need to take notes. This is "HOW" you do it.

gobombers

Looks like their highest attendance for Football was against TCNJ last year, a little over 5800.  'Boro fans, can you get 10k fans to a Prof game?

Also, is the MLS stadium even feasible from Philly?  I don't know the area very well, and was wondering if it is tough to get from Philly to the 'Boro.

Knightstalker

And if they do attract a buyer for an MLS team how much do you want to bet that NJ will again be shown a total lack of respect and the team will be the Philadelphia whatevers.
