This is a big change from what I thought just a week ago....I really thought Cortland would lose to both Rowan and Ithaca, but suddenly this week after what went on during the weekend, I've completely changed my tune...

profs_fan

My mother is going to be 85 in January.  She had been listening to Prof f-ball for a long time on an old one speaker plug in radio.  For the last several years on an old Sony boom box with a manual tuner.  I taped the tuner to 89.7 a few years back because she couldn't read the turner anymore.  It gave out. She now has a newer sony stero boom box with both a cassette and CD and a digital tuner.  Now she never changes the station.

Mom told me last week that the Prof's were playing like the Eagles but winning more games. (She is also an Eagles fan)  She also knew that the Prof's made it to the final four 2 of the past three years.  She also knew the Prof's were in the Stagg bowl 5 times.  I have been giving her the brackets of the D3 playoffs for many years.  She records the scores in the brackets from the Sunday Courier Post sports section.   I hope I still have the facilities and passion to be a Profs fan when I am 85.

I call her from the Prof's games when I am all over the country and she knows the score and knows about the fumbles, interceptions, long pass plays, long runs and dumb penalties.  She wears either an old GSC tee shirt or old GSC zippered sweat shirt when it gets chilly during game time.

Mom has never said anything questioning the coaches, players or choice of play calling at GSC or Rowan.  Don't mention TO in front of her.  She will chase you out of the house.

Mom grew up through the depression.  She is the most even tempered and balanced person I know. Her prized possession is a picture of 4 generations of females.  Mom, my sister, my sister's daughter and a great grand daughter.  Hopefully I can get my three daughters and grand daughter together for another 4 generation picture.

Mom would probable get upset with some of the posts herein.  She might want to tongue lash a few of the off the wall posts.

Coaches coach, players play, officials officiate and fans cheer and support their team no matter what.

During the last 15-20 years the Prof's have had much more success than any pro football team.  The young men that play for the Prof's and other D3 schools put their bodies at risk for our support and for their love of the game.  I'm sure our coaches coach for the same reasons the players play.

Hopefully the BEAST has another TOP OF THEIR GAME performance left in their tank and it plays out Saturday.

(IMO, Rowan administration needs to do major work on the football stadium.  Hardware from the boards and iron work needs to be replaced every year.  Nuts and bolts can be found under the stands every week. What really needs to be done is to replace the wood boards with metal or to cap them with metal.  Rest rooms for women are totally inadaquate.
With the major investment of the new turf, the rest of the stadium needs upgrades.  The use of spot-a-pots for homecoming was a major problem for women.  Permanent restrooms need to be constructed inside the stadium fences.  My wife, two daughters with two friends from UD, grand daughter and son in law left at  half time because of the condition of the women's room and the spot a pots.)

Thank you Bill Plaschke. It's nice your mother loves the Profs so much. I like sports fans that think critically about their team and engage in discussion thereby, for fun, like on a football discussion board. I'm sorry, but does anyone else look around in confusion after reading a post like this? What are you trying to elicit? What does growing up in the depression have to do with anything besides over-romanticization of a situtation that is not that uncommon? My grandmother watches every damn Bills game. But she criticizes the players and coaches (like any real fan), so I guess she's a bad person, even though (gasp!) she grew up in the depression, which apparently is both uncommon and helpful to being a TRUE profs fan.

Fans cheer for their team no matter what. They don't support every move their team makes. That's just not what being a sports fan is about. If you just wanted to post about how big a profs fan your mother is, fine. But don't use her to come down the mountain about what's ok to say and what isn't:

Sorry if that was too off the wall.

From what I hear, you're right about the stadium, though.

I hear Max's Karma falling into the celler again...

I agree with Max to a certain extent but I do like the story a lot too.

But if I did see his mom...I'd be sure to scream...

TO TO TO TO TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True. Disclaimer: Profsfan, I am in no way making fun of your Mom. She truly seems like a great person that leads an interesting life.

I'm making fun of you hardcore with that post, and I'm doing a really excellent job of it too.

I just love how all of this.... ALL OF THIS... comes after a Rowan loss and one Rowan fan bitching about the refs. All the sudden all Rowan fans are only about the love of the game. The last few pages of posts have been truly laughable.

gobombers

I see MaxPower's karma dropping like a lead balloon after that one.

2 things:

First to the Profs posters.  The sky is not falling, you can still make the playoffs.  Jeesh, you'd think the Profs were 1-7 this year.

Second, and I can't believe I am saying this, never in my mind did I think CORTLAND fans would be the most sane people on the NJAC board.  Heck, the first Cortland posters talked about hitting their kids and such!  They've come a loooooong way!  Looks like the better their team gets, the more gracious they become!

Does anyone else get the feeling that joseqviper and maxpower are into manlove?

Does that make you nervous Rowanlb92?  Are you just pointing it out so no one else will notice your homosexuality?  Or, is this the adult equivalent of not understanding an argument and firing back with "I know you are but what am I?"

Besides, if looking at Fred Sanford makes you gay, then I am gay. That show was awesome.

I know some HS JV teams that can beat Curry:

No you don't.

Don Bosco Catholic High School, Mahwah NJ

Maybe if you spent less time scouting JV High School Football teams in NJ you'd actually update your site and post something about the Montclair game.

P.S. The Coach at Don Bosco called, he doesn't want you hanging around his players.  Something about a registry and being a certain number of yards from a school campus.  I didn't get all the details....

realistic

just out of curiosity...have you seen either Curry or the Bosco JV's play?  Seriously?

JT

I've seen the Bosco JV.  With all the D1-A talent they have, it would certainly be competative.  Curry doesn't play well outside their conference.  I don't think they can beat anyone in the top 25.

It was mostly a joke, but the Bosco varsity would beat them.

realistic

Obviously....

I can put an argument up that Oak Hill Academy could beat any D-III basketball team too.  The reason I brought it up is you were banking on jose not knowing that Bosco is a PREP school that recruits players and gives scholarchips and at least half the kids go on to play D-I football.

Besides, right now Bosco's Varsity would probably beat Rowan too.

JT

I wouldn't have thrown out the joke w/o having a team in mind.  Jose is just another Ithaca know-it-all.

There are a lot of us that know it all.

I don't think I know it all.  I do think I know more than you.

Here's something else I know.  What the National Championship Trophy looks like.  Come by the South Hill, I will show you sometime.  I know you can't see them in Rowan's trophy case.
