Wow I just looked at Rutgers schedule.  They should be undefeated again going into West Virginia and highly ranked.  What a creampuff schedule they have this year.  8 home games, too.  Schiano has Rutgers set up to make a BIG run this year at the BCS.

Thinking that they can have a better BCS score going undefeated against this schedule than risking a loss in a season with a higher "point potential"?

phil

...the schedule was made before anyone at Rutgers knew what the initials "BCS" stood for!

rams,

Well I was going to get fired up by questioning why the MSU admissions department needs to "find room" for a D1 transplant. Where have we heard that one before? Are we insinuating that his academic credentials didn't make a move up to DIII football a sure thing? Tsk, tsk, tsk....

And no knock towards Ralph (a fellow Texan), but Rutgers does not think in terms of BCS games and point potentials — they spent too many years just trying to think in terms of avoiding embarrassment! I'm sure their schedule will get stronger in the next year or two. In the meantime I'm still enjoying the bragging rights here in the Lone Star state. Last season K-State beat Texas and Rutgers beat K-State in a game where they could have named their score.

I guess that I was giving Rutgers too much credit, too early.

New Jersey has sent players all over the country.  Keeping NJ kids home will be a big help to their football fortunes.

JT,

For the record, Cortland did attend the 2006 NJAC Media Day. We did not attend the 2005 Media Day. Cortland, Buffalo St. and Western Conn. St. will be at next year's Media Day along with new members Brockport and Morrisville.

I understand the feeling that all the schools should be involved, but as John mentioned, it's a long day for us (3 1/2-hour drive each way - and even longer for Buffalo St., which has to travel the day before), with very little benefit. While you and Derek, and maybe one or two other reporters, end up asking our coach questions, for the most part we don't end up doing very much. I think only Derek actually talked to the three players we brought in 2006. I felt bad for those players, who all traveled in from Long Island to basically eat lunch.

We had a similar problem in the late 1990s in New York - for a few years there was an Upstate New York media day either in Syracuse or Rochester. It was tough on schools such as Union and RPI to attend, with little media attention paid to them. The event was eventually canceled, most likely due to lack of media attendance.

Kean really is that good!  Between Roque (QB), Dukes (WR), B. Williams (WR), and Chunn (RB); KU probally has the best skill players in the NJAC.  The Oline is still a question mark, but with the speed that Kean plays with, the Oline doesn't need to make dominating blocks.  As far as the defense goes, you know that any team coached by Garrett will have a sound scheme and bring the wood!  Replacing Kiett (CB) and Kendle (OLB) will be tough, but the youthful Kean staff has been recruiting harder than any other team in the NJAC over last 4 years.  This season marks the 1st senior class of Garrett and company recruits.  Kean is ready to show that last year was not a fluke and the Cougars are for real!

Phil,

You are assuming that Coach G. would do something underhanded? I may not always agree with the coach, but he is a stand-up guy. He threw a great QB off the team that refused to go to classes. He tried to get him on the right path in the spring and summer and when he failed he said good bye, and the WR that beat you guys in OT was kicked off the team for various reasons and then he winds up at Kean. We paid a price for a while. Even Teddy seems to be better though the program sufferred. If this D1 kid is real and can make the minimum GPA why not give him a chance. You know this is done, and I think that there are very few programs that can cast the first stone, including the Princeton of D3 located in Ewing.

Tiger looked pretty good. You gotta love a guy with a killer instinct.

It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

No, no, no... I didn't mean underhanded. All teams get there share of special admissions. Only pointing out that it would be nice to hear of a better reason for transferring than the probable academic casualty.

I was nice to see Tiger work for it down the stretch. Els should have converted a couple more putts along the way to put some real pressure on. I was wondering how Tiger was doing with his trademark red shirt and black pants in the 102° heat all day! Phew.

The offense is only as good as the offensive line. Much like in baseball, you're only as good as your next day's pitcher.

So true... This is my first post in this forum.
I'm an MSU fan, and we are looking forward to another good year from  the Red Hawk coaches and players
