Random d3 alumni of the day.........
"Ian Ziering, a native of West Orange, New Jersey, resides in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of William Paterson College in Wayne, New Jersey"

...I went to high school with him. Other West Orange notables are David Cassidy, Amos Alonzo Stagg (went to school with his Great Grand Daughter) and Thomas Alva Edison.

Did she occasionally wax nostalgic about the single-wing formation?  :P

I actually know of a Prep School in Central NJ, Lawrenceville Prep, that still runs the Single Wing.  They played my daughter's prep school, and my wife said, "where is the qb"??

I just did some leg work for coach Acorsi, two D2 schools within driving distance are lookg for games.  Coach, if you read the board.. the following is for you!

In re: the Lawrenceville School, they haven't run the single wing since the 90's when the late Ken Keuffel was the coach. It worked for a while, but then the program declined because they couldn't attract the studs anymore. They're good again now. In re:TCNJ applying to the MAC, I was told in March by a person who would know, that it was old news and that there is no truth to it. So, unless he lied or changed his mind in the last couple of weeks...it ain't happening.

K+1 to Utah for the Ziering fact.  Who knew!

I think we need to get a hoops match-up between Drew and WPUNJ at which James Vanderbeek and Ian do the ceremonial jump ball.  We could call it the Pretty Boy Classic.

OK but what sort of "studs" couldn't they "attract ... anymore"?

Long snappers? Tailbacks who could run, throw, and kick? Wingbacks who could block? Backs who didn't mind sharing the ball with one or two others?

What?

Please clarify ....

Warren,
It costs 35k per year to attend the Princeton of Prep schools, so it's going to take some dang good recruiting and special admissions to fill out the skill positions on Lawrenceville's football team. Enrollment is 800 and SATs average 1350. A thriving football program obviously takes a bit of work under those conditions – and the current team is certainly competitive! On the other hand, their squash team has won three straight national titles.

Famous alums (no football players – just an ex-pres, some NBA talent and a handful of Nobel winners) include:

Phil, as I scrolled down you list of famous alums, I was pretty unimpressed and disapointed untill I saw Huey Lewis on there.  Ive never heard of any of those other guys......

phil

Yeah, but Huey Lewis is old news (rimshot).  ;)

In looking at the D3 homepage, does anyone have any news on Sakeen Wright as to what NFL teams are looking at him, also what about Phil Silva, I think that a NFL team would look at him as well.

On another note, I was reading the NWC board and one of their posters has a picture of their field that says something to the effect that they beat Rowan 100% of the time.  All I can say to that is WOW.  One National Championship, and they got spanked last year early in the playoffs, and that is their claim to fame, that they beat Rowan two years ago.

If you want to talk about the past and not move forward... If, and it's a big if... If Rowan didn't lose their All American Defensive end, QB, starting tailback, and WR Jon Berry in the preseason, the PROFS probably would have been wearing a ring as well right now.  Look how the batter Prof team represented last year without those star players.

I hope that Rowan has the opportunity to play Linfield again, as I think those posters are rather comical and the friendly ribbing is always entertaining, but just one word of wisdom, beating Rowan two years ago, won't get you any closer to another Championship this year.

You don't see the UW-Whitewater poster's bragging that they tamed the big bad kitty.  Stop scratching in the litter box Linfield, I think that the fumes are getting to you!

Pat Coleman

I know he has an agent, the same one that the Hobart lineman had last year that got him a deal with the Giants.

Both Silva and Wright are very raw as WR's go with regard to the next level.  If someone is willing to spend the time and coach them, I could see them get a shot in camp or NFL Europe.  Wright could even bulk up and be an effective H-back or TE.

4merprof

JT,

I agree with your opinions on Wright and Silva, but hope that they will both at least get a chance to dance.  It would be wonderful to have both of them back this year.  Hopefully Rowan will get some either WR recruits or transfers, because that seems to be the only position that they are truely lacking in.  The loss of Wright, Silva, Berry, and the Stys brothers, definitely will hurt the WR core.  We went from a program with extreme depth at that position, to trying to find 3-4 starters.

The defense will be strong again and with the return of Orihel and Encarnacion, and the majority of the OL, the offense should put up some numbers.  However, with the D returning, the O shouldn't have to put up 40 per game.

Also, since you seem to be in the know, any word on the outlook for the 2006 Profs?

And another question for Pat or Gordon, any idea as to when the preseason picks as well as outlooks will be out.

Another season is rapidly approaching and the Prof faithful are eager to get it on!
