Montclair - 27                   Salisbury - 3

Nice win for the young Red Hawks. Montclair deferred to Salisbury and their option looked awsome. They drove without effort, but our D held and they settelled for 3. We started to make adjustments  and at the end of the half it was 7-3. We finailly came out strong in the second half making it 13-7. Our D took over and the O improved. Jump still looks a little uncomfortable, but he is gaining confidence.

Time to get ready for TCNJ and Homecoming. There was a pretty nice crowd there. Maybe 1800 total.

Thanks for the hospitality.  It's too bad Salisbury could only make it a game for the first half.  This was a must win game for both clubs, and the Seagulls came out on the "short end of the stick".  Good luck the rest of the way.

I get another chance to see the Seagulls in NJ again later in the season when they take on the Peacocks of St. Peters in Jersey City.

njlincolnlion,

You are welcome my friend. Good luck to Salisbury the rest of the year. Don't forget to give those Wolverines a game to remember.

Phil,

Saw a pretty good game today. Had a beer and a dog with njlincolnlion. He is a nice guy. Hey, we have two 2-1's facing off next Sat. My wife is threatening to come to the game along with my daughter and her fiance. Let's have a farewell tailgate before you lose your NJ accent. It will be a heck of a game to start both schools NJAC season. Strange things happened in W.Pa. today. ::) Let the NJAC start next weekend. I finailly won a pick-em week, sorry I tied with 4merprof. ;)

Dave,
I'm planning on it! We'll "speak" during the week to firm things up. In all likelyhood it will be my "farewell" NJAC game.

Scheduling TCNJ as your Homecoming game ... ballsy!

rams1102

Phil,

Not ballsy at all. We only have (4) home games. Salisbury game is first and too early. Then TCNJ, Cortland and Rowan. The choice is logical.

Should be fun next Sat, talk to you during the week.

I went to Rowan game, flew in I figured it was better than driving, RMU had a beautiful complex on top of mountain, well to us south jersey guys, it was a mountain, the first half was identical to last years game, only we were down by 7, last year i think we were down by 14 or 21, the must have sacked Oriel a dozen times, I don't know why they left in the game if they weren't willing to make blocking adjustments, the difference with last year was that Rowan year make half time adjustments to pick up the blitz, they were getting to the QB with 4 men but were sending 5-6-7 guys, the defenders all played tight so no one was open for the short pass, last year Rowan used double tight ends to prevent the blitz and it proved successful in the second half, this year when the tight eand was in he was running pass patterns result alot of sacks, the positive side defense played great and Mike O. can take a hit or hits.

Has Robert Morris gone the same route as Monmouth, Central Conn, and Albany?

If so, why is anyone here shocked that Rowan lost?

(I know not of RMU's situation, so please bear with me)

The other schools in the NEC have gone scholarship - up to 30.....Thus, we've seen results like Monmouth over Colgate, C. Conn over Georgia Southern, and Albany over Lehigh and Delaware.

If Robert Morris is anything like those other schools, I think 21-0 is a pretty good result, especially if no one was injured! Rowan will do just fine against everyone else...

Bill,

I put it in my pregame article http://www.rowanfootball.com before I went away for my anniversary weekend.  Robert Morris has added 30 scholarships for 2006.  It is unknown how they were allocated this year.  The primary reason is because no non-scholarship D1-AA program has ever received an at-large bid to the NCAA playoffs.

What would bode well for the Profs is if RMU finishes better than 7th in the NEC.  I did expect the offense to perform better than they did.  I can't recall the last shutout.  Might be in the 80's.

gordonmann

I think some of the disappointment may stem from the idea that the bar was set higher for D3 teams when UW-La Crosse beat scholarship D-IAA South Dakota State.

Lax is ranked lower than Rowan and Robert Morris (393) is ranked lower than SDSU (210) by the Massey Index.

For what it's worth, I don't read too much into the RMU score.  I had Rowan third on my Top 25 ballot before Saturday and third on my ballot after it, too.

I know you're aware of this, but for all others out there, I do have to mention that non scholarship schools do get invited into the playoffs - namely, the Patriot League. (I'm a Lehigh Alum, so I had to sneak that in there  ;)

Of course, if the Patriot League schools keep losing to Albany and Monmouth, I don't know how long the league will stay non-scholarship!!

PBR...

i caught a glimpse of rowans off. stats (or lack there of i think...) jt what were rowans final off. stats?  if they are what i think i saw i cant believe orhiel and co. couldnt move that ball a least a little bit against rmu....rowan is too powerful offensively not to have some positive yardage and plays

JT

Two Prof punt muffs/fumbles led to two easy RMU scores.
