I did some digging...  It appears that the AD is a long time friend of the outgoing head coach.  So it is highly unlikely he was at the bottom of the firing.  The president has his hands full with expansion to China and rarely gets involved with sports, so it must be a VP that is wielding the axe.

The team will be improved this coming year with many returners.  The program has steadily become competitive during this coaches tenure.  He was due for a three year contract at the end of next season.  Whoever wanted him out wanted himout before the 3-year contract and before they had a good season.

The DC is a VERY good coach.  But clearly he is not the one pulling the strings (nor is the AD).   It is suspicious they fired the HC without a press release or any announcement.  Also, there is no one on the current staff that is ready run an offense (Raciopi left).  Even if he came back he is real young.

Definately some funny stuff going on.  New Ass. AD whose hiring upset the women coaches.  Head basketball and Football coach let go without any press releases.   Track coach being left in limbo. Is this a job that anyone would want?

Considering the time of the year, there's still plenty of opportunity for returning players and recruits to attend Montclair or Paterson and bypass the program which puts the "D" in dysfunction.

A team which had much promise a couple years ago has seemingly just taken a four-year step backwards.

...can't wait to hear the facts behind this.

Phil,

Facts?  Coach C won't turn up anywhere else (he is 65 years old).  Garrett is too ambitious and worried about his career to admit what happened.  The AD is too scared of his boss.  I am sure they will  keep us in the dark about this one.   Too bad for the players.   The "facts" will never come out about this one.

He might be snapped right back up by Montclair.

I read that and actually considered writing a response.

The Ledger likes to think of themselves as a great little newspaper that can uncover dirt in these Sunday "investigative" pieces. The fact is they're no NY Times, and quite full of themselves.

All that need be known about this subject is that New Jersey is the most expensive place to live – and that the presidents of NJ public colleges are making under the national average of their peers. Case closed.

If you want a bunch of average, cookie-cutter colleges catering only to the regions of the state where each school is located, lets turn back the clock to the '70's and early '80's; cut some salaries, hire some presidents with little to no experience because that's all that can be afforded, and watch as these schools slide back into mediocrity.

How 'bout we have a hearing into how much it costs the taxpayer for the state to call the presidents onto the carpet to justify their existence. Better yet, let's have a hearing into how much it costs to have a hearing.

...and if you want a real skewed perspective (as the Ledger got), just ask a tenured, union member/professor what they think of the salaries these presidents get (as the Ledger did).

...and we wonder why some of our best and brightest leave the state!

Knightstalker

I have recently been thinking that schools need to split duties for presidents, sort of like having a CEO and COO.  If the schools want to cut costs they should get some of these professors that are only allowed to teach core courses because they have been around so long and are tenured and don't want to work anymore.  I had a few of them at NJCU, there seemed to be a couple in each department.

JT:

I agree with you that RU will/should be a Top 10 team this year.....more like Top 5.  I wouldn't worry too much about replacement WRs.  Accorsi can look down the roster and figure out where the holes are.  RU also has some promising receivers coming back.  If everybody stays healthy, it should be a lot of fun! ;)  Oh, by the way, Willy P better buckle their chinstraps when the visit the 'boro this year.  I really doubt that there will be the wild celebrations of last year.

UpBRE:

I know that DelVal is basically an agricultural school but, for God's sake, stay aware from the fertilizer.  Its affecting your judgement.  DelVal should be a good team this year but tell them not to make a lot of travel plans.  A  great high school QB does not always make a great college QB ....especially when facing defenses like the one that RU will be throwing at him.

I really don't have anything bad to say about DelVal (except that finally they are turning that pasture into a football field).  However, with Mike Orihel back (heard he's throwing great and is bigger, stronger and quicker than last year), Encarnacion back and almost all of a very strong defense back  ....add in what is considered an excellent recruiting class ..... and the opposition (DelVal or others)  will have a bit to consider when game planning.  Hopefully DelVal and RU will get to the playoffs so we can settle the debate.

Speaking of those whom you would like to meet in the playoffs,  I'd love to see Linfield and/or Mt. Union again .... there seems to be some pay-back due! 8)

RU Fan,

Long time without any posts!  It is always good to have another Prof supporter on the board, especially one with as much negative Karma as you have.  I don't think that the Prof posters get a lot of love on these boards.  I don't even know how one gets or gives karma, as I know mine is negative as well.

I definitely have to agree with your outlook, and like I've previously posted, this year should be interesting, to say the very least.  Now, usually I'm an offensive type of guy, but the Prof's defense last year was extremely impressive how they stepped it up in the playoffs to compensate for a weak offensive threat.  I'm probably as excited to having almost the entire starting defense back as I am Orihel.  The defense deserves the credit for carrying the Profs as far as they went last year and coach Hendrick's definitely came into his own with the "D".  That was probably the best defense the Prof's have had since Hendrick's was playing LB.

It's also nice to see how the program has changed since Keeler's tenure.  No longer on the first game of the season, do you have to look at the roster and find out who is wearing what number, and where they came from.  It's finally nice to see a nucleus of returning players that have grown up through the program.  I definitely feel like there is a more sence of team and pride considering these guys have had their fortitude tested in prior years and believe in one another year in and year out.  That sort of chemistry can't be obtained from one year players.

Now I'm not saying that I don't like transfers, because I would loved to have two D-I transfers as WR's this year, as I put that on my Santa list, but something definitely has to be said for Acorsi, changing the complexion of the Rowan program, while still keeping it's winning tradition.  We are no longer transfer U.

That being said, I look forward to the upcoming season, and I've saved a lot of my personal days for late November and December.  The road to Salem starts September 2nd.

PBR...

ru fan alas we really used to be an ag school. by far and large now the student body is comprised of business majors. the family farms are closing up and selling out you cant make much money farming anymore, with rowan being in the pine barrens i figured you would know that... ;D   lets meet again in the playoffs that would be a blast although it will be interesting to see how good linfield is this year with losing elliott at qb. mt. union will always be solid but i am not so sure about linfield.

4merprof

Up Beer,

i'm sure that your response will get a lot of reponses from the Linfield faithful!!! ;D

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

As long as the defense stays healthy, and with the return of some key offensive players, us Rowan faithful may be on the verge of witnessing a very special season.  It could be one for the history books.

rowanlb92:

I agree with you.  If the "D" can force a bunch of 3 and outs and get the ball back for Orihel and the offense, you're going to see some big numbers also.

Should be fun ;)

I also agree with 4mer.  Hendricks did a hell of a job last year.  For a young coach, he's proven that he's the real deal!
